I just bought a couple of these to run two pairs of speakers-2xjbl jrx115(FOH), and 2xjbl jrx112(monitors).Both speaker types are rated at 250watts continous at 8ohms. After the first couple of uses I must say the headroom and clarity is awesome. The 15 inch mains put out a full sound with this amp, but if you play places with capacity of 80 or more get some subs and go full range to get more projection. As for monitoring, the mixes we used in live and rehersal apps were great even with 5 musicians and only two monitors. . . bright and clear. Oh yeah, these things were on for a minimum of six hours the first three time we used them in a hot garage and a hot smokey bar. . . I kept feeling them for heat but they were cold to the touch every time. Good buy if you can't afford the gnar stuff.

We purchased two of these to run our Mackie s410s subwoofers, each in bridged mode. The speakers are 8 Ohm so there should not have been issues. The first one came with a non-working channel from the factory. We sent it back and got a replacement. The replacement lost a channel after 4 shows so I replaced it with a QSC PLX3202. The next show the last 802D just died. All the lights out, no power, and not a breaker issue... we daisy chained the subs on the QSC to get through the night. I went ahead and bought another PLX3202. I think these are very low Crown products. But 299 vs 1,100.00 is a large difference in quality - so I'm not trying to compare apples to apples - but I can't afford amp failure in a show. This is one that I would definitely get the added warranty to make this a little less annoying.

Great Amp

By Phillip-t5I2v

from Topeka, KS

let me first start by saying that I use these for my subs. They power them extremely well. I am planing on getting a second one of these amps for my mains. The only problem that I have found, only by reading Crowns site, BEFORE I bought it is that they are not designed to be used with low ohms like bridged at 4 ohms or used at 2 ohms... which I do not use so it works great for me. this amp has never let me down like other amps I have had in the past. the prices on these amps are far lower than they are worth. buy it, as long as you are not the type of person that will daisy chain everything... which is hard on any amp.

Outstanding for the price

By Mr. B.-hK_Km

from Milwaukee, WI

If you're playing shows with 5,000+ people, I could understand why you might not give this 5 star ratings, but if you're just going to be using it for personal home use, or personal, small band shows, there's no way you need anymore power... if you think you do then you're either deaf or seeking to become deaf. I can't even turn this thing half way up before my ears can't take anymore. At this level the sound is still crystal clear. Buy it now before they're no longer available!

4 ohm bridge???

By WG Audio Group LLC

from detroit

bought this to run a pair of 18" subs for our B system thinking that 2100 watts would suffice for medium sized club environments. after 15 minutes the unit went into thermal shutdown. it did cool down and come back online, but after just a few more minutes once again it shut down. take note it was at a moderate level and was not pounded it into clip. needless to say that was the end of the xls802d running @ 4ohm bridge mode. its now used for another application in 8 ohm bridge for mid range and have had no problems, but after checking the specs at crown it is not mentioned anywhere about 4 ohm bridge mode. is it junk? NO...but i have serious doubts about its 4 ohm capability- at least on low end. i still think its a decent amp for the money. just wish it had a higher damping factor but that's why there is such a huge price difference in other crown products. you get what you pay for.

Great amp for the money

By Vic-RQddY

from Brownsburg IN

I have been using my Crown XLS802D for about a month. I have it connected to my Texas Audio pre-amp mixer. I have sampled the output on many genres of music and am satisfied with its overall performance. The dual fans keep this machine running cool. The front interface is simple and to the point. For the applications I use this for I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Eh...it's okay.

By MusicManMike-RAb-q

from Massachusetts

I'm not too impressed with this amp. I bought this a few years ago, and I was blown away by the sound of it, but that's because I came from Nady's. Last summer, I bought some QSC's, and they demolish this in comparison. I've had the Crown fail on me running somewhat loud, but I had my QSC running full blown power for 5 hours straight and it didn't come close to crapping out. The Crown sucks up way too much power, and doesn't have much headroom. For a little more, you can get a QSC RMX2450, which has more power, is way more reliable, and has cool built in features like switchable high pass filters, limiters, etc. Not to mention, you'd get QSC's 6 year warranty.

Great Amp

By Kannon19

from MS

I love this thing. It's never overheated (and I run it at about 2.6 ohms per channel). However, I've never ran marathon gigs outside in the heat with it either, and I take care of my equipment. It's simple, and I got a good deal on it, so if you can do the same, I would say buy this product.

Bi-Amp Heaven

By Scotty J.

I matched a pair of these up with a dbx RackPA Pro pushing a pair of Yamaha A15 (mains) and JBL MRX518S (subs). It works great for medium size venues and also one heck of a home stereo!

Crown Reliability

By Maestro52

from Olympia, WA

My purchase of ONE Crown XLS-802D started a PA system for our live variety music that has a full, fat, killer sound. Using the XLS802D for two Yamaha S115V'S and two Yamaha A15'S for mains at 4 ohms, we then purchased a Mackie DFX12 sound board to run the setup. I then purchased a used Crown PB-3 to run two JBL JRX-118 subs with a Behringer Super X Pro crossover and then a used Crown PB-2 for our two Yamaha S112V monitors and two small peavey monitors at 4 ohms. With the gain properly set on the sound board we have ample headroom on the XLS-802D and has been consistently quiet with no heating problems at all every weekend and is probably the best investment I have made so far.
