The unit has a ton of features and its built tough, had a great experience using the 2 that we own. However after 2 years outdoors the sun eventually took its toll and warped the plastic enough that water did get into it, enough to fry the mainboards on both units we own. If you plan on using it for a permanent outdoor solution look for something else. It is waterproof, but not sunproof.
This light is indespensible for quick installation and ease of use. A great starter LED that is pretty tough. The fixture itself has many wonderful macros and the onboard computer makes color mixing and DMX control very simple; the light, with some learning, is capable of very complex and subtle colors. I've even used these for low res pixel mapping. I use these every weekend and have very few complaints which I will list now. The spaghetti of cable is kinda ridiculous. In typical Chauvet fashion the knobs are really easy to break (although some newer models fix this with metal knobs). And after heavy use (hundreds or thousands) the LED brightness (the green especially) starts to change, resulting in color differences from fixtures to fixture, which can be really annoying. All in all I would reccomend it, even though there are higher end products that are better. A good buy all in all.
I bought this to help with flood/wash effects on the dance floor - BIG MISTAKE. I could have bought 4 laser units and a controller for the price I paid for this unit. For it's intended purpose I would say it's a great unit, but - if you're looking for anything spectacular - please keep shopping around, you'll do better with their incandescent flood/gobo/spot effect lighting for the money.
