OVERVIEW

A versatile 2-way stereo speaker system for home studio of personal monitoring.

The BEHRINGER MS16 is a compact 2-way stereo speaker system for home studio or multimedia applications and instrument or vocal monitoring.

2 high-power amplifiers drive the 4'' woofers and the high-resolution tweeters. The front-mounted volume control and individual bass and treble controls make accurate sound adjustments a breeze.

2 stereo line inputs (RCA and 1/8'' TRS) allow simultaneous use of 2 stereo sources, so you can play back CDs, MDs or MP3s and use an electric guitar/keyboard at the same time. In addition, the 1/4'' TRS microphone input lets you mix vocals with a stereo track.

Magnetic shielding and compact size make these speakers perfect for placement near video monitors or computer displays.

FEATURES
  • Compact stereo speaker system ideally suited for home studios, multimedia applications, keyboard and vocal monitoring etc.
  • Powerful 4" woofers and high-resolution tweeters powered by 2 - 8 watt amplifiers
  • Dedicated volume, bass and treble controls for more flexibility
  • Stereo RCA inputs for soundcards, keyboards etc. that can be used simultaneously with second stereo source (e.g. CD/MD player) through 1/8" TRS stereo input

I can't see why people were complaining there was no bass response when I first set them up I had them on my coffee table and a cup of water on a coaster, the bass was so loud and just on an apple loop that it was vibrating the water. If you can EQ it yourself (granted it takes a while) then you should be fine. This is a great start to a studio and you won't be dissapointed. Don't use it one time like these people have and say oh it has no sound or bass, because I turned the volume up rolled the bass about 5 and the trebles from 5-8 and it sounded just like the models were supposed to so I can't complain, hope it helps, it's a good price point for a good quality piece of studio equipment.
It has everything you need, i was even surprised when it came with the cables to hook it up to my Macbook. I figured I would have to spend more money to get the right cables, so I was greatly appreciative. I wanted a good set of speakers to record and monitor through Logic Pro becuase the labtop speakers were just not very good at all. Get both stereo speakers, two mixed inputs (say computer and Ipod) and it has dedicated EQ and volume on the unit which is a plus.
They are friggin heavy!! Way more than I expected, German's have always made good speakers and these are no exception, big heavy magnets and a great build quality, no complaints so far.
Awesome, all I needed was a little more punch to monitor my bass response on the songs I'm working on and make sure the EQ was right where I wanted it to be. I was surprised when it inspired me to do even more and I was able to tweak the EQ to exactly where I wanted it, so to me it did everything I asked it to and more, it gets loud, really loud and the cool thing is if your playing say the drums and bass as a loop, then they come more out of the right speaker and the mids (guitar) that I'm playing comes out fo the left. Everything is clear and easy to hear it's perfect, I can't imagine any more expensive one doing more.

I can't remember leaving a bad review on MF but these speakers are not happening. Been giving them a go for 4 weeks now. Just did an exchange for the Alesis Elevate 3's.

First of all these things are not shielded very well. Even know I figured I was really just getting nice computer speakers, I had to move the digital clock away from them (getting a digital motor boat sound in the amp) and then I noticed they had to be a certain angle to the Acer 22inch monitor or I got digital noise.

The main reason I got these: they have tone controls on the front and since they were going to be on one of my computers that double as quick recording and internet surfing, I wanted to be able to dial in tones at different websites without going in to the computer. My other computer is a recording workhorse with Alesis 520 speakers.

But apart from the digital noise problem, they sound like so so computer speakers. Nothing is out of phase, all controls flat and still, Yuk!! I don't think they should even be in the monitor section really of MF, for example how serious are these speakers? If you look at the picture the two holes at the top...one is the tweeter and the other is a bass port I guess. The thing is the tweeter is on the left in both monitors...Doesn't sound like they were going after anything symmetrical as far the sound field is concerned.

Through with the rant...I know monitors are like guitars and microphones, everyone ear is subjective. And if these work for you, my hat's off to you. As far as people complaining about bass response...I didn't turn them above 12:00 to check that, I was afraid they would explode.... :)

Comments about Behringer MS16 Active Personal Monitor System:

Before purchasing i read the reviews and noticed a few bad comments concerning bass response.I mainly record Reggae, dub and ska. I am not having a problem with bass and those are bass heavy genres. They are clear and tight sounding ,weather i am using bass guitar or synth generated bass sounds ,these speakers can handle it!!
For the cost versus quality, i would endorse these as a great addition to any home studio setup.

