All around this is most likely exactly what you need to start recoding and a good alternative to a recording workstation. A couple things I didnt like about it follows: I had to get an adapter for the headphone jack because my speakers had a 1/8 connecter and not a 1/4 inch connector. This was just a personal problem but I wasnt able to playback until I got the adapter so it may be something you need be aware of. The other thing that I find highly dissapointing is that you have to pay exta fo an add on to allow you to mix down your poject to mp3 format. I have used MUCH cheaper solutions that do this without charging extra for an addon. Major bummer. You can however mix down to .wav and then find a .waz to .mp3 converter on the net but I am not sure if you lose audio quality or not.

Love it! & I'm running windows Vista. Haven't had any problems running pro tools on windows, but i do see alot of reviews on here about it not functioning properly. my only "tiff" is with the not so great plug-ins that come w/ pro tools 8, & the preamp in the interface could be a tad bit better sounding. I've ran a MXL990 as well as a Rode NT1-A threw the interface with no preamp & you haver to turn the gain up quite a ways before you get a loud enough sound to record. I still miss the original Mbox sometimes.
solid metal casing. not cheap plastic. solid knobs & buttons.
Mbox always has been a great value to have pro tools.

I'm new to computer recording; but, so far, it has been rather painless. Went in to GC to look at Beringer mixers w/USB and came out with this nifty little package. It does what its supposed to do perfectly! Installing was painless and I was recording pristine clean tracks into my Reaper software the same day. I also installed the Pro-Tools software which I'm finding more of a learning curve required than with Reaper, but the results are even better. I have to get my other collaborators weaned and on Pro-Tools! Buy this package and start recording! I wonder now what took me so long!

They Say it is compatible with windows but It is not. I bought the mbox mini and it is a great piece of equipment but i have learned that it is not very compatible with windows. I never even got a track recorded other than alot of static noise. Now ive bought it and have to go out and spend 1000 dollars on a mac. Just tryin to warn every one with windows before they blow 400 dollars.

I am a long time Mbox/PT user. I finally bought the new version for Pro Tools to take advantage of all the cool new plug-ins. I know my way around Pro Tools, but you need to do a lot of praying to get the system stable in Windows 7.Cracks and pops are frequent and resolved by rebooting or switching the USB port for the interface. Running my laptop in battery power for just a few minutes made the program not recognize the interface and I had to do a complete re-install.You are not supposed to use a USB-2 drive for your external drive, but try to find that on the box, in any of the marketing materials, or on the AVID website. I spent $700 on a new laptop after researching system requirements to learn that little gem the hard way. Musicians Friend even gives you a free USB flash drive, which implies it can be used - NOT!

I don't want to work, just want to bang on this box all day. Finally a bundle that works and sounds really nice. I was looking at the saffire product line because of the reviews on their preamps but I must say the Mbox sound is better than I expected. Fairly simple to operate for a advanced beginner. Spent 2 hours in a tutorial and away I went. Preamps are fairly warm and the plug-ins(synths, drums, etc..) are better than OK.My only wish is that I can find beats that are for rock or more agressive instead of techno miami vice crap. I have to make my own which is a little like getting kicked in the groin area.Overall, I recommend it, even over what I've read about saffire.

I got the new Mbox mini because I needed a mobile interface that worked with ProTools. My main rig is is a Mackie 1640i, which is a fairly well-regarded piece of gear in terms of quality mic pres and AD/DA conversion. Though it pains me to say it, I think this unit is BETTER on both counts, and is easily in the same league as the Apogee Duet. I love it. It's also built like a tank. Buy it without hesitation, this is a great product.

The Avid Pro Tools Mbox Mini (3rd gen) has changed my life. This device is amazing. I am getting quality recordings and the price is not too bad considering the amazing results you can get with this baby. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone who wants to record guitar/sing. My only complaint- the lack of another headphone 1/4 jack. It's no problem I just went out and bought an audio splitter for 2 dollars. Anyway, I'm glad I purchased this device.
