Take your productions to new horizons.
Cakewalk has taken their famous SONAR recording software and enhanced it with over 100 new features that set a new standard for the studio production environment. Includes a completely redesigned intuitive user interface, innovative mixing capabilities, universal bus architecture, and advanced MIDI routing.
SONAR3 Producer's Dynamic Console View has been totally remade with unlimited mixing capability, realtime effects and synths, effects sends, and buses. All parameters can be automated on screen or via remote hardware. Integrated 6-band-per-channel parametric EQ.
Universal Bus Architecture now includes completely configurable, dynamic busing capabilities. Buses can be used for effects sends, master buses, output to different monitor or headphone mixes. You can route buses to other buses or main outputs, insert buses and sends on the fly, pre or post fader. There is even a per-track input monitoring switch.
SONAR3 Studio takes the art of groove-looping to the limit. ACID-format audio loops and MIDI clips can be ported between programs. Features ideal for DJ or loop composition include on-the-fly beat matching with loops following the pitch and tempo of your projects with no degradation of audio. Patch effects, trim audio, and roll out loops without disrupting playback.
Includes CycloneDXi, a 16-part ACID-compatible phrase sampler and loop composition tool.
Enhanced MIDI routing and synth layering let you play multiple synths from one controller, route multiple controllers to multiple synths or MIDI devices, create custom drum maps, and save presets of favorite MIDI configurations.
SONAR's editing offers unparalleled power and versatility with multitrack piano roll and drum editor with polyphonic rhythmic pattern brush. Also offers event list with display filtering and nondestructive MIDI editing and mixing with 13 realtime MIDI effects.
The new Pantheon features classic Lexicon reverbs known throughout the recording world for their excellence. With 35 factory presets and 6 reverb types, plus full editing capability, you have a first-class effects unit at your service.
Ultrafunk Channel EQ is a 6-band parametric equalizer with 5 filter types that are individually selectable for each band. A filter graph can visually shape EQ curves and effects controls. This makes for better separation in your tracks and more dynamic mixes.
The Ultrafunk Sonitus:fx Suite of automated effects are another Producer edition exclusive, with compression, delay, equalizer, gate, modulator, multiband, phase, reverb, surround, and wah.
VSampler 3.0 DXi is a powerful digital sampler that offers extensive editing and is extremely easy to use. Supports industry standards including AKAI (CD, .PRG, .AKP), SoundFonts (.SF2), HALion (.FXB), Downloadable Samples (.DLS), WAV, and AIF.
Support for VST effects and instruments. Multiport MT and MIDI sync transmission. Runs on Windows 2000, Windows XP is recommended.
Free SONAR 3.1 Update
The SONAR 3.1 Update is now available as a free download for registered SONAR 3 customers at http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/31update.asp
HyperThreading/multiprocessor optimization-- SONAR's audio engine distributes mixing tasks across multiple CPU's when using multiprocessor PCs
Support for any sample rate, with presets for most common sample rates--you can now set SONAR's project sample rate to any sample rate supported by your hardware. For sample rates not supported by presets simply type in any value supported by your audio device, e.g., 88.2kHz, 176.4kHz, 192kHz, 384kHz, etc
All of the Sonitus:fx plug-ins and the Lexicon Pantheon Reverb run at 192KHz sample rate
High-quality sample rate conversion when importing and exporting audio--SONAR now utilizes the ultra high-quality Windowed Sinc resampler algorithm
Placeholders for missing plug-ins--if any plug-ins are detected as missing when loading a project, SONAR will create a temporary "placeholder" plug-in. This allows you to edit projects without losing any references to missing plug-ins, and SONAR will automatically load missing plug-ins the next time they are detected as being installed.
Adjustable EQ Plot Resolution via the Plot Show/Hide button in the Console view (Producer Edition only): Auto (default), +/-6, +/-12 , +/-18.
Increased tempo range--maximum tempo has been increased to 1,000BPM.
Play List view has been restored to SONAR 3
Reset All Meters command (will clear all meter clips and reset all numeric peak values in all views simultaneously for all meters)
"Fit Tracks to Window" and "Fit Project to Window" commands now work in Bus pane when it is the active view
All toolbars can now be shown/hidden via key bindings
StudioMix control surface plug-in

The quality of Sonar 3 is unbelievable. The sample rates are unmatched and features are overwhelming.
Great for project studios, MIDI friendly, built in effects processors offer limitless possibilities.
Just upgraded from other software and must say that I really like the layout and features. Comes with a lot of useful effects with a lot of decent sounding presets. Latest patch supports Hyperthreading P4 CPU's and gives you enough of a performance boost to get a few more stereo audio tracks with effects. Interface is simple, have only had to use instructions a few times. Sound quality is great, especially if you order the BBE Sonic Maximizer to go with it. If you are a student, take advantage of their Academic version, which is half off. That increases the value of what you get by double, making this program a steal.
I've been using Sonar since the beginning. With the addition of per track EQ's and the Lexicon FX plug-ins, this baby rocks. I'm using Sonar with a 2.4ghz Carillon computer and I can record both midi and audio for days. This version of Sonar is so rock solid with lots of great sounding effects, I would recommend any one who can't afford Pro Tools to consider this Sonar3. It's just as good. Cakewalk could have included the Timeworks Mastering EQ & Compressor with S3 but I was able to load them off the the S2 disk. Audio and midi editing as a breeze and the new sound engine in S3 is awesome. And the fact that you can import samples into your project and the loop is already set for you is a huge plus.
Sonar 3 is a solid update to Sonar 2, however, it can be rather taxing on slower computers, and drops out frequently. With a completely re-hashed interface, Sonar looks more professional than ever, and with expanded hardware functionality, it seems that Sonar is finally ready to run with the big boys like ProTools and Cubase.
gotta love cakewalk but ya really gotta love this new vrsion of Sonar (producer) Perfect for the professional musician. have not found a problem i couldn't solve with this program. I do have to say that the learning curve is a little steep for beginners; but once you figure it out, there is no holding you back. After using this program i don't think i could ever go back.
