        Edirol

Built in power, front-panel controls, and flexible I/O.

Edirol MA-15D Digital Stereo Micro Monitors are ideal for computer-based recording artists seeking high-quality, powerful reference monitors to serve in a relatively confined space. With their wide frequency range and crystal-clear audio reproduction, Edirol MA-15Ds are perfect for such applications.

Edirol MA-15D monitors feature a built-in bass enhancer that operates on psychoacoustic principles. It converts low frequencies into a series of overtones that the human ear cannot distinguish from the original low frequencies. Thus the listener perceives bass frequencies below the normal range of the speaker cones. If you need even more low end, the MA-15D has a sub out jack.

For digital sources, Edirol MA-15Ds are equipped with a S/PDIF jack (optical and coaxial), and support up to 24-bit/192kHz sources. Thus, an unadulterated audio signal is delivered to the power amplifier so you hear exactly what you have recorded!

Volume and tone controls are conveniently located on the front panel. The MA-15D monitor allows direct connection of 2 sources, such as your computer and stereo. One volume knob controls the first source, the other affects the RCA and digital inputs.

You can also plug in headphones, which automatically defeats the speakers for silent mixing. Magnetic shielding allows to place the Edirol MA-15D speakers in close proximity to your computer monitor.

        Features

        • Bass enhancer
        • Up to 24-bit/192kHz, DA conversion for S/PDIF input
        • Subwoofer output port for bass boost
        • 15W per channel
        • 3 independent source inputs; 1/8" Line, RCA pin Line (L/R), and S/PDIF (optical and coaxial)
        • Front-controlled bass, treble, and 2 independent volume controls
        • 4" woofer and 2" tweeter
        • 2-way bass-reflex enclosure

These monitors arrived today so I tested them a bit. I'm not a musican, I use speakers just for listening MP3 but I like pleasant listening experience. I connected these monitors over analog to my laptop (tested both RCA cable from package and ordinary=cheap 1/8" stereo line) and the sound isn't good for listening music. It lacks energy, sounds flat as if without life, doesn't "bring you into the music". Bass freqs are very good, bass boost is turned off, because if turned on, bass sound too loud. Highs and mids are good though. Before theese, I had Samson Resolv 40a for 1 year and and I even compared these Edirol with my brother's Samson Media One 4a (all 3 monitors have 1" tweeter and 4" woofer, similar price) and Samson definitely rocks. Samson has more natural lively sound and I heard the band just playing in front of me. With Edirol, the band plays somewhere else, sound isn't direct.I'm very curious, how will Edirol sound when connected to s/pdif or optial. I hope much better as I read positive feedback. But definitely I wouldn't buy it to be connected over analog.

I don't consider myself a pro by any means, but I've been recording my own music for about 13 years. I had a pair of Roland speakers along time ago that I used with my 4-Track and I figured I would give these Edirol's a try. They're good speakers if you were to use them as computer monitors, but for mixing, they are terrible. I will listen to something through these speakers, then through headphones and another stereo and it sounds nothing like it did through the Edirols. In addition, these speakers don't handle bass very well at all, particularly a kick drum whether it be miked or an electonic drums set/drum machine. To best summarize, there are EQ knobs on these speakers for a reason.

        Amazing computer speakers

        By Matt-Ar8Yl

These speakers work as advertised. I've used a pair for a few years with good results. If you want loud speakers for a studio, don't get these. For a small bedroom studio via your computer, they rock!

        They are very good!

        By Anonymous

I originally wanted to buy Yamaha HS-50 but my budget were little bit tight so I go for this pair of speakers. They are very good monitors. I've been recording my music for over 10 years and I believe I have good ears. These speakers deliver the details. When I listen Ella Fizgirald, I thought she sings inside of the speakers! They are definitely good buy!

        connections/features sold me

        By taiyed80

I've been using these with my pc for 8 months at the time of this review. Some audio mixing is done on them but it's mostly just general pc audio (music, games, whatever). That being said, I think these are wonderful. I originally purchased them because they had all of the options/connections I needed. SPDIF connections (both rca and optical) straight from the pc. The sub output was also a requirement. I haven't used the analog inputs yet or turned on the bass boost(s) so I cannot write about those. Using a digital connection and subwoofer, the clarity & response is exceptional. Lively mids, crisp highs, but let the sub take care of the lows.. otherwise you might get the speaker "plop" when the bassdrum hits that others have written about here. My only other gripe is that the volume knobs are very sensitive to change. A slight turn will provide a big boost in volume.Like I said up top, these things fit my pc audio needs EXACTLY! I was definitely not disappointed.

        Don't Listen to Music Snobs

        By T-RON

        from New Mexico

I AM a musician and have been for the past 15 years and I've used all kinds of home studio setups, my own and other musicians. Listen to me now and hear me later, these speakers sound just as good as speakers twice the price. To get the best sound you have to use the digital inputs, because I don't care how expensive speakers are, regular old analog inputs all give pretty much the same output. And, as music is essentially all digital now (CD's, MP3's, MP4, etc) you may as well hear it exactly how it's going to sound on those media. Bass mix can be a little heavy with Bass boost, but that is adjustable, and the type of music I play tends to be bass heavy to begin with. These babies sound well across various genres of music. My wife is not a musician and she wants a pair to listen to music on her laptop. Just a really great buy!

        Excellent value and sound

        By The

        from Tulsa, OK

I have had these for 3 months and have recorded and mixed down 7 songs. When I play these recordings on other CD players, (like my car stereo or a boom box) they sound great. They do an excellent job of giving you the TRUE sound of your music; which is the whole point of studio monitors. They look great and sound great. I don't think that anything in this price range could come close to being this good, but that is just my opinion.

Great Price on an excellent product

        By mrgungho

        from springfield, MO

I just got my Edirol MA-15D Digital Stereo Micro Monitors in last night and immediately mix down and mastered 3 songs, all different types of music. I am truly astounded at the quality of these monitors. Normally I would have to master a track, burn it off then take it out to the car to see if I got near radio quality mix, and then have to come back and tweak my mix a bit then reburn etc. etc....Last night however, all 3 songs sounded excellent after the first Master. I have been using some older JBL monitors, and they have different frequencies for different types of music. These little guys (actually they arent that little) Had excellent reproduction of all ranges of frequencies in 3 differnet types of songs (hip hop, Rock and Acoustic) I am very happy with their performance and would recommend them to anyone. The product you get for the price is excellent, and the sound is really huge. They sound just as good as my 6" JBL monitors with even more range. Great deal!!

        Edirol MA-15D

        By RL82

        from New Jersey

I use these monitors strictly for my digital piano's audio output. I tested the my main piano sample using BOTH analog inputs. I made sure I purchased good cable to the comparison would be fair. For the RCA inputs, I used Monster cable--I found the sound to be OK. It wasn't until I used to 1/8" stereo line-in jack that I fell in love. These monitors are AMAZING. The clarity and tone are for beyong anything I expected at this price range, and with a company like Edirol/Roland, I'm confident that it's a quality product. I can only imagine how crisp these would sound using the digital line-in.

        Quality on a budget

        By Peter Germain

        from Canada

After doing my homework I bought these speakers and was blown away by the quality of sound I got.I use the digital optical input and this is to me the ultimate quality for these speakers the 1/4 and 1/8 jacks don't quite compare. Don't get me wrong the other two sounds great but to me theres a certain crisp and thightness to the sound with digital optical. All in all a great addition to my home studio.
