I'm a solo musician that gigs in dark corners of dark bars. I needed something to add light and color to my stage areas without adding another trip to the car for lighting gear. I'm extremely happy with the Colorstrip Mini so far. First off, the portability is great. Its about 19" long and light as a feather, seems very well constructed too. I just toss it in my gear box with cables, etc. Also, at $100 its an easy investment decision considering what it provides. I just set it on the floor out in front of me, pointed at my chest (the adjustable mounting brackets double well as a floor stand). In my opinion, it is SUPER bright. Its amazing how such a physically small light source will wash the average size performance area especially if the room is dark. I personally don't find it to be too obtrusive having been in front of stage lights before but could see someone with sensitive eyes feeling differently. I can still easily see what's going on with my pedals on the floor and my mixing board. However, if you stare at it dead on, you will see "sun spots" when you look away. A little common sense helps avoid this issue. I currently use the Colorstrip only as a standalone unit in its "Sound Active" modes. Other options include Master / Slave functionality (daisy chain up to 30+ units) and DMX control. Chauvet even makes a foot controller for it. I've been pretty happy with the internal programming for my purposes. You can do anything from a very subtle color-fading effect (022) to extremely dynamic, beat-following programs (008, 009) . The built-in mic cues the program changes very responsively. As soon as a beat kicks in, it is following right along (1...2...3...4..., Red...Green...Blue...Yellow, etc.) Some of the programs follow the beat but with more gradual color changes (013, 015) or a clubby "lens- flipping" effect (012). There is even a "shuffle" program (023) that randomly runs through all the other programs. My only gripe with the programming is that the sound active functions kind of keep on running randomly even when the music stops. I would like to see it just stay on the color it was on when the song ended until it picks up significant sound again. Overall, I'm having a lot of fun with it and might add one or two more down the road.

I purchased two of these lights fo my band. Right out of the box one of them didn't work so I needed to send it back. After about three shows the other one quit working also. I think these lights may be a decent option if they are placed in your setup and not moved, but they do not stand up to road abuse. When they work, they work well and maybe I just have bad luck with chauvet products, but I will definately spend more money to get something else before I purchase chauvet again.

Comments about Chauvet COLORstrip Mini:
Not an expert on light strips, but I love this lighting system. Solidly built, responds to music with the built in mic. Plug and play. Got a lot of compliments for the lighting effect. Easy set up and if you like the thing to control itself so you can concentrate on your music, this is the ticket. Great price.
For small settings but you can chain them together.
Comments about Chauvet COLORstrip Mini:
So far I have nothing negative to say about this item. For me it's perfect. If someone requires stronger lighting, maybe another unit would be better, or hooking together several of these strips will work too.
I'm a musical entertainer and do solo gigs. This 19" lighting strip is just what I needed. It gives me just enough light and effects and it also fits perfectly in front of my Kustom KPC10MP 10 Powered Monitor Speaker. The unit is programmable, has its own volume knob and a on/off switch. The 'legs' hold it nicely on the floor and allow me to direct the light to any upward angle I need. I'm happy with it!
I only had it for a few weeks, so I cannot say much about the longivity of the unit.
I've got this unit for less, because I bought a 'blemished' item. Which, except the box it came in, wasn't blemished at all. Must have been a return.

Comments about Chauvet COLORstrip Mini:
These lights are the coolest thing i have ever used. They have made such a difference on the venue stage. The angle and dispersion of the light is actually well balanced. I thought that there would be little to no color mixing but i was wrong. These things mix so well. There are some minor flaws to them. The biggest one i would say is how you mount them. It seems really flimsy. Other than that they are great for just about everything. They step on very quickly so i wouldn't recommend them for theater but for concert lighting ( up lights, floor lights, Crowed blinding, down lighting). They pack a punch for there size and also very bright.

Great Product
I bought 5 of these for uplighting and Im gonna order another 5 for my trussing system. These Lights are bright and more than capable of lighting an entire room. With its low power usage it works great for any type of event. I would strongly reccomend that you stock up on them
Comments about Chauvet COLORstrip Mini:
These lights are BRIGHT. We got two to add to our band's stage lighting and one of these on either side of the truss wash the whole band with light enough to read by. The combinations of programming are tricky to figure out but once you get the hang of reading the charts, it's a cinch to get specific styles running in sound-activated mode. They're daisy-chain-able to each other, and also come with little extensions that allow you to plug some other type of light in. They're also DMX controllable. They also fit right into our rack unit - though I haven't figure out how to permanently mount one there yet. The only downside on this unit is that when we try to run them with a DMX dimmer (not the data controller) they completely reset every time we change programs and go to full-on for about 3 seconds. Most people don't even notice.
Comments about Chauvet COLORstrip Mini:
i just got this little number for a small-space lighting setup. was surprised at how bright it was and the relative versatility of the chase programs. not gonna lie, it's for small gigs and small budgets, but for what we needed, it works wonders. oh, just....order 2. you won't regret it.
Comments about Chauvet COLORstrip Mini:
I ordered 2 of these, used them at one gig and then came home and ordered 2 more. They are super-bright, easy to set up, have professional looking slick light patterns, the people at our show commented how cool they looked, and I have never had any comments on lights before. The price is right, this is the future people. I absolutely love them....
Comments about Chauvet COLORstrip Mini:
I replaced 8 PAR 38 lights and controller with two of these. Transportation and power consumption are the main advantages I was searching for when buying these lights. I was surprised to see how much more exciting my light show has become since adding just two of these. Don't let the size fool you, these things can really pump out the light. The colors are much more vivid than my old stage lights. They are almost too bright to aim directly at your crowd. The two sets of brackets will allow you to aim them where you need. I prefer to aim the toward the ceiling and it lights up even the larger rooms. I suggest using DMX or the foot controller to operate them. The sound active mode works fine but more control is needed. LED is the way to go and these babies offer a lot of options to a light show.
