OVERVIEW

A matched pair of small diaphragm condenser mics ideal for stereo recording

Behringer C-2 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphones are for studio recording and live applications. All their features are packed in an extremely compact mic tube. Behrinber C-2 mics are sold in matched pairs”perfect for stereophonic recording”for a price you might think only bought you a single microphone.

Behringer C-2 microphones use a low-mass diaphragm for ultra-wide frequency response and ultimate sound reproduction. The mics' inconspicuous size makes them perfect for acoustic instruments, overhead applications, pianos and similar instruents.

The Behringer C-2 microphone's cardioid pickup pattern effectively eliminates feedback, plus they offer switchable low-frequency roll-off and -10 dB input attenuation. Ultra low-noise transformerless FET input eliminates low-frequency distortion, while a gold-plated 3-pin XLR connector assures the highest signal integrity. Behringer includes microphone stand adapters, windscreens, stereo-bar and a transport case. These Behringer condenser microphones are ready for action straight out of the box! If super-compact size is paramount and you don't want to compromise on performance, then a pair of Behringer C-2 microphones is the answer.

I purchased this stereo pair to aid in recording a family band. I was looking for more clarity than the dynamic mics I already had (Shure sm58, EV re320, AT4000s,) and cheaper and tighter pattern than the Large Diaphragm condensers I had (AT3035, MXL990, AT2035) I needed a quick and economical way to get a good sound.

These mics do the job. They deliver a crisp, accurate representation of the instrument. The signal isn't as hot as I was used to with LDCs but it is comparable to dynamics. The pickup pattern is fairly tight and doesn't pick up much off-axis sound. In stereo formation (XY incident pair) I was able to capture a very detailed, articulate sound field from a baby grand piano by putting the mics under the open top, one pointing at the bass strings, the other at the treble.
I would purchase more of them to used on stage and in studio except for two things.
    1. The XLR connections are rather loose. I haven't heard any pops or clicks in the recordings that would indicate poor electrical contact, but the physical connections wobble considerably and I fear that on stage with more movement than in studio, there could be issues. I shall investigate and see if it is an actual issue and also if it can be fixed.
    2. The stereo mic'ing bar and mic clamps aren't offset-able. Meaning that when oriented in an incident XY pattern, the microphones hit each other and must be angled, one up and one down, to fit. This can be accounted for by angling the entire mic bar correctly so that both mics are still pointing in the horizontal plane (or whatever plane your stereo field is) but it is still awkward and not always easy. I shall experiment with some adapters to see if I can correct this problem by raising one mic clamp on the bar by about 3/4 inch.

Basically, these mics are good, but the low price means they are skimping on some things. As a starter into the SDC world they are a good deal. As professional mics, they are lacking in some respects.

I use these mics as overheads for my conga/bongo kit on live club gigs. When operable, they served their purpose. And for the record, I baby ALL of my equipment, even to the point of actually being teased about it, so rough handling was NOT the cause of my problem. I enjoyed them for about 6 or so gigs, then I started to get a lot of snap, crackle and pop from one of them every time I would try to adjust its position. I thought it was a short in a cable jack at first, but replaced cables twice, only to determine it is some kind of short within the mic itself. I bought a warranty, so I'll be shipping them back for replacement. My recommendation is to only utilize these mics for light-duty applications; home studio, permanent placement for a choir, etc., as some other reviewers here are doing. I also recommend purchasing a warranty, regardless of your application.

Comments about Behringer C-2 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone Pair:

I used to do lighting for plays and the sound guy hung these above the stage to help pick up actors with no MICS.. I went to my local music store and asked about them and they only had positive things to say, I picked up a pair and I was blown away, I would suggest these for overheads on drums, truely a great mic, the price is unbelievable it does not make any sence. Buy this product it comes in packs of two, who could ask for more?

Crystal clear, perfect for recording acoustic guitar in stereo. Well worth the price. Also used them to record wind-chimes. I imagine I will use these to record lots of acoustic instruments in stereo.

Comments about Behringer C-2 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone Pair:

I purchased these mics on a whim to round out my modest mic locker with some SDCs for spot micing. The quality and features of the mics are surprising: low-cut/-10db switches, stereo bar, windscreens...everything one would need to begin using these mics in any situation.I can't attest to the mics' sound as OH, or X-Y on piano, I bought these guys for one purpose: snare micing. An SDC coupled with an SM57 or e609 is the perfect snare sound for me. An with the -10db pad and windscreens, I can use these mics in the studio AND onstage. There are better mics out there, but names don't mean anything if they can't deliver the sound you're after.

A steal for the cost! These mics are worth more than double what they are charged for.
BUT BEWARE! The clips they come with are VERY VERY tight! This makes for difficulty when removing the mics from the stands. USE CAUTION! I had to return mine because one broke after being jerked out of the very pressurized clips. Sure wish those were adjustable!
Other than that, these mics are great. Perfect for Field Recording!!!

Comments about Behringer C-2 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone Pair:

I got these to serve as a stereo pair for close micing acoustic guitar. I do the standard setup of pointing one toward the sound hole and the other at the neck. The included stereo mic mount works perfectly for this application. The mics get good sound and great detail for this application. With careful tweaking with an outboard preamp, I get great audio, with extremely minimal self noise (virtually none) and a detailed, hot signal. Great for solo finger style acoustic guitar recording. I'm using the behringer tube ultra gain mic200 as my mic pre with these. So, very, very affordable setup for a pro level sound.
The only drawback is that there is no isolation mount for these mics. So, they are susceptible to picking up 'rumble' from the floor.

Comments about Behringer C-2 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone Pair:

I am replacing a set of good quality dynamic mics with this pair. I use them primarily for recording at home. The dynamics were quite crisp, but were more at home for voice and instruments always sounded trebly and harsh, even after trying different EQ settings. The C-2's give a very clear, authentic, and balanced sound by comparison.
I also have a Behringer Eurorack UB802, and with these C-2 mics, it's a great little package that delivers excellent sound and mixing capabilities for not much money. As far as durability goes, these items do not travel (yet), so the word is not complete on that subject.

I purchased a set of these to see if they were any good and was amazed at what you get for the money. These are not high end microphones but a great set of backup mics and for general use. After playing around with them for a couple of weeks I ordered two more sets.

For Ed Bustamante it didn't work like the other. Now the recent "AKG," I know its phantom source isn't need but it works.

                      thanks
