OVERVIEW

Unobtrusive clip-on mic for brasswinds and percussion!

The Audio-Technica PRO 35 clip-on microphone is designed for sax, brass, toms, and percussion. The PRO35 is a cardioid condenser mic that excels in high-SPL (sound pressure level) applications and is ideal for active stage performances. Its extended frequency response captures subtle nuances of the performance. The included UniMount clip permits accurate positioning and provides shock resistance while protecting the element. The microphone's cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of sounds from the sides and rear, improving isolation of the desired sound source.

The A-T PRO 35 includes the AT8538 power module, which accepts the PRO 35's locking cable connector and terminates to an XLR male connector for a wired connection to a mixing console etc.

(If you're looking for a wireless solution, the A-T PRO 35cW terminates to a 4-pin connector for use with A-T UniPak bodypack wireless transmitters.)

Requires phantom power.

nice... but

By david manson

from Florida

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

This is a good horn mic, but the term "power module" is misleading. This setup requires phantom power to operate. The "power module" with the unit, is really a voltage converter. If you gig, count on problems getting power from house soundboards OR buy a phantom power supply unit (another thing to lug around and plug in). For a little more, you might be able to buy the AT8531 (a real power module), but for that much total - you would be better off looking at other horn mics.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

Whenever you need a great mic for an unusual situation, consider this unit. I have used this for picking up bass fiddles, saxophones and banjos for over 2 years and have found that this is superior to many other methods of micing instruments. You must set the EQ for each instrument to achieve the tone that you want but this is normal for any competent sound engineer. As with any condenser mic, speaker placement is critical to avoid feedback. This mic is a bit "hot" so be careful when setting the gain to prevent distortion. The cable is a bit thin and care should be taken to prevent damage to the wire. If the connector is left on the floor there is a possibility of pulling the wire from the capsule. In the more than 2 years I have used this mic I have never had a problem with the unit.

good mic for tenor sax

By Danieljoffe

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I'm using this for tenor sax in a big band. It sounds quite good. It's a little bright, and on the bell mounting position, there's a bit of key noise pickup, but it's very clean, so a little EQ makes things right. It's pretty directional, so you can put a good amount of gain in before feedback. Included carrying bag makes for nice storage and protection, and is slim enough to stow everything in my case.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I have used this for years and overall I love it. However, the jack is so big in comparison to the wire that the wire inside the insulation breaks often right near the jack. I have had to have it fixed fairly often by clipping the wire a little shorter each time. Suggestions? Install a clip on the jack so it can be clipped to pants or a back pocket or something - instead of just hanging onto the floor or bunched up in a pocket. The wires break very easily.

    Very good, so far

    By Wizard-fjKq_

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I just took delivery of this mic today - Ordered on Sunday, delivered on Wednesday - and so far it seems to be a very good one (clear sound with lots of depth), except for the very short cable attached to it. Plan to buy an extension cable unless you're going to be standing within arms length of the PA head.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

It is definitively perfect for my sax but versatile enough to use for congas and bongos. This microphone is amazing. It handle a well balance range of frequencies and delivers a powerful gain. Just be extra careful with the attached thin and fragile cable that comes out of it. You will regret being too rough with it.

I have used the PRO35 for five years now. I've played with it in both large and small venue with great results.
I have the hard wired and the cordless. Both sound great. Sound is a little thin on the palm keys on my Soprano. I highly recommend this mic.

Thanks for the fast shipping! Ordered days before a gig to open up for The Fabulous Thunderbirds, knowing that they wouldn't make it in time. But I was wrong! They came the morning of the gig. The 4 horns were free to move around the stage and rock the house! Thanks again MF, you came through again for me!

              Bell mic for Sax

              By Steven Brewster

              from Montana

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

I have been wanting a bell mounted Sax microphone for years (DECADES) but thought they would be much more expensive to get a good one. Didn't want to buy one on the web for fear the owner had a problem with it and wanted to dump it on someone else. Being able to purchase this one for under $100 from a dealer was awsome. It is exactly like new and works great. Thanks for providing your service.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 35 Cardioid Condenser Clip-On Instrument Microphone:

Great value for the price vs other costly ones I've seen. Light weight, has cable stays to secure mic cord. Fits in trumpet bell even with harmon mute in- Would NOT recommend for un-muted horn as it tends to distort but I wanted it only for muted horn and for the price can't be beat. With only 6 ft XLR cable, need something like my pre-amp to plug in to as most likely you will be more than 6ft from PA on stage.

Clips on and works well with my tenor and soprano saxes. I use the XLR adapter connection to my floor pedal mixer when playing live. I will later get the AT belt pack transmitter and receiver for wireless. But I don't move around much on stage so wired is fine. Previously (and still do sometimes) use a dynamic Beta 58 so resetting the eq and levels for the AT Pro 35 is still a work in progress. But I think the AT Pro 35 has good dynamic range and sounds a bit more crisp. Helps me compete with guitars in groups when not out doing my solo act. Very nice mic for the money.
