Intelligent Music Database Management
The HDC-1000 uses a database management system that allows the user to search through a massive library of music within seconds, by artist, title, genre, album, or even by string.

PC-Based Database Creation
Databases can be created via the rackmountable HDC unit or the PC application, allowing users to create and manage database files at a gig, or on a home computer with lightning-fast speed.

Search Options
The cataloging system gives you several browsing options, including Search by Artist, Song, Title, Album, and Genre. This system allows users to search the same way they would using an iPod or similar portable music player.

String Search
Users can search by a certain word or phrase to find tracks on their storage device, even if they're unsure of the name. When the user inputs a keyword, it will search all Artists, Titles, Albums, and Genres, and show all matches to that keyword. For instance, searching for the word 'LOVE' might bring up (3) artists. It might also find (60) titles, (10) albums and (1) genre. The user can then select the artists, titles, albums, or genres from that list.

CD-Audio Playback
No need to abandon the CD collection, the HDC-1000 is able to play audio CDs with any compatible USB CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

CD/DVD Data Playback
Play back user-created CD-Rs or DVD-Rs loaded with MP3 or WAV music files using a compatible USB CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

Main Playback Screen
The brightly illuminated LCD main playback screen displays info on any track in the catalog, showing everything from the essentials such as artist, track title, pitch, time elapsed/remaining to detailed information including file format (MP3 or WAV), genre, and track length.

File Explorer Mode
Allows users to browse through files and directories as if they were using a computer, showing them the directory structure and file names exactly as they exist on the audio storage device. DJs with their own organizational system can navigate it quicker than using the database.

Firmware Upgradeable
The HDC's internal music management software can be upgraded simply by downloading new software from the Cortex website.

Storage Device Selection
Take a client's request from his iPod or USB memory flash drive, plug it in, and play it right away without having to reboot the unit. With 2 USB ports (and support for up to 4 devices when using a USB hub), the Cortex HDC unit allows users to connect and recognize multiple storage devices to access a variety of separate music databases simultaneously.

Cue Point Management
Cue points can be set like a normal CD player, so that the DJ can return to a certain time in the track just by pressing a button. Cue points may also be saved permanently to the connected storage device, allowing them to load with a track automatically.

Performance Protection
Every Cortex HDC unit features exclusive protection from accidental shutdown while playing, securing your precious digital files from sudden corruption and preserving your performance. To turn the unit off, simply press and hold the power button for more than 2 seconds.

Keyboard Support
Quickly find that hot new track in a massive library of music with just a few taps of a USB-compatible keyboard.

VBR & CBR File Support
The HDC-1000 can play all your MP3's; CBR or VBR at any bitrate up to 320kbps.

Multi-language Support
The HDC-1000 music management system supports multiple languages including English, French, and Spanish.

Ultra-fast Instant Start
From Cue to Start, get into the mix with no delay.

Scratch Mode
Create exciting transitions and effects by simply holding down the Jog Mode button for a moment to enter Scratch mode, users will be able to use the jog wheel to engage a scratch effect.

Waveform Display Mode
Via the Cortex database software, available FREE from the Cortex website, HDC-1000 users will be able to create a waveform of each song on their USB storage device which can then be optionally selected to be displayed on the HDC-1000's LCD screen.

Seamless Loop Feature
HDC-1000 users will now be able to seamlessly loop their favorite parts of a song with the touch of a button for more creative mixing possibilities.

a non stop glitch machine

Comments about Cortex HDC-1000 Digital Music Controller:

I bought one of these and it started off being like a dream come true. I used it at home to get used to the feel and play with it before I took it out to a gig. Then I used it for several gigs, and it messed up on me one night, and thank goodness I had CD's with me and another dual CD player. I kept going, nobody noticed, but I never could get it to work right. I sent it in, the tech guy told me it was fine. He told me what to do, even gave me a little thmb key drive and walked me through, And it still had a "delay" lag on it. I was told by a friend it was a buffereing problem. He has the same unit and now we both have expensive paper weights. I personally think that if they set it up to run as a stand alone unit with both sides working separately from one another, but maybe with some sort of keyboard switch option to have the keyboard change control from sinde to the other, you couldn't top it. I wish the bugs were taken out before it wa released.I have over 20 years worth of DJ work under my belt, and would love to see a full proof system

Great unit - perfect backup

Comments about Cortex HDC-1000 Digital Music Controller:

I bought this unit because it was cheaper than repairing my old Pioneer CMX3000 and it would free up some space in the rack. Got it, updated the unit with the latest firmware and got it a powered usb hub for a Hard drive and USB keyboard for faster direct searches. Works flawless every time. only complaint is there is no Master Tempo like the larger model but all in all it is a great unit works perfect everytime and is a great complement to Megaseg on my Macbook Pro using a DAC-3.

Comments about Cortex HDC-1000 Digital Music Controller:

The Cortex HDC 1000 unit arrived at 4pm and I used it at 8 pm gig! It worked great! I downloaded the soft wear up date installed it. I found out my MP3 was not compatable so loaded a quick 4 gigs of tunes on a flash drive. Boom pluged in the drive and it was working great. The next day I took it out of the rack and discoved many more features. Sweet, leave the lap tops at home where they belong and rock with a USB flash drive or exturnal hard drive. Only one draw back you can not set the unit on couninious play and have it cross fade from one tune to another. One song completely stops before the next one starts. With the use of a PC and downloadable sofe wear you can set up play list in advance. So far it's great and priced like an I POD, but much more DJ useable.

Great DJ Tool

Comments about Cortex HDC-1000 Digital Music Controller:

Bought several of these along with the Dmix 300's. They are easy to use, a few small glitches here and there but nothing that affected an event, only things another DJ would even notice. Easy to operate. I wish it had the record crate function like the Numark D2 which is an incredible machine. Between the cortex or numark, I'd go numark because of that one feature, but other than that I would go with the cortex without a problem. The Dmix by the way is a great addition to have as an emergency backup system (just add powered speakers and go). My guys love the Cortex 1000 and Dmix 300, I'd buy them agin.

Comments about Cortex HDC-1000 Digital Music Controller:

Bought a Cortex 1000, and I actually like the unit. Basically 2 MP3 players in one. I was leary of the unit at first, due to some poor reports, but after some research and a vist to the Cortex Forum on the Cortex Web site, I changes my mind. Seems that most of the trouble comes from improper setup of the external drive. First off, the external drive and the unit perform the best together when the drive is formated to FAT32, not NTFS. In a nut shell the controller Bios is Linux based, and is unable to write to an NTFS partition. The second thing is to keep your file system on the drive concise, and keep the number of MP3 files per folder down. The manufacturer states less than 1000 per folder... I kept mine to 500 MP3 files or less per folder. Also, you need to keep the drive from being fragmented... Which means defragment the drive regularly. I can honestly say that I have done all of this, and the system seems to work well. I have no complaints.BTW - My drive has over 30,000 songs on it.

Comments about Cortex HDC-1000 Digital Music Controller:

I've DJ'd for nearly 20 years. I've used tons of equipment - this is the worst. As owner of a DJ company I'm looking for solid, easy to use equipment to put in my rigs... this isn't it. If it worked like it was supposed to this item would be great - too bad it doesn't. When you load a track on one side, the other side often skips. Sometimes it just hangs or skips when you are not even touching it. Sometimes it just shuts down. Immagine the Father/Daughter dance just STOPPING in the middle. Cortex is just Gemini garbage... spend the extra bucks and buy the Denon HD2500, its solid, tested, and the tech support is 2nd to none. Don't let this thing get you bad press... one screwed up gig and your name will be mud, and you'll never DJ again!
