OVERVIEW

8 Inputs, and a USB audio interface built-in.

The Behringer XENYX Q802USB mixer is made to handle live gigs, and provide you with the required tools necessary to capture professional-quality recordings. Along with its built-in USB/audio interface, and "one-knob" mono channel compressor, the XENYX Q802USB mixer comes with enough recording and editing software to turn your computer into a complete recording studio. The second-most compact of the XENYX Q Series, the 8-input, 2-bus XENYX Q802USB has two phantom-powered XENYX mic preamps, making it possible to use up to two dynamic and/or studio-grade condenser mics. Onboard 3-band British EQ makes it easy to fine-tune any input signal and is available on both the mic and stereo channels. Another feature exclusive to the Q802USB is an FX Send control per channel, allowing you to use an external effects processor to add the finishing touch to your performance or recording. RCA CD/Tape I/O comes standard on all XENYX mixers.

XENYX Mic Preamps
All XENYX mixers have one thing in common; great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. XENYX preamps offer 130dB of dynamic range with a bandwidth that extends from below 10Hz to well above 200kHz. As a result, XENYX mixers can reproduce a cleaner, transparent performance.

British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ˜70s changed the sound of rock and roll. Without them, the British Invasion might not have even happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQs on all XENYX mixers are based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to saturate signals with warmth and character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit forgiveness and superb audio quality.

USB Audio Interface
Modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. But how do you get all that music flying around your brain into a computer? Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable. Now any signal source connected to the mixer can be recorded straight to your hard drive.

Included Software
Behringer has put together a massive software download that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). You're ready to go live on your PC or Mac right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio.

FEATURES
  • Low noise, high headroom 8-input 2-bus analog mixer
  • 2 Quality XENYX Mic Preamps
  • High-quality compressors with easy "one-knob" functionality and control LED
  • Built-in stereo USB/Audio Interface to connect directly to your computer

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q802USB Mixer:

I'm a 10-year professional audio engineer and musician. Needed a little mixer for live/field applications so I was tempted by the Xenyx because of it's incredible features: compression, aux sends, 3-band EQ, phantom and USB interface. I liked Behringer's Eurorack range well enough, so I thought I'd take a chance on the Xenyx.

Everything this mixer attempts to do, it does quite badly. The pre-amps are noisy and very hot - the compression works but is not very nice, the EQ is fine. But the mixer I got was just noisy, even with nothing in any channel and all the pots down it emitted a loud hiss. Even worse was the USB connection - the set up was great, plugged it in to a PC and Windows 7 installed the drivers. Tested it directly into Adobe Audition (the only DAW I had handy) and the hiss was even louder. More troubling was that when panning channels via USB, left kills the signal completely, and right overloads the output. I'm guessing the panning circuits are from another model with busses and they didn't bother to configure it for USB. The analog-digital conversion sounded okay, but hard to judge with all the hiss.

The unit I received also had some power issues - the power adapter plug didn't fit very well into the unit and the power crackled and blinked out. The compressor pot on channel 2 did the same thing, crackling and making the power intermittent.

BUT - I would recommend this to anyone starting out in audio - for a very low price it gives you a lot of functionality that you'd be hard-pressed to find on a board twice it's price. Its not professional, but its got all the features of a large pro board.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q802USB Mixer:

10-year audio engineer - needed a small mixer for PA and demo recording.

This mixer promises a lot, and does nothing very well. The pre-amps are okay, but noisy - the compressor stage is pretty terrible sounding - the EQ is okay.

Mine had some quality issues right out of the box - the power cable has hinky and when I wiggled it the power was intermittent. The compressor pot on channel 2 did the same thing and cut out the power. Worst of all was the USB connection - though it was easy to set up (literally plugged it in and Windows 7 hooked it up) - the sound was horrible - tons of hiss even with nothing plugged in and all levels on zero. Also noted that when tracking to DAW, the channel pan controls didn't work - pan left cut all sound, pan right overloaded the signal. I presume the circuitry was borrowed from another board with bus funtionality - weird oversight.

If you're desperate for a mixer and can't afford a separate converter, this is a tempting option - recommended for beginners and those on extreme budgets. Just hope it works out of the box!

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q802USB Mixer:

This is a fantastic mixer at this price point. If you're thinking about home recording, this is a great first purchase. I've got mine set up with two analog monosynths going into the mono jacks, a stereo modeling synth going into one of the stereo inputs, and a tablet running Caustic going into the other stereo input. It works great, produces great sound, and works great with Audacity. My only complaint is something that may be my own fault - The mix is obviously stereo, but it only sends as Mono through USB. On the one hand, this is helpful if I want a click track in my right ear while playing - I pan the drums all the way to the right and then they won't come through on the recording. But it means all your panning and stereo effects have to be done in your DAW. If I'm playing live, with the monosynth panned left and the tablet panned right, it will sound great coming out of the speakers, but the recording won't capture any of the panning.

This is especially a problem with ping-pong delay.

It's possible that I've missed something obvious, but I haven't figured this out.

This mixer is a piece of junk! The power cord keeps falling out and now the mixer stops working after about 5 mins. I just received this a week ago. I would not recommend Behringer products. They are cheap and you definitely get what you pay for.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx Q802USB Mixer:

There are only a couple things I would change. First, the level of the mic preamp pots are difficult to read because they are solid black. I should probably paint the flag on the knob. I think a 4 bar LED VU meter is a joke, so more resolution there would be good. I'm using the Q802USB with MXL 67 series mics and a small condenser instrument mic and the sound is very clean and there is plenty of gain. There is a few hundred milliseconds of lag over USB but I expected that. People have complained about the power connector. It's a standard 3-pin DIN - just make sure you insert it all the way, like 1/4 inches and the fit is very secure. You don't want to twist it around too much trying to line it up because it's possible to bend a pin. Replacements are inexpensive at a sawbuck. I would rather have the transformer external than internal - for one thing you don't need to ground the chassis, and the unit is lighter and smaller. I would have liked a power switch but I have a switched primary so it really doesn't matter.

This is a small yet very useful mixer. The usb interface option makes hooking up to a laptop great with no hums or noise. (It is a bit of a pain to install the drivers I had to do it in safe mode). I am using it for running a wireless mic and playing music tracks through.
