I bought this as a second large dual diaphragm mic so I could have two condenser mics with omni patterns for micing an acoustic guitar, my other dual diaphragm mic for guitar being an Audio Technica $699 mic, almost 5 times the cost of the B-2.My first impression was how heavy and solid the B-2 Pro feels, as well as the large TOGGLE switches for pattern and pad, which feel very high quality compared to the TINY slide switches of the Audio Technica. But that's not why I bought the mic - I bought it hoping it would sound good and I was not disappointed in the least, quite the contrary. This mic has too much high frequency emphasis and detail. But with that said, this is easily correctable (if desired) with some very minor EQ. The detail in the highs is amazing. Absolute clarity with no hint of distortion. The response of this mic is very flat up to 5kHz, throughout the critical midrange, and above that the boost is smooth and as mentioned above reversible with EQ. Comparatively, attempting to add high frequencies with EQ boost to the Audio Technica mic yielded what sounded just as bright but simply not as clear and clean as the B-2.I have been testing this mic out now for 2 days comparing it against other mics 3 or 4 times the price on steel string acoustic guitar and vocals, and all I can say is unless this thing breaks or something goes horribly wrong, this is the best deal in a studio microphone I have ever seen in my 30 years of recording audio, and yes I'll be purchasing more.I forgot to add, it seems to be able to handle very high SPLs with no perceptible distortion in addition to its exquisite sensitivity to high frequency detail at the low volume of an acoustic guitar. It's also very quiet. The noise in a quiet room that gets picked up is much higher than the noise floor of the mic. I need a recording room with better isolation. It also captures cymbals extremely well. I would venture to guess that there's actually not much this mic would sound bad on. If you want to spend about this much on a mic you can do no better. The only downside is it's big. But the 1" dual diaphragms are the main reason it sounds so good, and the weight probably helps control resonances.I guess my only other concern is ruggedness, but even if it wears out, if I get a year of good use out of it it's still a deal. This mic will compete with the best, and I mean mics costing several thousand dollars. It's not the best, but for under $500 it's the best, and you could pay a lot more, indeed well over $1000, and get an inferior mic.I don't normally even review products but in this case I was blown away. I can now understand all the positive reviews. They are most definitely deserved. As to the comments about the mics being "inconsistent" in sound, I'll let you know after I get a couple more.

This mic is descent. I have owned it for 4 years and have recorded just about everything with it. One problem I have with this mic is it dosen't sound good without EQ. It has a hot spot in the mids that make it almost impossible to mic any guitar cab. As an overhead it gets really dirty on the high end and overall sounds tinny. It does well with vocals, for the price but if you have a Sm57 or something you'd be better off using that on vocals. You basically get what you pay for with this mic. The Bass cut off is a nice feature, and so is the multi pattern switch built in. If you want a good and affordable mic this isn't a terrible choice. Maybe go with the B-1 or some of the MXL stuff. In this low price range you really get what you pay for.

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

I am a Behringer "snob" really. There is VERY few company's out there that give the bang for the buck OR customer service that good 'ol Berry does.

With that said, this mic is worth the $$. A little bright in the top in, but no where hear as shrill or edgy as the MXL990. It has a good solid Upper Mid and Low End, but to my ears there is a slight "hole" in the lower mid's, not even close to show stopping, but it's there.

Combined this with the MXL V67G and you have your LD mic's covered for a good while.

      Nice Mic

      By Shadow Records

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

This is a great mic. I've owned one for 5 years now and it's still in excellent condition. I've treated it with care but the connections and casing has held up very nicely. Sound wise, it has a very flat frequency response. Vocals are clear and guitar comes through nicely. As already stated in the previous reviews this is not a top quality mic, but for the price you get a very usable, versatile, starter mic.

      Good while it Lasted!

      By Andy Metz

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

I bought a pair of these in 2004, brand new, from this website. As a pair, they soundedd great! I have used them on everything from vocals to overheads on drums to bass mics, and kick drum mics and guitar cabs. Even used them to finish a recording for an engineering class at home and no one knew. now, 5 years later, with normal abuse, they are junk. One still works but the metal casing is loose, and the other has acquired a bit of a filtered sound. still use them for practice recordings, but could not use in a professional setting.

I record for a living using several of the Neumann high dollar mics. I bought this for occasional use at home. It sounds nearly identical to a stock Neumann u-87. Has a great presence in Omni.

