Crown's XLS1000 power amplifier is a premiere portable PA system with unmatched performance, technology, and affordability. It includes multiple inputs so you can plug in anything and play anywhere, along with several system setup configurations. This high-performance Crown power amp provides enormous power and flexibility thanks to the integrated DriveCore Technology, PureBand Crossover System and Peakx limiters. Weighing less than 12 pounds, The Crown XLS1000 power amp is much easier to set up and move from show to show.
A Power Amp with Integrated DriveCore Technology
Class D amplifiers are notable for extraordinarily high efficiency and being well suited for driving difficult reactive loads such as subwoofers. However, their performance can suffer impaired performance on marginal and unstable AC line supplies. To overcome this obstacle, Crown engineers developed DriveCore Technology—a proprietary hybrid analog-digital integrated circuit (IC) developed with Texas Instruments that drives the "front end" of the Class D output stage. Over 60 years of Crown's design knowledge and experience went into the development of this technology resulting in truly remarkable benefits. The DriveCore Technology incorporated in the Crown XLS1000 power amp provides an extremely wide tolerance with regards to sagging or "dirty" AC line conditions, providing consistent performance without affecting audio quality. This means the Crown power amp will not compromise your performance by fluctuating generator power, or overload from lighting rigs, backline gear, etc.
In addition, DriveCore Technology's patented feedback and PWM modulation circuits enable fast recovery on peak transients, accurate reproduction of low-level detail, and precise tracking of low-frequencies at high power levels for maximum subwoofer output.
Advanced Switched-Mode Power Supply
The advanced power supply in the Crown power amp is highly efficient and optimized for maximum power transfer from the AC line through the Class D output stage to the loudspeakers. A benefit to this is substantial weight reduction when compared to older 60Hz transformer-based power supplies.
PureBand Crossover System
The PureBand Crossover System in the XLS Series adds an enormous amount of flexibility and performance to any system. With this system, the crossover frequency is completely variable allowing the choice of any crossover point between 50Hz and 3kHz on 1/12 octave centers. The use of 4th order Linkwitz-Riley filters provides steep slopes for a seamless transition between high and low drivers. And with four crossover modes to choose from providing the ultimate in flexibility, all of your system needs are covered.
Peakx limiters
Peakx limiters provide the ultimate in performance and protection for your entire system. This advanced algorithm was specifically developed and tuned to work with this amplifier and power-supply to achieve higher SPL will less audible artifacts. This means less distortion, less shutdowns, and maximum safe power delivered to your speakers. The Peakx limiters can be easily turned on or off by channel right from the front panel eliminating the need to be digging around in the back of the dark rack.

I have bi amped in the past for my outside and larger stage venues but ended up with a 80 pound 7 space rack to lug around. power amps for bass are ok but the max rms rating is typically on a 2 ohm load. So I choose this xls 1000 for power and lightness. so far so good. The head room was there.
I run it stereo into a single 600w 4ohm 15" cabinet on one side and a dual 10" 8 ohm cabinet on the other. The amp has filter options but I preferr a stereo 15 band eq to roll off and taylor my sound on both cabinets. Even with a BBE pre-amp and stereo eq this is now a 2 finger rack to carry around.
My only concern is for low ac voltage when the unit may shut down if the ac power source is below spec.

If you need power buy this amp! It works great bridged. It is light, runs cool and is incredibly quiet. A good friend of mine that's been running sound professionally almost as long as I have (nigh on 30 years) Looked at my rack, pointed to the Crown XLS's in it and said "Oh, you've got the good ones."
It's clean sounding and has been super dependable for over a year and I've been using them a bunch. Get several and run them bridged/mono you won't be disappointed. I've been using Crown power amps for years and these little dudes are the best yet.

The big guys Crown and QSC wanted to grab some budget users. Crown won with the XLS line. It rocks with low heat and low power demand.
I use this amp for an aux, delay, and monitors.
A pair of these in a shallow 4 space ATA case weighs 20 LBS!

We had a Carvin amp that we replaced with this amp. I was suprised at the difference in sound. The Crown amp had much crisper and cearer sound. If we look to buy more amps we will be looking at the Crown amps.

Lets call it a 9.5
If this amp had inch speaker connections it would get a 10. I already own one of these so buying the second one was a no brainer. I run one for my mains and one on my subs. Both replace older amps that weighed much more. My rack case is now 46 lbs. lighter and with Crown Power to boot. We play classic rock and country in mostly small to medium venues and these guys power my Peavey speakers just fine. Both offer a noticeably cleaner sound than my 20 something year old amps.

Between it's ability to handle almost any impedance, built-in crossover and huge weight difference compared to the competators, the XLS Crown series is the way to go.
- Ability to handle 2 Ohm Impedance at high volumes (which no other amp in it's price class can do)
- Built-in digital cross over. The days of an external crossover are over.
Nothing wrong with the fine quality here. Very elegant design, also very LIGHT!
You get so many features with a classic amp price, what a great job you did Crown.
