Seems straight-forward enough....hook them up and turn volume up.I have these slab-crackers setup in a finished basement for home listening/theatre use. Here are some points to strongly consider when using them for these applications:1) Due to the nature of a horn speaker you MUST bi-amp. I have a pair of RE-38's on top and due to time-delay characteristics (law of sound physics) the AB-36's need their own amplifier. Most A/V receivers will allow you to set the 'distance' (re:time delay) for each separate speaker.2) Cross-over the subs....again most A/V receivers will have a setting for this. I cross at 80HZ, you can season to taste.3) Break-in. In my experience they need a break-in period of about 30 hrs at a moderate level or better. What a difference! I cannot stress this enough. I did this (without destroying the drywall) by feeding them a sinewave of 8Hz at about 250w in 1 hr sessions. I used the Denon HI-FI CD test disk for this. These horns cutoff around 30Hz so no audible sound was created.Having said all this, there are no louder or clearer sounding subs on the market in this size/price range...period.
Pick this up while you can, the new one has a Stroker sub in it, but it sure doesn't mean this one isn't a serious piece of bass.Mounting points for casters are convenient, easy to roll up and push around once installed.SUPER efficient; even if you don't have a massive amp, this sub will forgive you and still move heaps of air.VERY musical; response for a tuned horned shouldn't be this quick and tight, but it is.
these subs will shake the nails loose from the floor . i power these things with two pevey cs 800 crossed over with dbs crossover ,there great
This is the most severe production PA subwoofer on the planet. The stated frequency range and power handling specs may look comparable to (or less than) others (from JBL et al.), but I am here to tell you that these absolutely obliterate rooms in an incomparable way. Warning, though, you have to be prepared to completely overwhelm and dominate any place you use these, because they are in a class of their own. We were seriously in real disbelief at how loud and low they were. This is the bass of the bassest.
If your in for loud deep bass output while consuming low power, then the ab-36 is for you. At 108db at 1 watt/meter, you already exceed the spl value of a front loaded dual 18 cab. The bass response is most effective with atleast two of these per side. I've heard alot of crap regarding cerwin vegas. "They look cheap", "sound bad", yadda yadda yadda! That's Bull! If you set your system up for folded horns right, then you get amazing results in the low end. Throw a crown 3600vz on it for it is the perfect size, has a high damping factor, and is clean and you will get excellent low end results!
