OVERVIEW

Sweet vocal capture!

The CAD e300 is a Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone that captures transparent, airy uppers and mids, coupled with a rich, silky smooth low end. Combining lightning-fast transient response and pinpoint precision with an enormous upfront presence, the e300 offers uparalleled performance from critical studio tracking scenarios to live reinforcement. The 1.1" 24K gold-sputtered dual-diaphragm condenser capsule is hand dampened for consistent frequency response. A hi-pass filter features 6dB octave @ 80Hz, and a 20dB non-capacitive pad. The stainless/brass triple stage pop/EMI filter delivers unmatched ballistic stability, with high SPL characteristics and plosives control. Sophisticated laser trimmed op-amp circuitry provides increased management of fast transient response. Frequency response of 10Hz-20 kHz.
Requires phantom power.

Super fast transients, excellent open, non hyped sound

Comments about CAD e300 Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone:

I used the mic to record live acoustic ensembles and compared it to other mics. The mic has a very transparent neutral sound with really no electronic coloration. This allows the recording to have a smooth natural sound. The fast transient response and dynamic range resulting in the high power op amps helps the mic capture macro and micro dynamics and renders a recording with more texture and detail than other mics I use. The mic does produce a bit of extra openness but the sound is natural sounding, not hyped.
This microphone is unusual in that it has ultra fast op amps powered by phantom power and 2 on board 9 volt batteries charged by phantom power.

This allows the mic to use a much more sophisticated laser trimmed op amp with a very punchy power supply.

The mic also has selectable patterns, and a 20 db pad.
The design is unique. The microphone is large, very well made, and heavy (due to the internal power supply)
I own some Shure KSM, AT 4050a, SM81s and several models of CADs. They are all excellent but the CAD is about the best value I see.

Top shelf for less than $400.

Comments about CAD e300 Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone:

The CAD e300 is an outstanding value. Multi-pattern, transformerless output and very low noise are difficult to find in a mic at this price. The sound? Let me say that I've owned Neumann 87, 67 and AKG 414 so, I know a great sounding mic when I hear one. Is the e300 the equal of the 87 or 67? - no, not exactly. The sonic character is closer to the 414 and NOTHING will sound like a 67 other than a 67!! I would say that for he price you can't beat it. I've had 3 CAD models and they all perform 100%. Great deal. Buy one before the price goes up!

Its a really good mic for the price!

Comments about CAD e300 Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone:

Its heavy because of the internal rechargeable batteries. But those batteries are needed for the op amp in the mic, the phantom power might not deliver enough current power to drive the mic.I like the sound of the e300 and the build quality is also good (no problems yet)

Solid Microphone

By Scott-zIxFw

Comments about CAD e300 Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone:

Not a lot of reviews on this actual CAD e300 Equitek that I've seen, so hopefully this one will help you decide. In summary: Go for it! I feel very good about this purchase, and have had the mic since December of '06. I do voice-over production from home, and this gives me the sound I need to get the job done. Nice range. It's a solid step up, a few steps up, from my MXL 909 (which did the job, but was a starter mic to be sure). This mic give a nice, warm sound with a great range, and many attenuation options...maybe a little overkill on the options. The power thing is odd, but just leave it plugged in to your system and you won't ever think about it. It is a bit heavy, and the whole setup is unique, no doubt. That's part of what makes it special. It's definitely "its own mic" and has its own sonic-identity. But it's a good one. Don't know if I'd pay anywhere near list for it. Fortunately, none of us have to. Pro: It's very heavy, and that tells me that it's put together solid. Great sound. Con: It's very heavy, and has a funky setup with the angle that the mic rests...make sure your stand is up to the task. For this kind of list price, I should have gotten a killer case with gold-leaf around the edges...not really into the bulky, molded, plastic deal for a mic that lists at $700! That's a bit chincy. Not a big deal to me in the bigger picture. Whatever you think or thought of CAD will take on new meaning with the e300 Equitek!

Skip this mic

Comments about CAD e300 Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone:

This microphone has a very harsh and crunchy high end. There is and off/switch that is a pain to mess with. It's very heavy compared to other condensers, the shock mount is awkward. I expected it to have a smooth high end with a little airy boost but found it unusable so I returned it.

CAD is my Secret Weapon

By Anonymous

Comments about CAD e300 Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone:

If you've been searching for an innovatively engineered, sonically vivid and balanced vocal mic that cost a lot less than it should. Here is you mic. Here is you mic company. No kidding. And I've got no connection with CAD. I'm just a sonically critical engineer whose ears, not brand hype, made the judgement. The much cheaper CAD M179, with its infinitely variable polar pattern is probably the best value in a vocal mic out there--PERIOD. If you've got a micro budget, get the M179 and fine tune the pattern to make it just the sonic character you crave. Either mic is great for the money. (the Blue Baby Bottle is also a accurate neutral sounding honorable mention value--All three mics are favorites amongst those I own.
