I bought this sucker to round out a new PA I put together. Its pretty easy to use, logically laid out, and performs. Fortunately for me all my speakers and amps are already in the onboard library. The set ups are easy enough, and being able to save setups is probably the absolute best feature.I pinked a museum we played in recently. As you might expect of a marble and stone room with 40' ceilings it was very very live and an acoutic nightmare, as I'd remembered from previous gigs. This thing flattened the room! It was amazing. During soundcheck the kick drum and bass were booming unbearably. After pinking... it was like a high school band hall or auditorium. Without a doubt one of the best investments I've made. I play 10-15 rooms on a rotating basis. Once I get them all tuned in set ups will be quicker. It doesn't "cut an paste" or "save as" set ups. I wanted to use the same eq solution for a mono and stereo set up and couldnt' without re-pinking. I found a work around by setting up and manually dialing in most of the eq settings.

I'm an installer/contractor, and live sound engineer, and I used to love these things to death...however having dealt with various PA situations over the years, this unit is way too limited for my needs. I never use RTA's anymore, so that feature is useless. I pretty much only eq with parametrics, and this unit only gives you two parametric eq's per channel, when I really need 4 or 5. The increments when adjusting a parameter are not small enough. I only like setting up loudspeaker managment systems through a computer, and this does not have a computer option. If you have a basic, lower-end, straightforward PA, and you have limited PA setup experience and need something easier to use, this is a good piece to get. Otherwise, shoot for the Driverack 260 (This unit is WORLDS different from the Driverack PA, much more than just the computer feature, unlike what a previous reviewer said), or look at the BBE DS24 or DS26, which has TONS more powerful features for less money.

worse sound processor ever!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I had 2 of these in my rack for a year, always had problems to set up my sound. The auto eq doesn't work well and the sound is really harsh. It sounds like you are out of phase. I switched to a dc one by electrovoice and my pa sound improved atleast 10 better times in quality.....tx dbx for making me waiste money on your product.... and thanks to EV for making me one happy customer!!

Awesome but Hazardous

By Lish

from SF, CA

With its automated EQ analysis, the DriveRack PA can bring out the best sound your equipment can produce. It can also work wonders in balancing subs, mids, and horns in a system with mix-and-match components. However, for live PA use, the front panel of this rack mount unit presents an extreme reliability hazard. It is all too easy to accidentally hit the analysis mode button below the LCD display without even noticing it. This button instantly converts the unit into a spectrum analyzer, blocking all sound output while it's in this mode. In my experience, the only safe way to use this unit in the field is mounted behind a tamper-proof rack panel.

Be sure to get the rtn microphone, but with a little education from its easy to understand interface and instruction manual, you will be crisp and loud in no time!

The DBX Drive Rack PA is the Sh#t.

By Blues Cat

from Atlanta, ga.

?Where have you been all my life?? This unit rocks, and if it were a female, I'd marry it. My PA has gone from OK to great with this unit alone. I plan to get some new power amps to go with it, but what I have sounds awesome now. If I could afford another one, I would get it for my monitors.Hell, if I could afford it I would buy one for every band I know.

Too limited for my needs

Money well spent

By LA Funk Master

from Lafayette, LA

I bought a Drive Rack because a friend recommended it. Absolutely the best advice I have ever gotten. Really wakes up your system. This unit is like 9 effects processors in one. I've read some of the other reviews that had problems blowing speakers...well, if you read the manual, it gives you a specific order to turn your gear on, and to turn off, just reverse the order. I have had my Drive Rack for a year and a half, for probably 150 gigs, and NOT ONE PROBLEM. All in all the best money I've ever spent on gear. If you do live shows, buy this bad boy.

Drive Rack

By Rick Surrano

from Athens, New York

I have owned the drive rack for 1 year. The ease in which to operate the system is amazing. This rack cleans up the sound rather well, and affords the user to choose from many preset applications. I am going to purchase one for my other band. Turn it on and let it fly.

rockin processor!

By P/J.SVTforlife!

from lenexa, KS

The DBX DriveRack will take a good pa and make it great! Almost like an engineer in a single rack space. At rehearsal we set it up and forget it! For live shows we have 3 Crown CE1000's, a Carvin sub, Carvin mains and Peavey mains, as well as 4 15" floor monitors and 2 12". As long as you know proper microphone/speaker/monitor placement this thing will improve your sound 10 fold. It also eliminates a ton of noise and hiss. Fairly easy to use but the instructions are a little too sparce for my taste. Just use it and you'll get the hang of it in no time! Only issue is half of the LCD screen flaked out. I'll get it repaired and then buy another DriveRack for the monitors. This thing is like having effects that would normally take up 16 or more rack spaces compressed into one!!

Almost a sound engineer in a box...

By jefdiamond

from OKC, OK

With all of its features, you really can't beat the number of signal processors you get with this one unit. I already have separate EQs, crossover, limiter/gate/compressor...but this is all in one PLUS more variables to work with...the pink noise generator, feedback suppressor, and RTA is what made me purchase this item. I placed it on an already clear JBL system and got a sound that's at least 60% better if not more! I've resolved to put a Drivepack PA on every install and sound system I work on from now on. It may not be the absolute answer for all problems but with an hour of tweaking after you pink the room...you're damn close!
