OVERVIEW

A great enhancement for your computer recording interface!

The Behringer XENYX 802 Mixing Console has 8 inputs and an FX send control for each channel. Assignable CD/tape inputs have been incorporated for routing flexibility.
Behringer's innovative and affordable XENYX mixers provide the home recordist and club musician with pristine sound quality and cutting-edge features for very little outlay. The XENYX Mic Preamp approaches the sound quality, transparency, headroom, and even the dynamic range of boutique-style, standalone mic preamps. Behringer's neo-classic "British EQ" brings back the warmth and musicality of those '60s and '70s mega-console desks that made music history.

FEATURES
  • Premium ultra low-noise, high headroom analog audio mixer
  • 2 state-of-the-art XENYX Mic Preamps comparable to standalone boutique preamps
  • Neo-classic "British" 3-band EQs for warm and musical sound
  • 1 post fader FX send per channel for external FX devices
  • 1 stereo aux return for FX applications or as separate stereo input
  • Main mix outputs plus separate control room, phones and stereo CD/tape outputs
  • CD/tape inputs assignable to main mix or control room/phones outputs

Now you don't need a big budget for sound excellence. Order today!

This is an inexpensive mixer that does a good job. The controls all work well and the layout is easy to decipher and deal with on a continuing basis. The quality of the product is surprisingly good considering the selling price. The circuit board is a little on the thin side but is made of reasonably strong material and the parts are well soldered (by machine). The cabinet is steel and is again well laid out with the controls not too close together allowing easy access.

There are a couple of points that should be considered before purchasing the unit. Do not subject the mixer to severe shocks or place pressure on the knobs as they are not supported by the chassis but rather the circuit board which could crack under undue pressure. Better designed mixers place a shoulder at the bottom of the knobs which contact the metal chassis and thus do not put excess pressure on the board. This however, will only come into play if excessive force is put on the knobs.

The purchaser will notice the absense of an on-off switch which is a bother as the only way to
shut off the machine is to unplug the unit. This should be accomplished by removing the plug from the wall (mains) not by unplugging the connecter at the back of the machine. The connector used is not made to be continuously handled in this manner. Because of the design of the circuitry, which in corporates a center tapped AC transformer, the usual DC wall rat plug is not used but rather a cheap three prong plug which is not suited to continuous use. Including an on off switch would eliminate this problem as would the use of a better plug assembly.

Other than these two points this unit does a good job off providing good sound, equalization and flexability at a very affordable price.

Gain controls and Power Supplies Fail Constantly

The GOOD: well built steel case, rugged unit, good mic preamps, 4 sets of British EQs, doesn't take up much space in your gig bag or performance area.
The BAD: Behringer is infamous for power supplies burning out in 12 to 18 months time and for me always in the middle of a gig. Because of the ridiculous pin connection to the unit, no other manufacturer sells a power supply that is compatible. Do yourself a favor and just order a replacement now as they aren't too expensive. Next, the bottom gain controls are NOT supported by the case but merely the circuit board inside. Over time they will bend, get static, cut in and out and make that channel useless. I keep switching input channels until there are no good ones left.
Conclusion: I bother with these known shortcomings as the price point is excellent and the unit does a great job with vocals and background music for my small bar trivia events. After going through 2 or 3 power supplies, the unit has a lifespan of about 3 to 4 years with weekly use.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

Power plug does not work; unit intermittently shuts off. This problem with Behringer has been described by others. Although MF delivery was, as always, prompt and free, since I purchased an open box item, MF should have checked the quality/function before shipping. I will not buy another Behringer product. I will also have to pay return shipping. Caveat emptor.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

I bought 3 of these to add to my collection of small Behringer boards for use with our bands IEMs. We realized that all four of us are tethered to either a pedal board or drummers throne, and there really was no need for RF IEMs. Instead, we opted to have better control of what's in our ears without spending gobs of money. We now feed 2 auxs to each board (Band and Vocals) and the remaining inputs are a variety of tailored signals for each performer. Can't beat it for the cost. Someday we'll probably upgrade to one of the wireless boards with phone/pad control to feed things, but we'll probably keep these mini boards for studio and rehearsal.

I bought this thinking it had fx installed. Should have known better. It does allow me to attach my fx pedal to it and it works well. Plenty of controls for the sound/volume your looking for. I'd recommend this to a friend.

Comments about Behringer XENYX 802 Mixer:

I have been using this model for several years. It is perfect for connecting to a house sound system and playing/mixing my own music for performance purposes. The only negative is that the power cord plug and unit plug has a tendency to wear out. It is very portable and space efficient.

While it is small, this 802 mixer should be considered for its size, versatility, and the price! Many different ways to use this thing! Note: the 7-8 tracks go through the stereo aux inputs. I use this to record a live band practice into a two track protools setup, but the ideas to use this thing are endless. Also I would consider this an essential tool in someone's collection of music equipment. Is it a super high end board? No!! However this has tons of features, quality, and more importantly functionality. five stars

I was in need of a small mixer with two phantom-powered XLR inputs. I bought this strictly for using four mics to capture my drums and send the stereo sum to my Tascam 8-track recorder. It works like a champ for this application. I will use this and a small power amp for my acoustic performances. The flexible output routing makes a very versatile little mixer. The only con is that there is no on/off switch, which I get around by plugging it into a switched power strip. A good deal all the way around.
