I got it and set it up. I attempted to put the pop filter on the microphone and the screw would not go into the microphone. I rigged up another old pop filter and was amazed at the sound, it was terrific. I believe the screw should be longer then it would be easier to mount it. Right now I have an expensive microphone without a pop filter.

Great second microphone

Comments about BLUE Spark Studio Microphone:

I do lots of bedroom recording, and for over a year my only condenser microphone was an MXL 990. I used it to record many sources including vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, saxophone, clarinet, and percussion. It got the job done but consistently produced a sort of stale, tinny sound, which led me to start looking for a new condenser once I had the money to buy one.

I researched most of the condenser microphones on this site in the price range; I read all of the reviews, I listened to any sound clips I could find on youtube or elsewhere, and based on the overwhelmingly positive response from Spark owners, I chose the Blue Spark.

After doing a few side-by-side recordings to compare with my MXL 990, it was immediately clear that the Spark was a great decision. "Buttery" is probably the best way I can think to describe its sound. The focus control on the back is a great little feature. I can go straight from recording acoustic guitar with the control disabled to recording vocals with the control enabled instead of having to constantly readjust EQ on my mixer.

The Spark comes in a cool wooden box. The metal shock mount is high quality. I still use another pop filter in front of the small Blue one, as the Blue pop filter doesn't completely do away with plosives. This microphone is acutely sensitive to different positionings. It takes some time to get used to where to place it in relation to any sound source, but once you find a good spot the mic performs wonderfully. Highly recommended for bedroom studio musicians on a budget.

Comments about BLUE Spark Studio Microphone:

if you were on a budget like me, you will not go wrong with this microphone. I got this about 2 months ago and trashed my at2020. The clarity upgrade was ridiculous,It catches the higher frequency on singers i work with very nicely and doesn't take away any presence, It has a great natural tone. To be honest its pretty hard to sound bad with this mic. So Buy it.

Comments about BLUE Spark Studio Microphone:

i've been using a rode nt1000 lately for vocals, and honestly, i like this little guy better. equally as respnsive, but more focused. the rode would litterally pick up my cat meowing across the house. the spark picks up nuance and inflection just as well, without recording all of the unwanted ambient noise that happens to flow in a typical home studio. for anyone looking for an affordable vocal and all around mic, look no further. this mic is hands down the best value you will find in this price range.
what's so fantastic? nothing. no high pass, low pass, db. range selectors, or any of that nonesense. handy little focus control switch but even that doesn't do much. just pure, raw, brutally honest response. the woden box is a nice touch too. and the little panflet that came with it was designed to look like a book of matches (spark). these of course have nothing to do with the mic itself, but it's still pretty cool!
i was skeptical at first just seeing pictures of this thing because the arm holding the diaphram looks really skimpy. but i was supprised to find this thing is actually quite sturdy.
for the price, nothing beats it.

    Dont Have One Yet? WHY?

Comments about BLUE Spark Studio Microphone:

The Blue Mic Spark is one of (if not the) best mics you can purchase for your home studio. I run my Spark (focus button on) through a Presonus Studio Channel with a flat EQ, limiting on the compressor, and less than 5% drive. This signal is fed to a Focusrite Sapphire Pro 24 DSP and with Waves Z-Noise plugin I have no problem getting my vocals to sit on top of any mix. 4 for features because its just the standard feature set, better than a 3 because of the focus button. Quality is a 4.5 only because I have recorded on a Blue Bottle and uh, thats all I need to say. 5 because this mic should be staple to any studio, point blank. 5 overall because like the last statement says, this mic is staple to every studio.

