With a 2-ohm load on this product there is no other amp in the world that competes thermally. I have used it for the whole PA system for a med sized night club and was never even able to get the fan to go into high speed. Also, the other amps used to blow the circuit breaker at even lower spl levels.
I purchased a Crown CE 4000 in October 2002 and it worked great for about 8 months, until I used it outside. The amp was in a rack under a tent in about 85 degree semi-humid weather. It thermo'd out and would not reset. I sent it back to Crown for service. They've had it two weeks and haven't looked at it yet. I am not pleased with Crown's service promises. I also use two Carvin DCM power amps. They are three years old, and they have never given me any problems, even in extreme heat and cold. I am now running 4 JBL Mpro 418s cabs with one Carvin DCM 2000 and it kicks butt, and doesn't even clip, awesome huh? Don't buy the CE series amp, it is not Crown's best effort.
I own this Crown amp, and it's the best amp ever! It has never stopped working for me, it's output power is incredible, it might cost a bit, but heck! it's worth it!
I own 6 Crown Amplifiers. I use 5 of them in my mobile live sound/recording desk and 1 for back-up which has never had to be used due to an amp failure. I perform a lot of outdoor gigs where I have encountered questionable power and have on-board power conditioning using a 3KVA UPS. My system is tri-amped stereo (processed by Driverack PA)with discrete monitoring for both vocal and instrumentation. The speaker towers are a combination of Cerwin-Vega and vintage Altec VoT's. Monitors are Yamaha wedgies. My desk has 24track digital recording/playback capabilities with on-the-fly CD burning available. I am a keyboard/singer/songwriter with my own band and a freak when it comes to sound. Crown audio quality whether for live or reproduced sound (during breaks) is reliably awesome. The magic of live performance happens when the audience can "feel it". I have 4 CE2000 and 2 CE4000 amps. I have NEVER had an amp failure in 4 or 5 years. These Crown amps are a large part of my "rabbits in my hat".
I have been using Crown Amplifiers for more than 25 years. Every Crown Amp I have ever purchased I still have and they work great. Some have been with me on tour and some have been in my recording studio. I have never been let down and never blown a speaker using a Crown amp. The CE-4000 is running a pair of ECLIPSE SW8122.4 professional subwoofers, in stereo, in my recording studio. There is no sub-system that I have ever heard that comes close to what I have put together for my studio playback system. Anyone who doesn't trust Crown Ampifiers to do the job has no clue about professional audio.
I hooked this amp up to a pair of EV-Kw Eliminator Subs. The Thump and Low end will rattle the fillings out of your head!!! AMAZING OUTPUT!!
This amp never fails! It seems to me that it has more to offer than said...
