Great Investment for Band or DJ

Features:

This was my first experience with LED's.  The biggest positive is no more heat or blown circuit breakers to deal with during a gig!  I originally purchased two 4-Bar systems and had to have two more. I now own 4 of them.

I fell in love with how quickly they set up.  One DMX cable and one power cable.  The four lights are already wired to the bar.

My band regularly plays at two local venues, so we have installed "bicycle" hooks in the ceiling (instead of using the stands).  We set up all 4 of our systems in less than 30 minutes and all of the cables are out of the way. For all other gigs, we use the stands and still can set up in under 40 minutes.  We use two in front and two in back.

I recently used a pair of 4-Bars for a DJ Wedding gig and they worked great!

Quality:

All 4 of my systems have worked perfectly every time for the past 2 years!  They are lights and must be treated like you would a favorite guitar.  Keep them in the case when you're not using them and never let them get wet.

Value:

Each 4-Bar comes with case, stand and foot controller for one price.  You can't beat that.

Overall:

The 4-Bar is very easy to operate.  I am able to play bass, sing and work the lights.  I plug them all in at the same time using one as Master and the other 3 as Slaves to have the same color all the way around the stage. The 3-button foot controller is very basic. One trick I did learn (foot controller) is that you can hold down the first button (on left) to go through the settings very quickly. But if you want scene changes with fades, you will need to buy a DMX controller.

4Bar review

| Review By: Timothy Yuettner | 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Features:

Very cool idea.  Fast set up.  Simply operation.

Quality:

The lighting housing is plastic and therefore fragile.  The plastic on the stand is fragile too.  I found one broken upon delivery.  I had three units delivered to me (one to replace the broken stand.) Each one had an issue.  I had to take apart two of the light fixtures to address the connection to the back of the circuit board.  The connector had fallen out of one and the ground pin had come out of the connector on the other.  I was able to fix these issues relatively easily but I shouldn't have had to!  Also, the 4Bar doesn't fit in the case with the set screw, that holds the 4bar in place on the stand, in place.  Bad design!

Value:

I believe it is worth the money, because it is reasonably priced. However, the plastic parts concern me with long-term use. Time will tell.

Overall:

The case for the lights is cool but the bag for stand is pretty cheap.  I really do like this product but there is room for improvement.

Ok system....No tech support

| Review By: Ruffwater1 | 3 months, 3 days ago

Features:

I initially bought 2 of these systems for my small stage set up.  As everybody says...easy set up and easy to run.  But within about 2 months one of the footswitches went out.  Lucky I still had the second system footswitch because I couldn't buy another one without buying the whole system.  Then, one system locked up on white and I have not been able to get anyone with Chauvet or MF to tell me how to reset it without sending the unit in.  So I bought a third system to replace it while I get the locked up system fixed.  BUT....then a second unit locked in white mode within just a couple of weeks.  Again, no help from Chauvet or MF without sending the unit in.  The cost of shipping and repair, along with the down time, make it more cost effective to buy a new system.  But who can afford $400 bucks every 3-4 months?  So....I went back to using my old standby PAR 38 and PAR 46 sytems.  Also, you can't use these systems outside and a great deal of my business occurs outside during the spring and summer months.  While set up and transport is easy, it's not worth the cost when you'll have to replace it or repair it in just a few months.

Quality:

The system is built pretty well, but easily locks up.  The footswitches are plastic and break easily if you use them a lot.  The case it comes in is adequate, but not roadworthy. Also, Chauvet does not provide an adequate manual to tell you how to reset the units.  They want you to send it in for repair.  This makes it cost prohibitive to working bands.

Value:

At $400 bucks, it is a little pricey if you have to repair or replace it every few months.  Don't plan on having it repaired because the shipping costs, repair costs, and down time make it more convenient to just buy another one.

Overall:

I won't buy another one.  My business requires my band to play outside a lot and you can't use these outside.  From now on, I'll put my money into a more professional digital system that can be used in any environment.  Also, the fact that 2 of the 3 units I bought have locked up on white indicates to me that this is going to be a problem for anyone who plans on using these lights more than occasionally.  The cases the lights come in offer good protection, but won't last long if you're using them professionally.