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

This microphone has a very pure sound. Our group has really been pleased with the sound quality of the mic. The three pickup patterns are very useful because of the different ways that we have used the mic. I have used it to mic solos, to mic my bluegrass group, and to mic my classical guitar. It has worked wonderfully in all three types of performances.

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

You get a lot with the money you spend on this microphone. the shock mount that comes with it and the case are great. Its warm with solo's.... i didnt think it sounded tinny. The three cardoid selections are nice, Omni's pretty weak... i couldn't a warm sound with my a capella group unless we were all on top of the mic.

      An awsome mic

      By Jeremy Embrey

      from Columbia, MD

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

I received this mic as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. I have always been impressed with Behringer's quality and price after purchasing one of their mixers for remote recording jobs. I have used this mic on vocals, toms, tenor sax, trumpet, and as a distance mic on guitar cabs. My only complaints are that the signal is a little bit weak and the mic gets a little bit noisey from turning up the gain, which is why I gave it the 9 in quality.

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

Hello, Musicianfriend's FRIENDS!I would like to tell you several things about this wonderfull B-2 Pro.Condenser of Beringer:Two days ago I just Recorded a Classical Music Demo(Violin and Violoncello) and i am telling you- this Mic is one of the greatest for any accoustic sound recording!!!Ve-e-ery Clean, Crisp and Clear while capturing the Most Difficult for Recording Sounds - the one of the Orchrestral String Instruments!!! The price of B-2 Pro. is very, wery low, but... what is the problem? While The quality is Tousands of Times as Much more than the price - That IS Important!!!(That is not very often...)OK.Let me just indicate someting very interesting: several years ago I recorded a Wonderful Double CD (Violin and Piano) in a Very Expensive, Proffesional Studio,(Concert Hall) with 5 Neumans (1 for the violin, 2 for the Grand piano and 2 in the bottom of the hall for capturing the natural accustics) and...the sound which I have adjusted in my HOME STUDIO with this Beringer is... BETTER!I still cannot believe it... It is just... incredible? Guis,I am Trully amazed.(In the past I spent a Bunch of Money for the Double CD Studio Project!?!)One more Very important Thing is that the Self Noise of B-2 is almoust NONE! This Mic is just unbelievably quiet! So, in result-I Purchased one more Beringer B-2 Pro for my personal use!Great!!! Must have!!! Thanks, Beringer and MisicianfriendS!!!

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

I have numerous mics in my locker, and these outperform them considerably. I bought two of them originally to blend with my neumanns. I was shocked when a mic that cost me the tenth of my "best mic" had much more clarity and definition. What is marked as a 'presence boost' really helps out when miking just about anything. Really nice for articulation in vocals, guitars and piano. I used two of them as drum overheads, and i almost didn't want to turn up the mics on the snare and toms! the clarity and punch was all there. When demo tracking, i used one set figure 8 on vocal, and the other cardioid for an acoustic guitar. There was minimal crosstalk between the mics. That demo came out better than recordings i've paid $1000 for!! The whole package is great. A great mic, exellent case, decent suspension, and one heck of a clown nose for a windscreen.....

I received this B-2 as a Christmas gift and I have to say I have been impressed. The ability to change patterns is nice and the low cut filter is an added plus. So far the only thing we have tried this on has been vocals in the studio and it performs good in that capacity. I have no reason to believe it would not perform well as an instrument microphone as well.To sum it all up the B-2 is an excellent microphone for the money. It's not a Neumann or an AKG but it's not a bad investment at all!A good all purpose condenser mic!

I have had this Mic over 10 years. I have used the rode NT1A and recently the AKG P220. Far as natural sound I prefer this Mic over the other two. The rode was ok, but it did not have the roll off switch which I didn't like. The akg was decent but I went back to the B2 after 3 weeks. I just like the way it makes my voice sound. I record hiphop at my home studio by the way. I would definitely buy this Mic again if something happens to my old one.

Comments about Behringer B-2 Pro Condenser Microphone:

Overall, it's a great mic for the price. I have recorded songs with it I still love and people are listening to them still, after 5 years (rap).

Now I have an AT4040 and I like it more than the B-2 PRO, but I can guarantee that the B-2 will NOT stop you from making a hit record.

If you are a mixing freak, you should know that the mic's sound is not really EQable. It has a certain sound character, and it's not likely that you'll be able to shape it's sound (which I can do with my AT4040 now). But that sound is okay, with strong high-mids.

If you are on this type of budget, it's a great choice. I'd choose it over the AT2020.
