The biggest hassle with the simple A/B switches is when separate speakers have different fixed gain levels, and your switching back and forth. This unit at least has two separate gain settings for the selectable outputs, so I can preset the monitors to the same level and not be blasted out of my seat when I forget to turn it down. One knob is permanently hooked to output "A", and the other is for output "B" and "C", as hardwired from the factory. Now granted, a separate level for each individual stereo output would be nice, and replacing the headphone output for a forth line-level-out. This unit has a lot of 'Features' that I don't need and will probably never use. What I do Use works extremely well, and was exactly what I wanted. Selectable input, and level/cutout control for two outputs. It mounted to the bottom-side of the Display-shelf of my CAD/DAW desk perfectly, like it was meant to be there.

It's got a lot of features and lots of gain. It's great for beginners working in a home studio. But two problems keep this from being really useful for professional mix monitoring.

1. No balanced outputs.
2. A large reduction in stereo imaging and spread. Stereo images sounded much narrower through this box versus straight out of my mixer (and the mono button wasn't pressed, I checked.)

There was some coloration of sound as well, but that wasn't as much of a deal breaker.

Giving it three stars because while it's great for someone just starting out, its usefulness drops off over time.

Does exactly what I need - wish it sounded a little better

By Seth

from Atlanta, GA

Ask me a question

Comments about Behringer MON800 MiniMON Stereo Monitor Matrix Mixer:

As far as function - I couldn't ask for more. This exactly what I needed to get my monitor setup under control. I wish it would go in a rack, but it's small enough that I worked it out without too much trouble. The only problem is that there was an immediately noticable change in the sound of my speakers from passing through this. There is a definite low-end roll off and the highs became a little more harsh. Enough that when I'm working on critical mixes, I'll probably bypass it even though that's when I would need the function the most. The sound problems are less pronounced when I hit it with a lower level input. If I set the input level according the instructions - with the meters hitting around 0, it sounds awful. When the input is low, it's a lot better. All-in-all, worth the price for day to day convenience.

Perfect little box!

Comments about Behringer MON800 MiniMON Stereo Monitor Matrix Mixer:

All features neede are here and the box itself adds not a hint of additional noise!
Once again this is another..."plug and play" device from Behringer. It has most of the features of the big studio control boxes at not even a fraction of the price. Three way monitor switching, head phone at the console, head phones out, studio talk back and headphone talk back! BTW all buttons are back lit for low light studios!
Quality is more than acceptable at this price point.
This is a true "value" item.

MiniMon

By Mark Dooley

from Chicago area

Comments about Behringer MON800 MiniMON Stereo Monitor Matrix Mixer:

If you are wavering on what to get as I often do this will please you.
This little item was one of the best purchases I ever made. I have used it for 4 years now and could not be happier. It is perfect for the small home studio setup for interfacing with the Daw, Computer, Monitors and Headphones. It will route your signals to what ever you may need with clean and clear sound and no coloration. I coupled this with the Miniamp and was set for headphone mixes all for a great price. The talk Back feature is huge plus. If you are on a tight budget, and who isn't do not let the name or the price scare you away. My only complaint is that while you can mount it to a rack shelf you can't mount the Minimon and the Miniamp side by side because together they are wider than the 17" available on the shelf. I have recently upgraded from the Miniamp to the Art Headamp 6 Pro fro the neede power output but still use the Minimon for signal routing and the talkback feature.
I have had no issues with it.
For the price and the features you get when your setting up a signal routing system it cannot be beat.

Low budget dream...

By Peppah Gos

from Nova Scotia, Canada

Comments about Behringer MON800 MiniMON Stereo Monitor Matrix Mixer:

It does what it says and has a flat, clean, and uncolored sound. It's small size is perfect for my desktop sized, home studio setup, because it bridges the gap between my BR900 CD, computer, stereo, headphones and monitors, and I still have input/output options left.....GREAT DEAL

GET THIS BOX!!!

By stobyjoe

from Arkansas

Comments about Behringer MON800 MiniMON Stereo Monitor Matrix Mixer:

Clean, uncolored sound. Does the jobs it claims to do very well indeed. The only con I can think of is it has no threded holes in the bottom for mounting to a rack shelf. But a little creative engineeering solved that problem. In the fabric dept. of Wally World, I purchased some stick on velcro dots, now the mini mon rides piggy back on my rack mounted headphone amp, the velcro secures it quite firmly. Get this unit and take the remainder of the $299 you would have spent on a big knob and invest it in a nice pre-amp, or e.q, or condendser, etc.

Amazing for the price

By BehringerFan202

from Alpharetta, GA

Comments about Behringer MON800 MiniMON Stereo Monitor Matrix Mixer:

The frequency response of this device is flat, even at high/low volume levels. It's very low noise, even when providing 15 dB of gain to the signal. Impulse response is not perfect, but pretty good.Overall, I'm stunned by the performance of this little "pre-amp" for the price. I'm using it with the UCA202 and B2031A's to monitor high school band and piano concert recordings.Although the entire box is made of plastic, it feels solid and does not flex even when sqeezed hard.If I could change something about the MON800, I'd opt for balanced TRS outputs and inputs for all of the 1/4" jacks instead of single-ended TS jacks. Besides that, it's perfect for my use.Just because it's cheap does not mean that you should skimp on cables. In any reasonable installation, the cables will cost several times more than the MON800 for best performance.

beh. minimon

By revolver3116

from rockville, MD

Comments about Behringer MON800 MiniMON Stereo Monitor Matrix Mixer:

This unit does pretty much everything it claims to do, it brings in a signal, directs it, and sends it. It doesn't change the sould quality at all, for better or for worse. a problem with mine is that the mute button became very loose after about a week, so it was used maybe twice. this is a great breakout/source directing device on a budget.

I was supprised

By Philthyone

from Las Vegas NV

Comments about Behringer MON800 MiniMON Stereo Monitor Matrix Mixer:

I was supprised to say the least by this product. I needed something to route my monitors and control volume. This seemed like a reasonable gamble for the price. I am blown away by the functionality, straight forward setup and operation and quality. If you have a DAW at home, this is the ticket for monitor managment. The talkback feature is a godsend and was just gravy for my needs. I now have my Events, some M-audio BX4
