I bought this sucker to round out a new PA I put together. Its pretty easy to use, logically laid out, and performs. Fortunately for me all my speakers and amps are already in the onboard library. The set ups are easy enough, and being able to save setups is probably the absolute best feature.I pinked a museum we played in recently. As you might expect of a marble and stone room with 40' ceilings it was very very live and an acoutic nightmare, as I'd remembered from previous gigs. This thing flattened the room! It was amazing. During soundcheck the kick drum and bass were booming unbearably. After pinking... it was like a high school band hall or auditorium. Without a doubt one of the best investments I've made. I play 10-15 rooms on a rotating basis. Once I get them all tuned in set ups will be quicker. It doesn't "cut an paste" or "save as" set ups. I wanted to use the same eq solution for a mono and stereo set up and couldnt' without re-pinking. I found a work around by setting up and manually dialing in most of the eq settings.

I'm an installer/contractor, and live sound engineer, and I used to love these things to death...however having dealt with various PA situations over the years, this unit is way too limited for my needs. I never use RTA's anymore, so that feature is useless. I pretty much only eq with parametrics, and this unit only gives you two parametric eq's per channel, when I really need 4 or 5. The increments when adjusting a parameter are not small enough. I only like setting up loudspeaker managment systems through a computer, and this does not have a computer option. If you have a basic, lower-end, straightforward PA, and you have limited PA setup experience and need something easier to use, this is a good piece to get. Otherwise, shoot for the Driverack 260 (This unit is WORLDS different from the Driverack PA, much more than just the computer feature, unlike what a previous reviewer said), or look at the BBE DS24 or DS26, which has TONS more powerful features for less money.

worse sound processor ever!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I had 2 of these in my rack for a year, always had problems to set up my sound. The auto eq doesn't work well and the sound is really harsh. It sounds like you are out of phase. I switched to a dc one by electrovoice and my pa sound improved atleast 10 better times in quality.....tx dbx for making me waiste money on your product.... and thanks to EV for making me one happy customer!!

The DBX Drive Rack PA is the Sh#t.

By Blues Cat

from Atlanta, ga.

?Where have you been all my life?? This unit rocks, and if it were a female, I'd marry it. My PA has gone from OK to great with this unit alone. I plan to get some new power amps to go with it, but what I have sounds awesome now. If I could afford another one, I would get it for my monitors.Hell, if I could afford it I would buy one for every band I know.

Be sure to get the rtn microphone, but with a little education from its easy to understand interface and instruction manual, you will be crisp and loud in no time!

Drive Rack

By Rick Surrano

from Athens, New York

I have owned the drive rack for 1 year. The ease in which to operate the system is amazing. This rack cleans up the sound rather well, and affords the user to choose from many preset applications. I am going to purchase one for my other band. Turn it on and let it fly.

Almost a sound engineer in a box...

By jefdiamond

from OKC, OK

With all of its features, you really can't beat the number of signal processors you get with this one unit. I already have separate EQs, crossover, limiter/gate/compressor...but this is all in one PLUS more variables to work with...the pink noise generator, feedback suppressor, and RTA is what made me purchase this item. I placed it on an already clear JBL system and got a sound that's at least 60% better if not more! I've resolved to put a Drivepack PA on every install and sound system I work on from now on. It may not be the absolute answer for all problems but with an hour of tweaking after you pink the room...you're damn close!

COMPACT CROSSOVER WITH A PUNCH!!

By COVER STORY MUSIC

from Connecticut

This crossover kicks ***! Once you set it up you are done... I bought 2 of them because I thought I would need a backup, and after two years of use I have NEVER needed my backup. Gig after gig of crisp clean sound! I use a Mackie CFX 20 with 3 Mackie 1400-Watt amps and a Mackie 2600-watt for my Yamaha speakers. Great product!

