        Behringer

        A huge studio problem solver.

The Behringer ULTRAMATCH PRO SRC2496 is the successor to the renowned SRC2000, and enables you to transfer digital audio signals between devices with different sample rates, formats, or interfaces; disable SCMS for 1:1 digital copies; and remove dropouts or jitter from digital media. Simultaneously operable outputs offer splitter functionality. The 24-bit/96kHz-compatible SRC2496 now offers high-quality 24-bit/96kHz A/D/A conversion. It's perfectly suitable for studio work with format conversion between AES/EBU and S/PDIF (coaxial or optical). High-quality signal output with 16-, 20- or 24-bit resolution. Universal sample rate synchronization is done via word clock or digital input. XLR, RCA, and optical outputs are simultaneously operational with separately selectable inputs, turning this unit into a digital patchbay.

Once you get used to it for high end, live level music listening, you will not be able to live without it.
Aside from being a digital swiss army knife that enables you to connect 3 different digital units and 1 analog unit, the sound is spectacular.

            Problem Solver

Comments about Behringer SRC2496 ULTRAMATCH PRO Converter:

I have had the Ultramatch Pro for two years and it has gotten me out of a lot of jams. It isn't something I use on a daily basis, but when I need it, it has always come through. For a Behringer it seems to be fairly solidly built. I haven't had any self ejecting parts and all the knobs and buttons are still in working order. This thing has about every input and output you can imagine and, with a quick browse of the manual, is easily configured for whatever kind of conversion you want to do. This can really be a lifesaver in this world where manufacturers can't seem to decide on a single digital protocal. I have had this paired with a Presonus Firestudio for the past year and it has been a great combination when I want to throw something other than SPDIF at the Firestudio. Not to mention that the thing lights up like an airport which makes your rack look that much cooler. Overall I have been really happy with it. It does what it says it will do as long as you are gentle with it, it should help solve your digital conversion issues.

            Poor Quality

Comments about Behringer SRC2496 ULTRAMATCH PRO Converter:

I really wanted to like this thing, apparently it can do everything, and I want to like Behringer. What I really needed it to do was to convert from SPDIF RCA input to SPDIF optical output. There are cheaper devices for this application but I figured why not be prepared for other needs... Problems were:1) Brand new, there was something loose inside the rack (don't you just hate that). So I opened it up and it was a loose piece of plastic/rubber. Ended up stripping out one of the screws (must be made of SOFT material) and can't get it out, thus voiding my warranty.2) Plugged in the toslink output cable. It didn't sit right, so I pulled it back out and the whole cable housing piece came out, then broke apart. I thought I was having bad luck and tried with the toslink input, and the thing came out again, but at least didn't completely disintegrate. 3) Toslink output didn't even light up (input worked) and I tried every setting. This is after the 45 days from MF invoice so I can't return to them, and I'm sure I voided Behr. warranty by opening it up. I'm going to box it and throw it in the garbage, take it if you want it. What a waste of 2 hundred bucks.