this mic is sterdy stylish and shit hot everything i would look for in a mic... the pop filter was garbage but i have another one so i didnt worry to much about it i still leave it on as a secondary pop filter and i hang my mic upside down which makes the shock mount work without flaw....i would recomend this mic to anyone who is looking for a go to mic who is on a budget....
i really wasnt very impressed by the focus button the difference is very sutle but it was unnecesary for my use of it any way
BUY THIS MIC. its amazing for the price this is as good as ur going to get
i cant speek enough about how well this mic has served the perpose i need'd it for. i record hiphop music and this mic is crisp and clear and the only eq work i have to do it a high and low pass filter to sharpen it alittle

    Awesome Mic

    By Nick-dsGHO

Comments about BLUE Spark Studio Microphone:

Love the mic. I use it with an M-Audio MobilePre right into Logic 9 for vocals. Sounds oh so very crisp. I love the "focus button", which, when pressed - gives you a much more ...well ...focused sound (for more busy choruses, etc). Also comes with a handy booklet that gives some techniques on using the mic to record other various instruments (acoustic guitar, etc). Definately happy with this mic!

There were some other reviews on here that got deleted? Anyway I like the focus feature. Sounds a lot better than my old MXL 990.
I am only rating this an eight because the mount is kind of cheesy.

Comments about BLUE Spark Studio Microphone:

I bought this as a broken microphone, but all that was wrong was the headbasket mesh came off. It looks like their superglue failed, I can easily apply my own. Other that that it works perfectly.

Did a quick test recording (with the headbasket taped back on), and was pleasantly surprised with how it recorded my Gibson Songwriter Studio acoustic guitar. I usually use either a JZ/Violet VIN26 or a Neumann TLM102 depending on the song. The Spark was in the ballpark, and if I didn't have those other two (and more expensive) mics I'd probably go to the Spark every time. It's missing some of the detail of those other mics.

It's a great deal at retail price, my "broken" one was even less. Glad I took the chance.

I've been using this mic for more than a year now and I can say that I've never been disappointed by how it sounded. It captures the natural resonance of my low-mid range male voice and can accurately reproduce exactly what I'm going for when I'm doing a voice for a character. I've knocked the thing around a little bit but it's still as shiny and perfect as the day I got it. There's nothing I would change about this mic.

This mic is a great value. I used to own an AT mic and loved it. I sold it and ended up needing another mic. I chose the Blue Spark because I know Blue is a trusted name for the microphone industry. Rather than go with a brand that's main line is affordable, I went with a company who creates high-end mic's, and chose their affordable line. They know how to make quality, and they wouldn't skip out on that while making a more home-studio friendly mic. I've enjoyed it since I've had it, and I'm sure I will enjoy it for a long time. Its a great little mic with a big sound!

Comments about BLUE Spark Studio Microphone:

This mic came as quite a shock to me: It's Great!
I had low expectations of a mic at this price.
But I was impressed. It's quiet, clean, with a strong output level with low noise.
What's not to like? (The looks, I guess, which are kind of tacky, IMO)
On vocals it has plenty of detailed high end. Maybe a little crisp - but that can be controlled with EQ in the preamp or DAW.
I did some A/B recordings agains the Reactor and Blueberry, and could not tell which was which.
You may not get the low end you need for other sounds, so this is not a "do-it-all" mic. But that's OK. We all need more than one mic...
Save your money toward a good preamp and get this mic, instead of spending a bundle on more high end products.

I have used this mic for a couple years only because I haven't had the budget to get a better one. It picks up all the background noise you don't want (air conditioning, etc) and none of the details of the sound source that you do want. I used it primarily for vocals and it worked so-so on female vocals but it's worthless on male vocals. I tried miking an acoustic guitar with it but I could hear myself breathing over the strumming of the guitar...ridiculous.

Comments about BLUE Spark Studio Microphone:

I'm always looking for that low priced gem, and I have to say for $200 bucks this is a great mic. I've mainly used it for Vocals so far and I have to say it works well. I've tried modding cheap mics, and trying out different preamps, and I've never been as happy with the result of this mic. Depending on the vocalist it can be a little sibilant, but far from harsh or edgy. This mic is definitely one to begin your mic collection with!!
