If you are being realistic with your expectations, this is the best firewire device for the money. Cosmetically it looks very high end (its metal, not plastic) and it records at up to 96khz. The sound quality is excellent (anyone complaining about lifeless sound is new to digital audio, those are the ropes). Only 2 ins and outs, so you need a separate board to record a whole band, but for a home studio or mobile recording, this is the best you'll find at this price (although I like it better than some more expensive boxes).

This is a great piece of hardware, but only if you use XP. I upgraded my computer, and there are only motherboard drivers for Vista. Since there are no Vista drivers for the FCA202, and no mention of when, if ever, we may get some, this has become a bit of a brick on my desk.

Comments about Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface:

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and Logic Pro X. I have had a lot of odds and ends for the studio and now I can bring them all together to record on one device. The FCA202 Firewire interface is perfect for hooking up my Behringer Mixer and allowing me to connect my collection of keyboards dating back to the 80's and bring them all in for one Kick axe studio. Also makes for a very lightweight mobile studio to bring to gigs and to record albums for other bands. Look out cause here I come. Ronster Monster Records is back on the move.

      AWESOME INTERFACE

Comments about Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface:

Bought this along with a Behringer 1202 mixer. All hooks up great, but the driver CD came in warped, but I figured no biggie cause Behringer has the download on their site. The only thing this doesnt clearify is if It is capable of recording multiple tracks simutaniously. I still havent figured that one out. Im I drummer, so I would like to know if thats possible. If someone could include the answer in the next review that'd be great. Great little Interface!

Comments about Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface:

LOVE IT!!!!!!!This is the best you can get for the price. Easy to use and downloading the driver from behringer was to. It looks and acts very high end. Firewire is def way better than usb(in my exp). I use it with the behringer 802 mixer and the c-1 mic and it sounds great. The recording software that comes with it(ableton) is a liitle difficult but the free ones that you can download from behringer (kristal, or Audacity) are super easy.

      A Nice little unit!

Comments about Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface:

I have had this for about 2 months, using a Behringer UB802 mixer, MXL990 mic, Korg AXG1 pedal, and a DOD direct box for bass & the acoustic pickups from my HTL-TB and EAB Bass.Using this with Kristal Audio Engine, Adobe Audition 1.5, and Music Studio 12 Deluxe all I can say is.....WOW! In all 3 programs I can get a solid 4ms latency at 48kHz. This is on a Frankenstein 1.9gHz P4 with 2GB of memory and a ancient SIIG 400 PCI Firewire card. Some people have said it sounds "flat & lifeless". I work with some studios that have the RME and Digi stuff, and yes it does sound sort of flat and 2 dimensional in a side by side comparison. But it is no worse than a M-Audio 2496 or Delta series cards, or even the EMu 0404 (I have used & owned all of these for at least a year) and it is LIGHT YEARS ahead of any Soundblaster card most home setups use.I bought this for a "new" build, and got the bonus of portability for my laptop. This is a great buy IMHO!

      Great Piece of Equipment

Comments about Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface:

I bought this as an alternative to the higher priced M-Audio and PreSonus products because I don't really have cash to throw around. This thing does great with my Xenyx 1202 mixer and my macbook. Sure, it doesn't offer all the individual channel control for stuff like comparing mic sound, but if your just starting out, it's an amazing interface.

      Works like a charm

      By Doug Watts

      from Augusta, Maine

Comments about Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface:

I'm rebuilding from my old iMac G3 firewire recording studio to using a 1.42 Ghz G4 Mini-mac with GarageBand. I bought the FCA202 ($80) with the Behringer eurorack UB802 mixer ($40) and I'm all set. They work perfectly together. The FCA202 is designed for firewire Macs and needs no power source. You just plug the firewire cable to the computer and that's it. The sound quality on my reference source is perfect (acoustic w/soundhole pick-up into Fender Frontman reverb). Behringer did the right thing by focussing on putting in really good converters instead spending cake on lots of 'features' you don't need or want. With the UB802 mixer, you don't need any features on the interface anyways. Good show.

      Inconsistant

      By James-A-2Aq

Comments about Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface:

I bought this, installed it, and ran it smoothly. However, it would randomly tend to freeze up and crash while I was recording, even on this high end laptop.I must say its very useful though. Also, the latency, when set lower may tend to cause feedback, so you need to set it around 20 ms resulting in a delay in playback unless you're listening to yourself directly through the F-CA.

      Clicks/Pops/glitches/Audio dropouts? - Solution

      By Anonymous

Comments about Behringer FCA202 F-Control FireWire Audio Interface:

For those of you facing the above problems when recording using laptop try this: Close wireless connection, antivirus, google desktop and essentially anything on the taskbar which is not directly linked to the usage of this interface. It worked for me. I recorded with and without the above and my experiments conclusion is to close all the above. Also remove any USB connections.
