OVERVIEW

100 effects presets for quality studio use or FOH.

The Behringer XENYX 1202FX mixing console incorporates a studio-grade 24-bit FX processor with 100 awesome effect presets. The 1202FX also has 12 inputs and an FX send control for each channel. Additionally, assignable CD/tape inputs have been incorporated for routing flexibility. Behringer's innovative and affordable XENYX mixers provide the home recordist and club musician with pristine sound quality and cutting-edge features for very little outlay. The XENYX mic preamp approaches the sound quality, transparency, headroom, and even the dynamic range of boutique-style, standalone mic preamps. Behringer's neo-classic "British EQ" brings back the warmth and musicality of those '60s and '70s mega-console desks that made music history.

FEATURES
  • Premium ultra low-noise, high headroom analog mixer
  • 4 state-of-the-art XENYX Mic Preamps comparable to standalone boutique preamps
  • Neo-classic "British" 3-band EQs for warm and musical sound
  • Studio-grade 24-bit stereo FX processor with 100 awesome presets including reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, pitch shifter and various multi-effects
  • FX send control per channel for internal FX processor and/or as external send
  • Main mix outputs plus separate control room, phones and stereo CD/tape outputs
  • CD/tape inputs assignable to main mix or control room/phones outputs
  • Long-wearing 60-mm logarithmic-taper fader and sealed rotary controls

This is a good deal. I use it for my acoustic trio. Upright electric bass and bass guitar through a Behringer bass EQ pedal or clean, two separate acoustic guitars ready (for when the percussionist plays rhythm), two hand percussion kit overheads, three vocals. Still left over inputs for the occasional bass drum and other stuff if needed. Has an input for MP3 during the break. Easy to run monitors as long as everyone is satisfied with the same mix. Sounds really good. Reverbs are typical for built in effects. Just good enough. I wouldn't record them, just wet the signal enough to keep it from being bone dry. Past that, they sound pretty cheesy like all the other boards. Another weakness I haven't seen others mention is that the power adapter attaches with tiny pins instead of the sturdy 'computer' style input most boards have. These are easy to break and the adapter is not marked well. I used white paint to mark the arrow on the top side so I would accidentally jam the pins in the wrong way. It doesn't seat well either once it is attached. That being said, I use it with powered speakers. That way, you could go as big as you wanted with this little board and get huge speakers and still have a simple set up that thrashes. Right now, I use two 15"s and don't have any trouble with medium size clubs. We have some big "two man" Mackies to drag out for the bigger gigs. I have had 0 problems in 3 years. Easy set up, which saves time, frustration and makes money. As cheap as they are, I've thought of buying a backup for the road, but never have needed it. We carried a much bigger 16 channel Mackie and all the outboard nonsense. It broke down and we couldn't get parts or service, even through MF. The difference in sound live isn't noticeable in the average venue to 99% of the audience. Spend $2500 on an Allen Heath and get that last 1%. If you're good players, nobody cares.

Ok, to the point . . . had this for about 2 years, very light duty (home stuff), sounds good, effects good, but after about 8 months one of the volume knobs developed a bad connection, and others began sounding 'scratchy' when adjusted. The pots (internal adjustable capacitors) are sealed, and cant be cleaned. Headphone out also lost it's left side output.

A great upgrade from the 802

By Simon

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1202FX Mixer:

I ran out of inputs on my 802 with which I was using a DR400 delay/reverb pedal or sometimes the effects on a Spider Line 6 guitar amp. Now I have plenty of spare inputs for my more rarely used instruments, and though these many new included effects lack fine tuning the amount of effect each input can be finely controlled. Adjusting the effect amount on the 802 seemed to only increase the gain on the channel. I love having a more stable flange and phaser than what the amp allowed, and the pitch shifted added voices from the mixer along with the sub octave oscillators on my mono synths can almost produce full chords or at least allow the secondary oscillators to perform additional functions.

Perfect for an acoustic act with a small PA.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1202FX Mixer:

Perfect for my act's purposes (one guitar, 2 microphones, plugged into a Bose L1 PA system). The ability to get this mixer at its price helped me choose the Bose over the Fishman which had some tone controls.

Great small format mixer. I use it mainly for a sub-mix to send to the main board. I have used several of the small Behringer mixers with no problems.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 1202FX Mixer:

I have two of these. Too much work to unhook everything from my home studio and take the little mixer to play a one night gig, so I bought a second unit. I have used the first one for three years with no issues.
