I had read many reviews about the ART Tube MP V3 mic preamp prior to my purchase. Most of them were positive. I ordered my V3 and have been extremely pleased. This thing is a monster in the box. I hooked it up and could not believe the gain I got out of an economical condenser mic. I have used it on one of my guitars as well and have found a night and day difference every time I use it. The presets are a fast and true to their labels. Simply said in my opinion there is not a better mic preamp on the market anywhere that is even remotely in this price range. Those on a budget, you cannot, I repeat CANNOT GO WRONG. One negative review I had read was that it is noisy. I have not found this to be true for me. Most of my applications are home recording studio based and mostly require whisper quiet equipment. I have found that when the V3 is properly set.....WOW! Crystal clear HUGE FAT sound.

I bought this unit a month ago and it really helps boost the signal for vocals and acoustic guitar. Haven't used it a ton, but it seems to warm up the tones and boost the signal so far. The only problem I have is the VU meter does not work. It would be nice if it did, but I don't think I'll request a replacement because it doesn't seem to affect the sound coming out of it and I know what a hassle it is returning equipment to MF. You get what you pay for I suppose.

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp:
I bought this little preamp not long before I submitted this review. I was looking for an inexpensive tube preamp that let me control a little more than just the volume. I found the V3, bought it and I like it very much. It's good for recording, especially when you don't have anything to put your Mics through before going into your recording interface. It's got all of your basic needs such as Phantom power, phase reverse and +20db gain switch. The voicing function is nice to have and most other preamps in this price bracket don't have that.
A common issue I read about in these reviews was it's too noisy. It's not noisy at all if you know how to use the thing. The +20db switch needs to be off. If it's on, it will generate noise just like anything else would when the gain is cranked. Put the Output at 12:00 and you are able to turn the input all the way up without noise. Turn the Output up to much and a slight noise will start to become audible. I think it's worth having especially if you record with any Mic going straight into your interface. It adds a bit of warmth to the Mic.
Comments about ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp:
I bought this to use as a direct box with my acoustic guitar when playing through house systems at Church and "Open Mic" venues but have added this as a preamp to my bass rig to warm up and fatten my tone. The difference is amazing and I now take it wherever I go. Based upon my experience, I am looking to procure the rack mount version that includes a compressor and parametric equalizer and make it a key part of my new rig!
For what it is, it offers quite a bit. very flexible. has different settings to shape the tone however you want. Controls are very intuitive.
Built very sturdy. The only complaint I have is that the AC adapter seemed to break a little too easily when it was dropped. Got a new one from an electronic parts store and I am back in business.
Comments about ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp:
For the most part, I've had good luck with Art's rack units, but these are so bad I can't believe they are from the same company! Mine worked 5 months and started making a loud hissing sound. Shipped it to Art, warranty repair done. Used it MAYBE 4 times, then put it away for a few years. Please note: It was stored in a hard case, wrapped in bubble wrap. A week ago I thought I'd use it for some guitar tracks..Guess what?..The light is on but nobody's home. It died in ideal storage! I tried another tube..nothing. This morning it went in the trash! I can't believe Art still offers these..total junk. Ordering an M Audio pre. today! This Art unit has too many BAD reviews. It's a shame, really.
Comments about ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp:
Pretty good for a musician on a budget.I miced my Vox VT20 with this and it sounds pretty warm through my headphones and when I played the recordings back through my stereo. It works well with acoustic too and the presets come in handy.Haven't tried vocals yet or direct input with bass though. The one I have is not noisy at all.I didn't even have to do any noise reduction after recording tracks.I wish this thing had a power switch though.Overall a very good buy.
Comments about ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp:
Right out of the box this unit generates it's own noise with nothing connected to it. The meter jumps erratically, and when I listen to the output it's random static. I put it back in the box, and wonder if anyone else had same problem?
Comments about ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp:
I have owned this for around 5 months and it's still ticking. I've recorded many many takes with this thing with instruments ranging from voice, latin guitar and various hand-percussion. Voicing switch gives plenty of different types of sound from my mic. I also use the TS/TRS input as well for boosting my guitar signal into my computer. It's built very well and has been left on for weeks without it copping out.
Comments about ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp:
The product works great in ' trained ' hands. The signal is clean and very usable.. the EQ selection on the unit is quite nice actually, whole lot of intresting tonalities at begin with. What it misses is a High Pass Filter.Cheers.

I purchased one last week and put it in service last night and just love it. I use it as a driver between my home theater amp and my Mac tube mono-block into a JBL 15" sub. I just love the extra warmth it gives my sub.