Yes, get as many as you can afford

This is the best thing I have seen in a while. I have one in our kids church running the mains (2 eons and 2 JBL sr4719A). I also have two in the adult church running the monitors. (No x-over, but eq, and feedback elimator). I love these things. I go portable from time to time, I especially like how it has a memory so I can recall it and get the exact sound when I return home. In the adult church we have a problem with knob mysteriously moving during the week. It was a nightmare with the old eq's. Not a problem with this. Most people aren't sure what they are for, and even if they tried, they are locked. You can't get into it unless you know how to get pass the lock. I love this. A Must for any church if you ask me. GREAT. DID I MENTION I REALLY LOVE THESE THINGS?

Now that I have it, I won't do without it.

By Lildrummerboy-bqMhu

For my needs, it turned out to be exactly what I needed. It does everything it says with ease and is easy to understand. Stood right in front of my mains with NO feedback. Small PA's - must have.

This kicks butt and was very easy to use!

Two thumbs up for the dbx team that came up with this. I hooked it up and in 5 minutes I was up and running. I don't think I have ever setup a 3-way system this quickly before. The wizard just steps you through all the parameters. I could even go in and tweak stuff to my liking. This thing even setup my room EQ! This is a must for anyone with a live rig!

You don't need anything else

Took a while to learn how to use, but once setup it was like taking a blanket off the front of the speakers... crystal clear sound! Got rid of our old EQ, crossover, exciter (no use for an exciter with the clarity the driverack produces), and compressor. The driverack contains it all.

Our Best P.A. Sound Ever Using The Driverack

By DrRawk

from Hawthorne , N.J.

See all my reviews

I play guitar in a hard rock gigging cover band. We do about 75 shows average a year and because of this found the need to purchase our own P.A., or rather should I say, our other guitar player bought the whole thing. When shopping around we came across the Driverack but did not know too much about it. Needless to say once we got the demo we knew it was going to be a key component to our sound system. The nice thing about it is that it has built in programs for JBL and Crown which is exactly what we have, The pink noise spectrum analizer is a dream so it's normally as easy as pinking the room, getting the results with the wizard and using one of the built in JBL/Crown programs. We have added a DBX dual 31 band EQ and our board is a Mackie CFX 16. Drivers are all JBL M Pro with two 18 inch sub boxes and two 15 inch mains with horns plus four M Pro 15 Inch Floor Monitors. We're using about 4000 watts power total.

Hope you don't lose power! Poof!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Loaned my Driverack to my buddy since he was interested in buying one. During his band's gig a drunk accidentally stepped on their PA main power cord and yanked it out of the wall socket. Goodbye power and goodbye speakers. Nice BIG power spike from the Driverack killed his speakers. I have since sold my Driverack and bought the Behringer DCX2496. MUCH better unit and I've no more worries. It does more for less money. No problems in the year I've had it so far. My buddy bought one and he loves his too.

Got it on a Friday. Took it with me on a Saturday to a gig I was running sound on and cut my setup time by one hour or more and my system sounded better than when I spent hours ringing it out!

Burned my speakers during power down. Be careful since it causes big spikes when turning off the unit. Caused my tweeters to blow up. Big design problem.

The holy grail of signal processors.

By Markie Mark

from Moreno Valley, CA

See all my reviews

Long ago my band and I used to settle for second best. Having good sound comes with a price. So we used to buy what our money paid for. Man, was I right! When you're on a low budget, it's hard to get a good signal processor at decent price. I can easily say that I wasn't satisfied with my sound going through my pa system. Now let me tell you that my pa system isn't start of the art and all that stuff. I did by a BBE to help solve some of the problem and it really did, but something was still missing in my sound. So I took a chance and bought a DriveRack PA processor. This processor featured so much and it was at a good price. I knew it would sound good because it came from a company (dbx)that's known for making really good signal processors. Man, from the moment I connected it to my PA system, I was blown away. My bass was tighter and my highs were crisp. I knew that I had gotten a good deal. Now I can literally say that I never need to buy another signal processor again.
