These headphones are really amazing. I'll be fully honest with you though. As far as recording there not the best because there not a flat response headphone. they have more bass than what you'll hear on a mix through other speakers. I read as many reviews as i could before getting these and let me tell you all the negitive reviews people have been throwing out on the interweb are either due to the reviewers having no clue what there talking about or they just got a random bum pair. "I got these and there super uncomfortable and dig into my 'normal sized' head". Yeah who's to say your head is normal sized when hundreds of other people didn't have the same problem? i'm just saying if your a big electronic music fan or you dj then BUY THESE! the sound is crisp and the lows are insane. I'm still working through the 100 or so hr burn in time on mine so i'm expecting them to get even better. So don't believe the negitive nancys. these cans are crazy nice and cheap for the quality.
The gold plated plug is nice, the screw on 1/4 plug is nice and pro status, it swivles more than anyone will ever need (except maybe djs). Cord's not long but plenty long for anything but recording in a studio.
Sturdy! and they don't weigh a billion pounds like so many say.
Not crazy expensive esp if you shop around. if you want a sick pair of phones to listen to your electro then throw down 140 bucks for these. it's worth it.

I've owned plenty of A-T gear; these cans are my least favorite. Not particularly comfortable (they clamp my ears), and they just sound clogged and dull to me. The coiled cord is also a headache. My Sony 7506's sound much better, even though the build quality of the Sony's is not nearly as nice. I basically have set the M50's aside and will probably unload them. My studio phones are A-T ATH-A900 studio monitors. The A900's look, sound, and feel great!!! A different world from the ATH-M50's. So, check those out, or forget about clunky cans and get Atrios in-ear monitors instead.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones:
Read a LOT of positive comments on numerous websites regarding these headphones. Took a chance without actually using a set and ordered them for a very good price from Musicians Friend. The phones are very comfy and I don't think anyone would have a problem wearing them for an extended period of time. They also work pretty well at reducing extraneous noise. The BEST thing about these phones is the sound quality ... smooth and warm, very balanced across the spectrum and I believe a very true, flat response. And as they continue to be "burned in" I am noticing the sound quality just getting better and better. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones:
For the money, these have got to be the best headphones. They trash beats studios in terms of sound quality. While these headphones don't exactly have a flat response, they're quite near it. There's just a slight boost in the bass.
The headphones look real nice and feel very durable. The ear pieces and swivel around in most directions, which is a cool feature. The best part about these guys is the price. I would buy again.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones:
These were an upgrade from a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro (which are a 4 star headphone IMO). These do not enhance the bass like the HD280s did, and are ideally flat on the mids/highs. After several hours of listening and tracking a complete song with them, I am VERY pleased with what fifty more dollars over the HD280s got me.
Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones:
They do what they are supposed to do
Not much to talk about. the earcups are soft and comfortable
Block outside sound pretty well. Seem to be built well
Not too expensive or I wouldn't have bought them
Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones:
Overall, pretty good headphone for the price, surely you wont be disappointed.
Nice feeling jack. Headphones, I don't know not too many features.
So, after trying many different types of headphones, these are quite nice. They are very detailed and people say after the "burn-in" they'll sound nicer. I can say after listening to them for an hour you certainly get more used to them and start liking them more.
First Impressions were that the bass was good volume but seemed a little muddy and not detailed. Which why some people are complaining that they are bass heavy when they most certainly aren't in my opinion. The mids are really nice. The highs seem to shrill a bit. It's all preferance. Though they do really sound nice.
For example for people coming from Senn HD280's you'll definately love these more.
They feel decently comfy, but we'll have to see.
The price could be better, but they are worth their money.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones:
Avoid these headphones. In just over a year 3 sets all are bad. Not one of them sounds the same as the others. They might as well be 3 different brands of headphones.
The coiled cord is way too short. You'll need an extension cable sitting two feet away from where your plugged into. There is only a couple of feet of straight cord coming from the headphones and then it coils almost all the way to the end. It makes the cord too short to be used without an extension cable.
I bought three pairs of these just over a year ago because, I wanted everybody in the band to be hearing the same thing. And they were great at first. We do a lot of late night apartment headphone practicing. Now one set is louder then the others, one set has a lack of low end compared to the others. The other night my lead singer was complaining that he couldn't here our keyboard player, and in my phones it was like a piano lounge I couldn't hear anything but the keyboard. And the third set sounds muddy, like theirs a blanket over them.
When after just over a year multiple sets sound so vastly different from each other. That's what I call an epic fail.

awesome headphones!
These things sound epic! so much clarity and depth which really adds to your mixes. They are pretty bass heavy so i've adjusted to backing off the bass a little in mixes.
Really solid feel. They're very snug and comfortable, i can go hours of mixing without having to take them off.
great for the money!
Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones:
I've been a Senheiser & Beyer phones guy since the 70's. I wanted a closed back phone for live sound use, that was more portable and cheaper than HD580's. I wasn't expecting to be so impressed with these. These phones sound amazing. Considering the price, they're a steal.
