Blue

Like its insect cousin, the Dragonfly is fast, maneuverable, and beautifully engineered.

The Blue Dragonfly Microphone employs an innovative design to offer you fine tuning and precise placement. The Dragonfly mic will please the most discerning recordist. Combines ease of use that is without equal among contemporary microphones with a price that is considerably less than anything in its class. The Dragonfly mic is winner of both the 2001 TEC Award and an Electronic Musician's 2001 Editor's Choice award.

The Dragonfly is a unique pressure-gradient cardioid condenser microphone, employing Blue's hand-built single-membrane large-diaphragm capsule coated with a 6-micron mylar film of pure gold and aluminum. Enclosed within a rotating spherical grille, the capsule can be positioned and adjusted in the smallest spaces. Complete with an integrated elastic shockmount, the microphone's electronics are based on a Class-A discrete circuit, with a transformerless output. The Dragonfly mic's sonic character gives flight to everything from vocals to percussion, electric guitar and bass, as well as more difficult sources such as saxophones and stringed instruments.
Requires phantom power.

I've been using this in my home studio for several years now for recording demos and midi+audio backing tracks.  I've used it for male and female vocals, steel and nylon string acoustic guitars, drum overheads and micing guitar amps, anything where only a single mic is necessary.  The clarity and detail are terrific, it has a very "sweet" and airy nature. I run it straight into my MOTU A/D preamps and I rarely have to eq it.  It's also robust in construction, it's been on the stand since I got it and gets moved, adjusted and bopped to and fro constantly and I haven't had any problems.  When I look for another studio mic I'll check Blue again first.

I've had this for a year and to be honest it does everything I've asked it to, and done it well. My first application is vocals followed closely by acoustic guitar. It has a "sound" but its a flavor that I like. It even recorded bell tree and Timpani with outstanding detail and a depth that I've never heard without EQ or effects added. Kudos to Blue for making a truly great mic thats easy to adjust and very versatile without sounding sterile. I think it is priced right and compares to more expensive mics in my cabinet, A great overall mic that will not leave you thinking you need more. I use an inexpensive Aphex 207D mic pre with it and it shines. Very quiet and clean and I don't need to EQ except on rare occasions.

I've used this mic for a little over two years, I have recorded a wide variety of different voices and a few acoustic guitars. This mic performs brilliantly. The price is more then good for what you are getting, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good starting point in a home studio, or even for a higher end studio, this mic sounds really great.

The DragonFly's build quality is higher than mics costing much more, and the ability to lock it up on a stand and still adjust (fine tune) the capsule angle is a huge benefit with many performers and instruments. But it's really the sound that sets this BLUE mic apart. Wide open on top, honest sound without being boring, and one of the quietest mics in my collection. I only wish there was a multi pattern version. I run it into a Grace Design mic pre, straight into a 192 interface on ProTools HD and the detail is stunning. Fantastic overhead for drums, great on female voice and acoustic guitar. Very impressive.

Greatest Guitar Mic Since Hendrix

This is one of the greatest guitar mics ever. Used in conjunction with a Shure SM57 you can achieve one of the HUGEST guitar sounds there is. If you need the punchy, in your face, first take, really sweet sounding guitar tone (aside from tweaking your amp) this mic is worth every penny. Don't settle for that flat, and extremely thin sound you get from so many posers mics, get Blue!!
