I have read a lot of reviews on most equipment and find a lot of faults with what some of them say about the equipment.
    Remember this before you buy.
Decide what you are going to use the equipment for.
    Read the Manufacture's spec sheets.
When you find a piece of equipment that individually or combined with other components gives you what you are looking for. Then Buy it.
Do not expect a single speaker cabinet to give you everything you are looking for. IE Volume, dispersion, clarity. Today cabinets work best at 50 to 60 Percent output, at best, Regardless Who the Manufacture of the cabinets is. Do not expect the cabinets to produce Lager amount of DB's. For most of us in the industry use several cabinets to create the increased DB measurement. Use an EQ unit to give you the tonality you want and remember that speaker placement is very critical.
If everyone followed this advice we wouldn't need any reviews. These cabinets are great for the money and have great sound reproductions. If you handle all your equipment with CARE they should last a long time.

I was very excited about these speakers when I got my pair but they just didnt live up to what I thought they would be.
For a DJ doing a small to medium small venue they would be great they respond well to main EQ's with already mixed music but don't do the same for live sound.
    Live sound setup used.
    Presonus studiolive 16.4.2
    sm58 vocals
    sm57 or MD421 guitar cabs

I've tried many things to get vocals to sound good through them and they just sound to thin to much mid range base. I've tried EQ's changing setting on the speakers nothing seems to work, just to note using sm58's
I also have the same problem with miic guitar cabs just can't seem to find the right EQ if there is one.
After trying and trying to EQ so one of the to would sound good I just gave up it sounds good through headphones just doesnt go to the mains riight.

All in all great for DJ buut not good for a live band, If your looking for something with a straight across EQ look somewhere else.

    Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

I've owned a pair of these since they first came out a couple of years ago. I've used these as mains in a band situation, monitors, mains for DJ and karaoke gigs. I've driven these speakers to very loud levels and have never heard even a hint of clipping. It's ridiculous how loud these little guys are. Prior to buying these, I had a pair of big dual 15" Yorkville Elite 1000EX cabs and 1500 watt RMS power amps, and I can honestly say I'm not missing much (other than the back strain) with these EVs. Not only are they ridiculously loud and clean, but the sound is very high fidelity and easy on the ears. Personally, I prefer them to the sound of the QSC K12's, because the mids on these are smoother, and they just sound better to my ears. Also, for a 12" woofer, these things KICK! Sure, they don't have the ultra-deep chest-pounding bass you'll get with a sub, but I've had people slackjawed in disbelief that everything they were hearing was coming from these cabs. After a couple of years using the heck out of these, I can't say enough good about them. The only "con" I can think of is that the cabs are easy to ding up. You will want a pair of covers with these. Otherwise, the construction quality is excellent, with high quality controls and jacks. The combination XLR/TRS jacks are also very handy. I've listened to the newly introduced and lower priced EV ZLX-12P's, and while they sound very good, these ELX cabs sound better. There's a reason these are more expensive, and they're worth it, in my opinion.

      Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

Use this with The Avid Eleven Rack and just love it. This FRFR speaker really ROCKS!!

Bought it to replace the Liine 6 HD500/DT50 (4x12). which was ok, but big and bulky to keep hauling around. The 11R/ELX112P combo sounds very good with amp sims. IMHO

The people at Musicians Friend were very informative and easy to work with and I appreciate that.

      Thanks, Musicians Friend
      Will buy from you again.

Have used this speaker many times for performances with keyboards, accordion, mandolin, acoustic guitar and as a PA speaker. Sound is full, crisp and powerful. Excellent all the way around. Our band owns 4 of these and are very happy with them.

        Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

I bought one of these for use as a stage monitor and has been an absolute dissapointment. First off, they are heavy for their compact size and are painted wood, which chips very easily. After a few load ins and outs, they started to look shabby. The single handle is placed so that it is very akward - and painful - to carry them. The single "angle cut" to use them as floor monitors allows input jacks to hit the floor. This resulted in the jack getting stuck in the input, which has a xlr button release for some odd reason. The resulting mishap caused a short that blew the horn diaphram. Repairs from EV service for the problems encountered are about the third the price of the speaker. In the crowded world of powered speakers, EV seems to have rushed these to market and failed to put them through any real world uses. For the money these cost, there are plenty of other speakers that will outperform and outlast these dogs.

          Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

I used these as both mains and stage monitors for gigs in small clubs as well as outdoors. They perform well and are easy to transport. I can easily mount one on a tripod pole myself. Having both line and mic inputs is handy for a small gig where you don't need a mixing board. For larger gigs you probably want a sub or two, but these are more than adequate if you are mainly putting vocals through the PA.

The obvious competitor is the QSC K12/KW12. I have used the QSC as well and the EV ELX112P sounds nearly as good - but the significant price difference makes the EV a clear winner. We tried a KW12 and the ELX112P side-by-side as a keyboard amp/monitor and they sounded the same to me.

I would recommend covers as the paint seems to scratch easily, and as others said it would be nice to have an alternate handle for carrying options.

Super nice sounding speaker. These and the QSC's are the best out there but a clear price savings with the EV's. Put the subs underneath them and it is just outstanding. Recently did an outdoor Relay for Life event with them and my 9 piece horn band. Covered that outdoor event fine running all day. Great inside as well. High end is very, very smooth for this type of box and it very light. Only down side is that there is only one handle. Cleaner look when they are used as monitors, but a little harder to handle. Highly recommend.

A good speaker with one compromise

                By Robert Benda

                from Crookston, MN

                Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

No problems with this speaker, only one compromise: it projects wider than most speakers, doing a great job of filling a wider space, but not as deep as other speakers I've used. This is useful for rooms that are wider than they are deep.

The bass is good for a 12": as a wedding DJ I often have to turn it down a little; and the different connections are great options to have built in.

For the price, it's a great speaker if you don't mind a relatively short throw.

                Comments about Electro-Voice ELX112P Active 12" Loudspeaker:

Maybe I am new to powered speakers, but I was not happy with the quality of this unit. I did not feel the 1000 watt power in the speaker. I much prefer the sound of my sx-300's as mains and the s-200's as monitors with separate power amps.
The rca, 1/4 inch, xlr inputs are nice.
I own ev sx 300 and love the quality--the elx112p does not seem to have the same level in my opinion.
Decent price but I would pay more for higher quality.
