This is an interesting microphone, it's kind of half way between a real tube mic and a non-tube mic. The tube that this mic comes with is a teeeeeeny tiny non-labeled thing, internally wired. Yes technically it is a tube mic- but lets say you ever want to change out the tube because it's old... oh wait- YOU CANT! Because it's permanently installed. Audio-Technica has nothing to say about this. I really have to wonder how useful this thing will be when the tube gets old and flat sounding...That said, right now it does sound very good- very clear and detailed, and its got that warm "tubiness" that you can't get from a regular mic (because it IS technically a tube mic), and the easy setup is pretty handy. Also it comes with a good shockmount and the quality is sturdy overall. So, would I buy another one? Probably not. But I'm certainly not about to get rid of the one I have. It's a nice "go to" mic for a quick and easy session.
I got this At3060 condenser for mostly vocal work. I am more than impressed by the sound quality with singing as well as other instruments. I wasn't expecting to use this mic for anything else but now I mic my acoustic guitar and piano with it. Great value and durability.
The AT3060 is an easy to use, great sounding tube mic without the high price. Uses standard 48v phantom power (no dedicated power supply and special cable needed). Clear, detailed Audio-Technica sound with the added warmth of the tube! Excellent value for a true "pro" mic.