Comments about Behringer MS16 Active Personal Monitor System:

Wouldn't be my only pair of monitors, but a great second set for reference, djing, or for impromptu laptop setups.
This had all of the features I was personally looking for. I currently have 2 krk rp8's and wanted something smaller to reference with and also put directly over my decks so I can mix late without having to wake the neighbors up.
It's ok. The weight of the left speaker is extermely light (sans power), so it gives you an idea of the size magnet used. The sound is quite flat though.
    Great for my needs.

Comments about Behringer MS16 Active Personal Monitor System:

I'm extremely happy with these monitors. They sound fantastic.
These monitors have features that typically appear in more expensive monitors.
The sound quality from these monitors is simply amazing.
The price vs performance of these monitors makes them a better value than any monitors that come even close to this price.

A decent speaker at a good price!

Comments about Behringer MS16 Active Personal Monitor System:

I have had these for close to a year now, and I have to say that for them being basically large plastic computer speakers, they work really well! They have 8 watts per channel, but don't let that fool you, they can get plenty loud for 8 watts. Their frequency range is stated at 80 to 20k, but they really start to cut off around 100hz. The mid range is slightly forward, so adjusting your vocals & reverb's is pretty easy. Tho the mid's are out front, these speakers are in no way piercing or fatiguing. After getting use to them (like any speaker) you will have no problem making adjustments with them.To make up for that lack of lows that every 4" Woofer-Based monitor has, I am using the old dual 5" sub from my Altec speakers. These speakers are clones of the old Roland monitors in every way EXCEPT that the tweeter is mounted on the Left side of both cabinets, where the Roland's had them as a Mirrored image. You will outgrow them fast, but in a pinch they work very well!

Very versatile little monitors and a very good value as well. I replaced a set of Roland M-8s which were virtually identical to these which I used for 16 years. I have found this type of product to be very useful in recording, practice, and even performance in smaller, quieter venues.

Very good value. For their size: strong bass, clean highs, balanced mid-range. If using with a computer you have to know how to adjust your computer settings to "external speakers" to get the correct sound. I have no complaints and would buy these again for my uses: boosting my computer's sound, mixing a high-quality amateur album, listening to my mp3 player. There is some background hiss from the power source, but I don't notice it once the music plays.

I travel on business a lot. I needed a small, light, quality, sound system to attach to my computer to watch netflix movies, to listen to web casts, and to attach to my I pod while I'm in a hotel room. This is perfect. I have plenty of bigger, heavier, better quality sound equipment at home...but that won't fit in my suitcase.

Comments about Behringer MS16 Active Personal Monitor System:

I have always had great luck with Behringer stuff, so when my 10 year old computer speakers I was using for my home setup started to die, I looked around for some "stop gap" monitors and quickly grabbed these.Overall, they are surprisingly nice for being plastic computer monitors. The freq is not that flat, and the low end lacks of course, but they have a nice, punchy sound that is easy to work with. The small tweeters are smooth, not harsh, and when I added my old dual 5" sub to the mix, and placed it low in the background, I started turning out some decent balanced mixes, tho even without the sub I was getting good results. The amount of I/O's, tone controls, and headphone out, makes this a ridiculous deal for the price IMHO.Are they keepers? For now, and would make a decent first pair for a home setup if you are on a budget. But if you can, save some extra$$ and step up some if you are even semi serious about your home setup....the extra $$ is worth it...

They are inexpensive speakers, what did I expect? I'll admit I was disappointed by the lack of bass response, but others have mentioned it, so I should have been ready for that. These are basically plastic computer speakers, so if you're looking for more than that, do a little more shopping.

I was disappointed. The units were toy like. My logitech computer speakers are far superior. I expected better from this brand. But Fender makes that little 1 watt mini amp too so maybe this is a trend. Musician's Friend customer service was first class and handled the return professionally. They get an extra star for that. Great company.

I bought my second pair of these last year not because the first ones had died but because I got tired of moving them room to room. They are nice sounding until you ask them to put out too much bass then they break up and sound horrible. Also they really don't like being run at top volume. I wasn't too aware of their limitations until I hooked them up to my mixer and a synth. Then I tried them with another keyboard straight and believe it or not the speakers in the keyboard sounded better. Still paired with an iPod they make a good portable way to listen while you work.
