Audio-Technica

Very affordable and very good.

The Audio-Technica ATW-251 Freeway VHF Headworn Wireless System is designed to provide reliable performance, easy setup and clear, natural sound quality. The Freeway Wireless Microphone System includes the ATW-R250 receiver, the ATW-T201 body-pack transmitter, and the PRO 8HEcW hands free microphone. A novel dipole antenna system on the receiver improves operation by providing a ground element in addition to the usual signal element.

ATW-R250 receiver

The ATW-R250 receiver includes a space-saving switching power supply that automatically adapts to changes in mains voltage. Unlike bulky linear power supplies, this switching power supply is lightweight and compact; it uses only a single outlet space.

ATW-T201 UniPak body-pack transmitter

The versatile ATW-T201 UniPak body-pack transmitter has both a high-impedance input for instruments, and a low-impedance input with bias connection for use with dynamic and electret condenser microphones. The ATW-T201 uses internal 9-volt batteries and has an Off/Standby/On switch, input Trim (level) adjustment, and battery-save switch.

PRO 8HEcW headworn microphone

Offering highly intelligible individual voice reproduction, the comfortable, lightweight PRO 8HEcW headworn microphone is ideal for guitarists, keyboard players, drummers and others who need the use of their hands during performance. Its low-visibility headband and cushioned support pads provide a stable, comfortable fit. Designed for professional quality vocal pickup with hands free operation, the PRO 8HEcW features a pivot-mounted flexible mic boom that descends from either the left or right side. Terminated with a locking 4-pin connector for the Audio Technica A-T UniPak body-pack wireless transmitters. The PRO 8HEcW has a 55" (1.4 m) cable and includes a windscreen.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

So far... So good!

Features:

Seems tough, and the standby/off switch is great. Battery power lasts for a while..

Quality:

So far so good... through a board you can adjust the lows up and trim it just right with the adjustment in the battery compartment.

Value:

Great for the money, so far I'm lovin it. I'm a drummer... Getting the boom stand out of my face and out of striking range of my sticks has been awesome.

Overall:

Haven't noticed any overload, if you have it adjusted right. Also doesn't seem to have any problems just picking up my vocals and not catching the drums. I'm loving the freedom of movement, sound is just fine.... Portable and easy to use. Great for the price.

Great Buy

Features:

I have been using this system for close to a year now with no problems. It is easy on batteries and has an impressive range for a system this cheap. The mic has great sound and can be EQed to your liking without having to worry about feed back. I can honestly say that the sound quality is just as good as my SM 58 hand held mics. Has never let me down. Just a tip for those interested in buying this. Don't turn the power off on the transmitter in the middle of a show. It will cause a heck of a lot of static to be blasted at everyone in the place. The transmitter has a standby feature in the center possition. The battery life is great also. I use one battery for a four hour show and a 5 hour practice session before it started fading.

Quality:

No issues with wuality here. seems to be built well. After numerous shows, parties and practices this thing has never let me down.

Value:

Can't beat the value of this unit. There is nothing even close to this price that compares. To get something better you would have to spend 4 times as much money.

Overall:

If you're a singing musician on a budget this is the mic for you. Hands down one of the best deals on this site

DOA after two uses

This unit seemed like a good value and had two glowing reviews. Unfortunately the unit only lasted for two uses. On the third use the unit would not power up and was dead and is now being returned. While the unit worked I must agree that it sounded excellent. The comparison to the Beta 58 is quite true. Unfortunately, I need something that isn't just going to die so I will have to investigate something else.

I've been down the road with a lot of headset mics in the past and I have to give this thing the best rating of any that I've ever used before. My first was a Shure SM10 and my last was an AKG C410 that I bought 16 years ago and it finally just gave out on me. Some of you may look at the frequency response of the Pro 8HE mic and instantly think it's a downfall. Actually, that couldn't be further from the truth, this is perfect for a headset. The only thing you may possibly have to do with this mic is roll back the 1K range on the EQ and bump up the low and high end just a little. Doing so makes this thing sound every bit as good as an AKG condenser that sports a full 20 Hz to 20 KHz frequency response. This is also the most comfortable and stable headset I've ever worn. As for the wireless system, I can't find one thing to complain about. It's VHF, so it's far more reliable than UHF systems that are choked by FCC power restrictions and their erratic sensitivity to even minor obstructions (such as your body between the transmitter and receiver). The dipole antenna system beats diversity systems hands-down because you have a signal antenna and a ground plane antenna. This makes it real easy to tweak the performance and block interference just by adjusting the position of the antennas. The transmitter has a trim pot inside of the battery cover so you can adjust the gain of the mic and eliminate clipping the preamp in the transmitter. And it also sports a transmission power switch so you can get more life out of your batteries. If you never leave the stage, switch the thing down to low power and your batteries will last twice as long. But if you often leave the stage, you'll want to leave the transmitter set on its high power setting. All in all, you can't beat this package. I am thoroughly amazed at the bang for the buck you get out of this package. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!
