At2035 For Studio Recording - Great mic for the price!

Features:

I like the db cut and 80z high filter...gives me lots of versatility. The warmth of the mic gives fullnes in the upper vocal register without the scratchiness...keeps the upper register full. Likewise, the lower vocal register is full without the "boom" effect. The mids are prevelant but without being shrill or noticeably thin, characteristics so often associated with mids. The sound is dynamic with just the right amount of trim at the top and the bottom.

Quality:

I've only had the mic about a week, but it appears to be a quality component...It's heavy enough for its size! But, I've had no problems with it staying adjusted on the mic stand.

Value:

I doubt I will find a better mic for my needs anywhere near this price...great value.

Overall:

For the price, verstility and vocal warmth the mic gives me, I couldn't be happier! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for excellent quality at a reasonable price. Loving it!

AT2035 Microphone

Features:

I bought this to replace an existing large diaphragm condenser microphone, that has good reviews.  It will be used mainly for vocals in my home recording studio.  After testing the AT2035 with both a male and female voice, and a recording session with a male singer, there is no contest, the AT2035 wins.  It has a much better and flatter frequency response.

Quality:
Value:

Good value for how well the mic performs.

Overall:

Totally satisfied with the purchase.  Based on initial tests and usage, I would buy it again, and may buy a second for my studio.

review of AT-2035 large diaphram cardioid condenser mic

| Review By: William Barlak | 2 months, 1 week ago

Features:

group is two guitars, bass and drums with three vocals.  we sit in room in my house and use an old yamaha aw4416 project box to record the vocal rehearsals.  (no live drums during vocal rehearsals; use AR-18).  turns out using sm58's to record the vocals is so lame.  I had an old AT-3035 (now discontinued) we tried out on the lead singer.  ab fab.  went ahead and bought two AT-2035's (the 3035 replacement, I guess) to mic the rest of the singers.  sounds great.  the mics are so sensitive that when the windows are open, they pick up the birds singing outside and conversations of neighbors walking down the street!  No problem with that, we're just recording rehearsals anyway.  very solid mic.  played the vocal rehearsals (including guitar, bass, and AR-18 tracks) for recording engineer buddy who said the quality of the vocal recording, excluding the bird sounds, was as good as any demo he has heard.   seems the only diff between the old 3035 and the new 2035 is the change in color from silver to black, and the fact that the 2035's are made in Taiwan instead of Japan.  now, liked the mics so much I bought a third so that the wife's all-girl vocal quartet can use them when they rehearse.  guess whose idea that was.

2035's are so sensitive, I would never use them for live sound.  but for home recording, they are really good.

Quality:

so far so good.  as good as the old AT-3035 that I've had for ten years.

Value:

Looked all over the net and the AT-2035 was the best value I found.  Since I already had one AT-3035, it wasn't much of a gamble.

Overall:

all in all, for home recording, you can't beat it for the money.

overhead mic for drums

| Review By: Great-FDkJV | 8 months, 2 weeks ago

Features:

Don't use the 10dB pad, but it could become useful.

Would have been nice to be a little more clear of "front and back" for the mics, but they're clean and professional looking and it only takes a little bit to figure out which direction they should face.

Quality:

They're HEAVY mics!  Make sure you don't have lousy stands for them, and the stands have a sturdy base.  If you have to put them out a ways on an arm, better make sure you have something to hold down the mic stand with.

Value:
Overall:

Put them in a drum cage as overhead mics at my church.  It sounds like you're standing next to the cymbals instead of them being in a cage and muffled.  Totally worth the money.

Granted, we went from having some SM58s on the cymbals (NEVER do that) to these guys so...

We have a decent drum mic set on the toms.  You can turn all the tom mics off and can't tell much of a difference between the drum mics and these as overheads.  Much more sensitive than dynamic mics, tons of headroom, very accurate reproduction of what you're hearing... by my ears anyways.

The source range on this thing is perfect.  Equally suitable for live and studio applications.  I have tried many mics in this price range and this is the only one that stays tame with a high gain setting.  This mic finally made me stop second guessing  my pro-channel preamp and has made 1/3 of my mic locker obsolete.
