About a year ago I build a modest computer for general use, but I wanted to do some recording as well. The on board sound card was terrible so last November I began looking for an upgrade. After looking at all the major names, and my bank account, I bought the 1212m. For the price I cannot say I've ever seen such a drastic improvement in performance. The buzzing and pops were gone. I no longer had under runs and songs that were previously pushing my dual core to 60% were now running at 2-5% and with no discernible latency from key press to sound. I would recommend the 1212m to anyone looking for a solid sound card.

This card kinda sucks for the price. You have to change your sampling rate manually if your playback uses a different sample rate. Suppose, for example, that you play back a 192khz mp3... you get a warning that your sample rate is set at something else and are force to change it to 192 by loading up a new preset for that sample rate. Its very annoying if you work in anything more than 48khz but like to listen to mp3's and such that are in 44.1khz or 48khz.The mixer is very annoying and a bit complicated(although it makes sense once you figure it out). Tech support took about 2 weeks to respond to simple problems but they did give good solutions. If the SB audigy 2 I was using before this didn't have so many hardware problems I'd problem stick with it instead. (Better to just find a better card if there is one out there)

GREAT

By Anonymous

(a) download the latest drivers (b) make the effort to learn patchmix. If you're too lazy or too dumb to do either, forget this card. Otherwise you'll be rewarded with a truly professional product. I run effects and music stems thru this phenonminal card. I also mess around in my project studio with another one. Sounds as good as anything. Trade reviews for these have been consistently positive for a reason. They are good.

Great- I own Two

By DSWPRO

from Cleveland, OH

I have this in two PCs one for remote recording, another for mixing and processing. I have no problems with the drivers or anything. For the price this card is very hard to beat. I use the ADAT interfaces, the line ins and outs, and the midi ports.

Soundblaster users, get a clue!

This is about the best card on the market for the price. Works very well with Sonar, no latency issues whatsoever, 0 latency to be exact. The software included is awesome and great for someone who has never used these type of programs. It's not a gamer's card, it's a musician's card and some learning will be invlolved. No outgrowing this card unless you just need more tacks.

Don't Bother

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

If you like dropouts you'll love this card. I bought this because I only needed one input and it seemed like the best product for the price. Unfortunatly you can't even run one audio track with dx or vst effects without it dropping out. The only way to use it is with the latency set to high to keep in time. I even upgraded my computer since I bought this and it makes no difference. This card may be a cheaper alternative for people who don't need multiple inputs and outputs, but because it can't handle multi-track recording it's just a waste of money.

It doesn't get better for the price

By Xyrium

See all my reviews

Unless you don't know how to operate a PC, this card rocks. The sound is perfectly natural and pristine. I have a treated basement, playing through some largish nearfield monitors, and the output is also fantastic. Pure bliss through headphones as well. Minor drawback, the inputs, a direct recorder might want more than the two balanced inputs on this card. Recording quality is exacting. Great quality at a bargain price.

Exceptional quality, regardless of price range

By Elteto

from Washington, D.C.

It is odd that the price range and the association with Creative put E-Mu's products in a "consumer/enthusiast" class, even though they use plenty of pro-grade components, such as the same A/D converters as the ProTools HD line. The 1212m boasts an impressive 120dB signal-to-noise ratio, which is unmatched by many interfaces even in the multi-hundred-dollar range. You get a lot for the money: switchable ADAT or S/PDIF optical ins/outs, coaxial S/PDIF, MIDI, switchable +4/-10dBV balanced TRS ins/outs, flexible mixer, expandability to SMPTE/Word Clock/MTC, good selection of bundled software, and now even Vista drivers.

not stable at all

By Desdichado

It doesn't like Windows Vista at all. The card disables itself. Input drops when sending to any external app, while it is fine in PatchMix. A sound card should be invisible and this one certainly isn't. Don't waste your time and money.

Basic and supurb...

By eightbit

from Longview, TX

I've been collecting hi-fi stuff for a while now, and I decided to get a new source for my AKG K701s. This card had the best reviews for fidelity except for the Lynx cards, which it is pretty much on par with (minus the surround sound). The first thing I noticed was the clarity, sounds just seem to be much more defined and vivid. Music just seems much more transparent compared to other Creative cards. The opamps and DACs on this card are top-notch for the price tag. The actual software that runs the card is unusual- it uses different patches and just takes a bit to get used to, so just a warning.
