OVERVIEW

A great enhancement for your computer recording interface!

The Behringer XENYX 802 Mixing Console has 8 inputs and an FX send control for each channel. Assignable CD/tape inputs have been incorporated for routing flexibility.
Behringer's innovative and affordable XENYX mixers provide the home recordist and club musician with pristine sound quality and cutting-edge features for very little outlay. The XENYX Mic Preamp approaches the sound quality, transparency, headroom, and even the dynamic range of boutique-style, standalone mic preamps. Behringer's neo-classic "British EQ" brings back the warmth and musicality of those '60s and '70s mega-console desks that made music history.

FEATURES
  • Premium ultra low-noise, high headroom analog audio mixer
  • 2 state-of-the-art XENYX Mic Preamps comparable to standalone boutique preamps
  • Neo-classic "British" 3-band EQs for warm and musical sound
  • 1 post fader FX send per channel for external FX devices
  • 1 stereo aux return for FX applications or as separate stereo input
  • Main mix outputs plus separate control room, phones and stereo CD/tape outputs
  • CD/tape inputs assignable to main mix or control room/phones outputs

Now you don't need a big budget for sound excellence. Order today!

This is an inexpensive mixer that does a good job. The controls all work well and the layout is easy to decipher and deal with on a continuing basis. The quality of the product is surprisingly good considering the selling price. The circuit board is a little on the thin side but is made of reasonably strong material and the parts are well soldered (by machine). The cabinet is steel and is again well laid out with the controls not too close together allowing easy access.

There are a couple of points that should be considered before purchasing the unit. Do not subject the mixer to severe shocks or place pressure on the knobs as they are not supported by the chassis but rather the circuit board which could crack under undue pressure. Better designed mixers place a shoulder at the bottom of the knobs which contact the metal chassis and thus do not put excess pressure on the board. This however, will only come into play if excessive force is put on the knobs.

The purchaser will notice the absense of an on-off switch which is a bother as the only way to
shut off the machine is to unplug the unit. This should be accomplished by removing the plug from the wall (mains) not by unplugging the connecter at the back of the machine. The connector used is not made to be continuously handled in this manner. Because of the design of the circuitry, which in corporates a center tapped AC transformer, the usual DC wall rat plug is not used but rather a cheap three prong plug which is not suited to continuous use. Including an on off switch would eliminate this problem as would the use of a better plug assembly.

Other than these two points this unit does a good job off providing good sound, equalization and flexability at a very affordable price.

The GOOD: well built steel case, rugged unit, good mic preamps, 4 sets of British EQs, doesn't take up much space in your gig bag or performance area.
The BAD: Behringer is infamous for power supplies burning out in 12 to 18 months time and for me always in the middle of a gig. Because of the ridiculous pin connection to the unit, no other manufacturer sells a power supply that is compatible. Do yourself a favor and just order a replacement now as they aren't too expensive. Next, the bottom gain controls are NOT supported by the case but merely the circuit board inside. Over time they will bend, get static, cut in and out and make that channel useless. I keep switching input channels until there are no good ones left.
Conclusion: I bother with these known shortcomings as the price point is excellent and the unit does a great job with vocals and background music for my small bar trivia events. After going through 2 or 3 power supplies, the unit has a lifespan of about 3 to 4 years with weekly use.

More than happy!

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

First of all, it's a low price mixer. I get a kick out of some reviews that slam this product. For the price, it has more features than some other higher priced units. I'm a believer in Beheringer products and I have a professional recording studio. I've heard some "high end" systems with the same problems that some complain about. Thank to Beheringer for giving us affordable products. If you want to spend more....do it. I have no complaints.

Horrible Audio Quality

By Anthony Riddle

from Texas

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

This mixer is a complete waste of cash: There is a very loud fuzz that is cleary heard in recordings, and the preamps are absolutely horrid. The EQ works fine I suppose, but you just can't get past that static. I have tried many different cables and mics without a change in quality. A friend also has purchased one recently, and it had the exact same problem. The LED meter is unhelpful, part of the unit is made with cheap plastic (the mixer has been known to melt/catch fire), and it's wobbly.
Just stay away from this.

musician and sound reinforcment

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

The product would have been easier to transport if it had everything in one unit, because of
the transformer I have accidentally left it on the power strip during tear down and luckily
the other band members saw it and asked that anyone is missing a transformer.
Since I've only owned this mixer for abour three years and probably used it a dozen times it should have broken so soon. VERY UNRELIABLE...
unreliable features, needs to be redesign in the engineering department, so the unit can be
reliable.
right channel overheated and completely lost the right channel during a DJ job.

channel two has alot of hiss sound and it has gotten worst and that was without an input.

channel one is alot quieter, but still noisy.
I don't recommend this product to anyone, unless they plan to throw money out the window.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

I was in need of a small mixer with two phantom-powered XLR inputs. I bought this strictly for using four mics to capture my drums and send the stereo sum to my Tascam 8-track recorder. It works like a champ for this application. I will use this and a small power amp for my acoustic performances. The flexible output routing makes a very versatile little mixer. The only con is that there is no on/off switch, which I get around by plugging it into a switched power strip. A good deal all the way around.

Nice piece of gear. Works great for my small dinner gig. Had a little trouble with a misunderstanding with the phone rep and ended up with one that wouldn't fit my needs and musicians friend fixed the problem so fast , I had the wrong one back and the right on at my home within two days! Great job. Thanks folks!

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

Definitely a great little mixer. The only thing I would add would be a power (on/off) button. Everything else is great! I use it with my computer based recording setup and it fits nicely. Preamps sound great - no noise or anything. If it broke, I would definitely buy it again.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

Quality made, reasonable price, great sound. This is one great mixer. I will look to Behringer again for my sound needs.
Very good sound quality and solid built. Could use an on/off switch but if that's everyone's only complaint it's got to be good. I can easily dial in the sound I want and thru my powered speaker it sounds great.
Easy to use, great sound. What more do you want from an 8 channel mixer.
For this price, the quality and value are hard to beat. If you need a small (8 channel) non-powered mixer that is easy to use, quality made and reasonably priced then you need this mixer.
