OVERVIEW

Converts 2 separate unbalanced 1/4" jack inputs into 2 balanced XLR outputs.

The innovative, active 2-channel Behringer DI20 Ultra DI 2-Channel Active DI Box/Splitter takes the signal directly from an unbalanced high-impedance output--like an electric guitar--and feeds it directly into a mixing console or recorder. It is ideally suited to augment the traveling gear of musicians (especially guitar/bass players) as well as live/studio/broadcast engineers, installation contractors, and studios/live event engineers. The DI20 converts 2 separate unbalanced 1/4" jack inputs into 2 balanced XLR outputs. There is a 2-channel/link mode for flexible use as mono, 2-channel, or splitter box. In link mode, channel 1 can be split up into 2 balanced XLR connectors plus one unbalanced 1/4" jack connector. Switchable input attenuation in 3 ranges allows input levels of up to +48dBu, while a ground lift switch eliminates typical ground loop problems. Operates on 9V battery or 48V phantom power. Ultracompact rugged housing.

I've had this unit for a year and bought it before reading the reviews...after reading them I started to worry. Turns out, I had nothing to be concerned with. This DI rocks! I got the DI so that I could split the audio from my laptop (used for electronic sound sources) between the FOH mixer and my monitor mixer during live shows and also for practicing at home, and it works like a champ...clean and quiet. The only time I've had audio issues is when I had to replace the laptop's power supply temporarily with a not quite right spare power supply...the correct replacement solved the issue. Battery lasts for a long time (I don't use the phantom power on the DI). I haven't replaced the battery yet, and I've left it on overnight several times. If used properly (read the manual) and the source has a good, clean power source, there should be no issues with the DI.

I have four of these units, some travel with a group, others are for local stage. We've had them two years and found that the balanced line out pins seem to pull out. Unfortunately the warranty didn't cover replacement. Also have had some crosstalk between channels. Did like the price and they work when passive units fail. Generally a better idea to buy separate units for each instrument.

Comments about Behringer DI20 Ultra DI 2-Channel Active DI Box/Splitter:

I wasn't going to post a review but the last person said you cannot pass through. You can, plug guitar into Ch1, use the link, now either xlr can go to the PA and the CH2 input jack is now your pass through to the amp.

This is what I love about this little box, it's a problem solver.
Not sure if I'd trust it if I was a full on pro rig, but it has worked flawlessly for me when I do live sound at small festivals. I mostly use it for keyboards or for a Laptop/ MP3 player send. But I've also used it as a Bass or Guitar DI as well as Acoustic instruments with PU.
Nice that you have the Battery option too.

Comments about Behringer DI20 Ultra DI 2-Channel Active DI Box/Splitter:

If you want this product to work you nned a box for each instument. Have not tried to use as a splitter but the two channel mode is not that great. Like I said one signal per box and it works great.

Comments about Behringer DI20 Ultra DI 2-Channel Active DI Box/Splitter:

I've had this box for a few years now and only keep it around for EXTREME emergencies. It has had many problems with crosstalk between the two channels and yes, a constant hiss keeps finding its way into the mix. It's an ok investment for garage bands on a budget and want to save some space.

Comments about Behringer DI20 Ultra DI 2-Channel Active DI Box/Splitter:

Just got this a few months ago, and I'm not even sure if I've used it. Anyway, plugged it in today and it has a very noticeable hiss. I've used other Behringer DI's without any problems. But this one doesn't fall in the same category. I'll try to replace it under warranty, but I'll probably invest in another unit anyway.

Comments about Behringer DI20 Ultra DI 2-Channel Active DI Box/Splitter:

Can't complain about the sound quality or the price. I use this on stage to connect my laptop to the sound system. It delivers deep bass drops without distortion, even way below the sonic range (I know this because I also use a Buttkicker).

The main problem with this is that the left and right channels bleed together a bit. At one of the churches I play at, we use a click track because we play with some loops. On the left channel, I send the loops; on the right channel, I send the click. If the click is too loud, it can be heard in the mains during quiet passages. Totally not acceptable. If I were using this for other purposes where that bit of bleed wouldn't be as critical, it would be irrelevant to me. I've used other copies of this model and they have the same issue, not just mine. If this were not a problem, I would easily give it five stars.

Comments about Behringer DI20 Ultra DI 2-Channel Active DI Box/Splitter:

I use this direct box for a variety of things on my DJ gigs, On-stage performances with tracks and click, and to my home studio. This is literally the most powerful and versatile direct box I have used. Other than this DI box, I also own the Radial Engineering ProDI, Whirlwind IMP2, and the Berhinger ULTRA-DI DI100. I love the linking functions to this direct box because of how I can set it up and split my instrument tracks from my click and guide tracks when I am performing by myself. You don't have to worry about buying 9V batteries nonstop, when you are using a sound system with 48V preamp phantom power. It comes in very handy and I am loving it. Usually I have bad stuff to say about Behringer, but when a friend recommended this for my DJ rig for venues with a sound system already, I thought that I might as well try it out and I am not regretting it one bit. This DI here allows me to split my left and right decks from being stuck into one channel only and making it stereo. I definitely recommend this for any DJ.

Comments about Behringer DI20 Ultra DI 2-Channel Active DI Box/Splitter:

I bought this direct box sometime around 3 years ago for my DJ set up. I was to perform at a local church's Christmas music production and I needed a direct box to handle 2 channels and something cheaper. Found this at a local guitar/pawn shop and bought it on the fly. I use this for all of my performances now for events, parties, and weddings. I love how versatile this DI can be, especially when you constantly forget to buy 9V batteries for it, lol. You can link the DI box in ways to use it as parallel inputs/outputs or as a thru output to send to an amp or monitor. As a Sound Engineer, I use this Direct Box for stereo based instruments like laptops and iPads used for stems/tracks as well as for those that use stereo keyboards or multiple keyboards.

We use this unit with our keyboard to utilize the L & R channels (1/4" TRS inputs) and connect the XLR outputs direct to a Behringer S16 stage box. The S16 supplies the necessary +48v for power. The unit is very rugged and has perform flawlessly. We have not had to engage the ground lift switches or the gain switches.
