Comments about Avid Eleven Rack Guitar Multi Effects Processor and Pro Tools:

The Eleven rack is a truly great sounding modeler, far better than any I've used. It destroys anything POD related, and in my opinion sounds truer in its tone than the Axe-FX series. That being said, know what you are buying. Do you just want great tone, live in an apartment, and can't afford a full stack? Then this is for you. Live in an apartment, want good tones, and also ridiculous amounts of vertsatility/effects? Get an Axe-FX. Want great tone, have your own place, and play large gigs on a regular basis? get a tube amp. Equipment like the Eleven Rack have their uses, and for me it fits perfectly. I can get some insanely chunky sound from my 7-string in this guy, way chunkier than any amp or modeler I've tried. I'm confident that to get a similar tone I'd have to spend upwards of $6k on a full blown rig.

Comments about Avid Eleven Rack Guitar Multi Effects Processor and Pro Tools:

I like the Eleven rack more every day. Like all modelers the presets can sound pretty terrible. After a day or two of learning to easily navigate the ER I am getting some really great and very authentic sounds out of it. I was just looking to buy Pro Tools 11 and basically the ER for free due to price matching so it's a WIN!

Comments about Avid Eleven Rack Guitar Multi Effects Processor and Pro Tools:

Works great as a stand-alone unit. Sound quality is superior to Boss GT-100 but has nowhere near the amount of FX to choose from. The problems come when you try to use this as an audio interface to your computer.

Avid is notorious fot their paranoia in protecting their flagship Pro Tools (included). First you need to attach an included dongle to your computer and activate it. This can take a few hours. Then you have to download 10+ gigs and do the same with the Pro Tools software. Even though Pro Tools 11 is already released, you also will need to download Pro Tools 10 because the ER Gui and librarian doesn't fully work in PT 11 yet. It only allows you to change patches, not edit or create new ones (as PT10 does).

Next comes the problems with compatability. There's no support or software to interface with Sonar or other DAWS... only Pro Tools. If you want to use the unit on a different DAW, you need to just plug the ER main out to a different sound card (or unit) input and treat it as any other amp or external FX. I've gotten around this (kind of) by routing from the SPDIF out of the ER to the SPDIF in on my pci soundcard. Although this works, it creates other problems. Unless your computer is dedicated to recording use, you will need to get creative in order to hear the sound from different sources.

When using the ER as your main interface, the only monitor stereo outputs are XLR and headphone. If your monitors do not support xlr format, you need to start with converting (to 1/4 in my case).

After owning the unit for about 3 weeks now, I still haven't worked out all the kinks and have used up all my cell phone's monthly minutes talking with AVID tech support.

All in all, the pricing for the combo ER and PT make this a very attractive offer. If you're looking to upgrade to PT, this is the way to do it. Just be prepared for a steep learning curve due to the limited Pro Tools documentation, Avid's tech support not being familiar with other DAWS, etc. Oh.. let me not forget to warn about this (it can be a BIG THING)... Pro Tools 11 WILL NOT RUN VST or RTAS PLUGINS. Any existing plugins you currently own are useless unless their manufacturers upgrade them to the new AAX format PT11 now uses.

Comments about Avid Eleven Rack Guitar Multi Effects Processor and Pro Tools:

I am a professional musician who owns a nationally prominent recording studio. This is one of the best bargains any professional or home studio enthusiast could get. The effects processor is worth it's weight in gold alone for live performances. Modeling and surpassing some of the best on stage gear I've ever used touring the world. The fact that it comes with ProTools 10, which is upgradable to 11 for free... Is mind blowing.

This unit mimics some of the best amp and speaker combinations known to guitarists. Those from Marshall, Orange, Ibanez and more. Then adds all of the best effects one could ask for. Add to that a great amount of flexibility via inputs and outputs, including XLR, Midi and digital I/O, and you have one of the best units out there. Not to mention, it models all of your bass guitar needs.

The icing on the cake is a full, professional copy of Protools 11. Which costs the same alone.

If you are going to buy Protools anyways, you might as well get this combo. The effects unit alone is worth thousands or more, just in all the money you will save in all of the equipment you wont have to buy that is modeled by this compact unit. And, because it is a recording interface with XLR input, you could use it alone with your Mac or PC to record your bands next album.

Dont think about it, just buy.

Comments about Avid Eleven Rack Guitar Multi Effects Processor and Pro Tools:

I play bass in an INXS Tribute and our guitarists both have one of these awesome racks. The tones they get for each and every song are always bang on and this is no easy feat! Both of the guitarists are studio engineers and VERY knowledgable about sound and how to get it right. Our live engineer loves us because our stage sound is quiet giving him total control over the FOH mix...no more mixes with the guitars running purely on stage volume and everything else having to be built around them. I've been gigging for 30 years and played with every variation on guitar amp philosophy you can name. This thing will give you all of them and more...if it doesn't learn what you need to learn so it does
