Seriously, those are crazy. I'm actually looking for a replacement and I'm having a hard time. I thought I could upgrade, but I don't know with what. I put them against AKG K271MKII/K181DJ, Shure SRH240/SHR440, Seinnheiser HD25/HD380, some Roland, some Sony and... the ATH-M30 beats them all. And sometimes easily. Great balance between low-mid-high. Nothing aggressive, all smooth clear great sounding response. Really comfortable. I can keep them on for hours and not get tired of it. They've been under rain, snow, cold, sun and beer and they still rock.
I guess I'll stick with those and be happy.
If you don't know what headphones to get, this is a safe choice. For the price, there's NO WAY you can go wrong.

Well, seeing as I got these free with something else I ordered on here, I can't say that I really lost too much. I've used these a few times only when I've absolutely needed a pair of headphones and all I can say is that they in no way accurately reproduce the sounds they are supposed to. Pretty much the only intelligble frequencies are stuff in the midrange; little to no high end and only very boxy bass. And, for the price, they really aren't that great a value. Dish out a little over one hundred bucks and you can have a great set of headphones (the Sennheiser HD 280). My suggestion: if you're trying to find a good set of studio phones, look elsewhere.

These headphones have been a great back up and spare pair for my home studio and for just listening to music in general. Lasted me over two years, the material is finally wearing away but all else is functioning great. Only con is I have done some small dj gigs and at times the clarity and volume were not sufficient for the loud ambient music..

Frequencies are clear. Bass is perfect...just remember they're monitors, not bass boosting thumpers.
What I can tell you is that I hear what was wrong with old mixes (I added too much bass) I made with Carvin monitors. I didn't know at the time the mixes were bad unless I took them out to the car stereo. Now, these headphones show what I did wrong.
You also can't go wrong with the price.

Sounds very good, everything is clear, no frequencies seem uneven. Lightweight, not causing fatigue. Great for Tracking and Mixing or just enjoyment while listening to your favorite music. I actually recommend these over the over-Hyped SENNHEISER Headphone Model that sells for twice as much, which I bought here but later sold because Bass freqeuncies were not intellegable enough to mix with. These AudioTechnias are far better than the Sennheiser.

I wanted a cheap but nice sounding pair of headphones with decent build quality. This is it. I have no experience in things audio-related, but...
1) they sound amazing to me
2) the chord looks extremely durable
also some pro's for me that might annoy others:
3) they are very comfortable right up to the 4-5 hour mark when they become slightly painful
4) they reduce outside noises but not enough to drown out everything (if your friend tries to communicate, you will hear them but won't be able to understand what they're saying)
I think you should get these if you're looking for a rich, balanced sound combined with above average construction (that chord looks reinforced and the padding of the band is nice) FOR HOME USE.
These are not portable, they won't be very good if you have to use them more than 4-5 hours a day, and they won't provide a perfectly quiet environment.
I love them for my purposes.
