A friend of mine was looking for a recording device that is both; inexpensive and reliable. When I saw the reviews of this one, I kind of hesitated since there was about 50% good reviews and the other ones not that great.
Anyways, All I can say is that this is a great recording device for beginners and intermediate level works.
While I was testing it, one of the things that amazed me the most is the software plugins that come with it, although they are not the best ones out there, the quality is very impressive for this kind of device that is not very expensive.
There are probably two problems I found while testing this device:
First, the Pro Tools version used in this device can't handle higher end versions, so if you recorded something on a digi rack or something fancier, you are not going to be able to open the files with this small box. Good news is that higher end versions actually can open and edit recordings from this device.
Second, nothing related to this recording device but instead the issue is Windows. There are times when it takes forever for Windows computers to process anything, then all of the sudden they just get frozen. Fortunately if you have to reboot, all your data gets backed up automatically by Pro Tools. Unlike with Mac that worked fine at all times. I own both Mac and PC and honestly PC just can't handle recording devices.
It has been about 4 months since I showed my friend how to use the device, he has been using it regularly and hasn't had a problem with it yet so I strongly recommend this product.

i bought this and had to return it because it would not work, AVID said any fast track interfaces do not work with mountain lion and wont for sometime most likely.

I do not reccommend the Pro Tools Software. It will not pick up my Fender Strat through the instrument port. It's possible this is because I'm running Windows 8, HOWEVER, this should not be a problem as I can record with my guitar just fine on Mixcraft and other good recording softwares. The M-Audio box is pretty cool. It works with almost any recording software, but I would really reccomend just going all out and spending closer to a grand or so on a quality recording studio, rather than this cheap portable studio. If you want to record portable recordings I'd reccomend purchasing a multitrack recorder instead.

This is what I was looking for. Great item to get started with home recording and mixing.
The real issue was I paid for 2 day Air shipping since I had a deadline to meet...but it took 2 days to even get it out of the warehouse and then another 4 days for me to receive it! I should have ordered the item elsewhere...
Bottom line: Great product, not so great at expiditing the purchased product when extra payment is required. Save your money and use the lowest cost of shipping available...you might get it faster!

I have a lot of Plug Ins and was thinkng I would be able to use them with Pro Tools SE but the truth is they are blocked. You must purchase Pro Tools LE or M powered and beinga as I use an older system it seems I am screwed becuase even though I would be willing to pay for it, the only versions available are far more than my machine will handle. Its kind of decieving and I am a bit miffed but at least I didnt pay full price. This is good for a brand new beginner. If you have a collection of Plug Ins, forget it!

After years of wrestling with other popular interface/software I am glad to finally get a stable recording set up. I want to add that although I am very pleased, it did take a little tweaking. First off this is not my first rodeo. I recommend you start with a fresh OS install and research and plan partitions on your hard drives. My OS runs ina 10,000 RPM. I have a top of the line cpu and multiple PCIe USB 2.0 cards. Use one USB card totally dedicated to the hardware. Separate drives for read and write, ect... If you are serious about giving this a go you may also want a dedicated machine. I use older pcs and keep them off line. I dont let my pc update unless absolutly neccessary and no Anti-virus. Turn off system restore ect... I think its worth the extra tweaks ect....

Software is riddled with error messages that will corrupt any work that you mannage to get done.Seems like many,many people are having the same issues online with only a few suggested fixes that wont work on my PC (windows 7).Ive tried for 2 days to get this fixed and will be returning it. "RUN" from this product.

I purchased the restock version and it arrived in new condition. I loaded the drivers and Pro Tools SE on my PC (Windows 7) and everything worked perfectly. The Fast Track interface delivers excellent sound quality and Pro Tools is very easy to use. I was recording multi-tracks in a matter of minutes. I am very impressed with this interface!

The unit is lightweight, simple, and has great sound quality. That being said it's not a "road warrior" by any means. I like how simple and easy the fast track is to use, some people may need a bit more knobs and features. The sound quality is crystal clear! I also like that you can record both inputs at the same time on different tracks. I did experience the noise when lowering the latency setting, even after getting the driver specific for my system from Avid. However, once I raised the setting again the noise went away. Notice I haven't mentioned the Pro Tools SE, for good reason, there's not much there and I find it difficult to get started. I just went back to my Samplitude Producer. I got the re-stock price and not sure where the re-stock is, so overall I'm happy with it.
