I owned an earlier version of this for many years. I initially bought it to enchance my old 4-track cassette recorder, and it made a WORLD of difference. For one thing, I could use condenser microphones - the built-in phantom power alone was worth the price. But I also noticed that it was pushing an audibly better signal onto the tape. I gave it to a friend who was putting together a studio, and instantly missed it.
This time around I'm using the newer model, not only in the studio but also for a mini-PA mixer for coffehouse gigs. I bought a small powered monitor, and run this into it. I can use my good condenser microphone, and carry my PA in one hand - with the mixer in the gig bag!
It's got TONS of connectivity. The engineers have thought of everything. Just about anything you can think of, you can find a way to do. This little gadget is a real problem solver.
All of the most-used basic features of a much bigger mixer. A jewel in the studio, and it also can be a mixer for a mini-PA!
It appears to be as well-made as it is well-thought-out.
It's a great little multi-tool to have around, for less money than a heavy-duty mic stand.

The compact size of this mixer is great for the home studio artist. However the model lacks some needed features. There isn't a power switch... that's right, NO POWER SWITCH!! Leaving it hooked up is not an option since you cannot EVER turn it off without unplugging it. The unit is also missing a Phantom Power on/off switch, leaving the XLR port hot 100% of the time needless to say this is NOT a good idea.
My final problem with the 502 is the unit I recieved is that it had unfinished edges on the molded plastic, leaving them razor sharp! I had to rub these areas flat with another piece of plastic to make it safe to handle. Because of the unfinished edges and some other defects, the plastic end caps do not seat flush to the metal frame and looks really bad.
In spite of all the above, it does perform as it should and does provide a budget solution.
However, I feel this piece of equipment is poorly designed and constructed and I wish I had bought something different - I will be replacing this one soon with a model that has a power switch, phantom switch, and better constructed.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer:
I use this mixer at home to practice along with an iPod either to headphones or to my Mackie monitors. One day the left channel cut out. After extensive troubleshooting I determined the left RCA input quit. Since I didn't register the product online, I am out of the 90 day warranty. You get what you pay for, I guess...

Comments about Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer:
using a very basic amp with a line out and HD280 pro sennheisers, this is a great way to practice in the apartment, jam along with mp3's and youtube. Incidentally, makes my rather basic computer's audio sound a hundred times better.
Can't go wrong for this price.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer:
I would have gave it 5 stars if it had a on/off switch. Works great for my guitar pedal and computer. Just plug them in and put on your headphones and practice and the wife doesn't tell me to turn it down anymore. Works great. Great sound with lots of volumn if you need it
Comments about Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer:
Totally satisfied with this product.
I purchased this mixer for my computer to help raise my voice for a cd that I was doing & I was totally amazed at how much it helped. I would recommend this mixer to anyone who asked about one.
It is one of the best little mixer's I ever used.
The price was within my range of what I could afford right now so that was an added bonus
Comments about Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer:
Worked great "right out of the box".
Has everything I need.
Nice design and layout. Seems solid construction.
The best value out there for the money.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer:
I purchased this along with a pair of powered studio monitors so I can easily run my various sources through them. I'm somewhat disappointed with the power supply. Not only is there no power switch, but the connection needs to be better secured, being that this is such a small piece of gear. After 4 hours of use, I've already knocked the connector halfway out- which nearly damaged my new monitors. The power indicator LED is pretty much the same ultra-bright blue component that sits in the middle of my 32-Channel Allen & Heath. It'd be better suited to a high-end gaming PC case.
Comments about Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer:
I bought 3 of these guys to use as monitor mixers for my studio. They work for my application, but there too much noise present to use for any recording, also it seems to cut all of the really high and really low frequencies. Just terrible quality sound through it. Buy a mackie or alesis if you are going to record through it.
