Owned a pair of these for almost 6 months from when they were first released. I have been very impressed for the price. Compared to JBL EON's, QSC's (higher price), Alto's, and Behringers in similar price range. I have owned previous EV models like the iForce monitor and the ZXA1's, and honestly for the price I was not impressed. I am far from an EV fanboy, but have owned and used a lot of their equipment. It is all treated me really well, but usually not the greatest value.

I will start with the cons...which are few:
-The enclosure shows wear and scratches almost immediately. The top handle is positioned so that the front lip scrapes when picked up. Highly recommend cases/covers if you are using this as a wedding or professional combo system to keep it looking clean...very attractive otherwise
-There was supposedly a defective batch when they were first produced which resulted in a rattling behind the front logo, check yours immediately for this, EV has since corrected but they may still be floating around.
-Gets harsh long before the "max spl" rating...but then again what speaker doesn't lately?
-Most of the presets are disappointing and unbalanced. HOWEVER: the "live"-"monitor" setting really puts this speaker up into the higher echelon of powered speakers above it's price point.
-Slightly "boxy" sound, due to lightweight enclosure flexing at very high volumes, otherwise at medium volumes it sounds very clean and transparent
-2-band EQ for simply "bass" and "treble"...would have really liked a 3-band with a mid parametric! Maybe asking a lot...but come on how much more difficult could it have been to add into the programming?? :)

Pros:
-VALUE! WOW! The sound and features you get for the price. I am very impressed!
-Other than the scratches, the construction looks and feels rugged. Very impressive lightweight. Great handles with rubber grips(minus the top one scraping the lip mentioned earlier), these feels really solid. Very sturdy grill, you could stand on them confidently (even grill facing up)...recessed DSP knobs and screen would be undamaged as well as the grill. At the same time they are gorgeous and look twice as expensive as they are. Pole mount and thread are very well built, strip resistant threads with a screw cap that is easy to use with bare hands.
-"Live-Monitor" mode on DSP really lets these shine! A lot of the other mode settings are unbalanced and can get harsh. But this one is right on the money. Compared it with an using a reference mic and RTA to a QSC K12 on white noise and frequency sweeps, it really gave the QSC a run for the money. Almost identical. When you start to push the volume it loosens up and loses ground to the QSC, but otherwise for medium/low volume on paper it might as well be a K12.
-Easy to navigate and attractive light up blue-screen DSP with adjustable contrast for outdoors and sunlight viewing. EQing and variable crossover are user-friendly and a breeze to operate. So easy to set when using an attached sub! Measures all adjustments in dB. Input sensitivity is a very easy to set (usually a huge problem for powered speakers) due to display. Real time input sensitivity graphs on DSP are awesome. Really lets you know where your inputs are at so you can get a great signal/noise ratio for your volume.
-Shows clipping warnings large on the rear display after DSP has been idle. Very handy. Can also set front LED as a clip indicator clipping as however this leaves the front LED off until a clip. Clipping is a huge issue with self-powered units. Many units are sold short because the input gets set too hot, or the signal to noise ration is off because of the input too low and master too high. It seems EV has really hit the mark on this one through the use of DSP and front LED idicator. No need to second guess your gain structure...which leads to my next point:
-Master out works great, when the slave unit us set at unity the input signal is the exact same as coming in on the master. Anyone who has tried to chain together self powered monitors know that this saves a huge headache!
-Aux input is pretty handy for smaller shows if you don't want to juggle a mixer. Also shows levels on the DSP through channel-1, but...it is redundant if you have two of them as mains.

Summary:
Really well thought out speaker that has a huge value for small bands and acoustic acts. Great construction and a gorgeous enclosure/grill. "live-monitor" mode is balanced and even, most of the other presets are not very useful. Plenty of volume but does start to loosen up and get harsh before the "max-spl" rating. Looks like a K12 on paper for half the price! Got a false start with the defective batch but has since been remedied. Only one very minor design flaw is that the bottom lip scratches when picked up from top handle, could be remedied very easily with an rubber strip (similar to the feet) along the front bottom lip. This seems like a nitpick, but polypropylene scratches very easily especially against hard surfaces. Two band EQ is not very versatile, would have been blown away if they had made it a three-band with a mid-parametric! That would have greatly increased value of the DSP! But, the input sensitivities graphs, easy 1-knob use, and clever clipping indicators do make up for that. Very solid investment. Looking forward to how they hold up to long term use.

Got two of theses man what power and clearity. Now not sure how long they will last in a gig,but they sound fantasic and with EV customer service i'm sure with any issues they will be able to help me out. Still theses are light weight tons of power and love the tec installed in these babies. I'm a mobile dj and these are going to be my mains from now on. Oh btw theses have great bass responds so won't need a sub,but of course big events a sub would only help. Anyway love theses not sure if they are better then the ev live x line possible due to wood vs plastic, but still theses are great speakers for the price.

I purchased three of these to replace the monitors for our church worship team. The first time using them we didn't have the full band so I set one up for monitor duty and pole mounted the other two for mains. Not only was there a great improvement in monitor loudness and clarity, but I received many compliments that they sounded better than our regular main speakers (EV Force i25). We are now talking about ditching the mains and purchasing two more of these to replace them. In addition to the live music sounding clearer, they are also excellent for pre-recorded music and speech applications. Our pastor's lapel mic also had a more consistent output through these compared to the regular mains.
If you purchase these, I highly recommend also getting the fitted speaker covers. The plastic on these speakers tends to get marked up very easily. Also the covers have a pocket to store the power cord.

          Comments about Electro-Voice ZLX-12P 12" 2-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

I had originally purchased an Alto brand powered speaker to serve monitor duty in my current band. Right out of the box the Alto had problems and was cutting in & out on the highs, fan wouldn't work properly which could have been causing the former problem. So anyhow I contacted MF's customer service and as always they are quick to help out. I was a few days past the 45 day period but they still did and exchange for me. This is WHY I use MF, they are the best! I asked what they had for an equivalent replacement and among the offerings was the EV ZLX line. Cost wise it was another fiddy more than the Alto, but for one: Its frickin EV man! It doesn't get much better. Two: You are getting a 1000 watts class D power with a highly effective DSP processor! Three: You are getting all this for less than the price of any competitors class D amp of the same wattage! Its just an astounding deal.
So what do they sound like? Amazing fidelity!
I am so impressed with these speaker that I rushed out and bought 3 more to have a 2 sets. One set will now serve as our top cabs in the 3 way FOH and the other set will pull monitor duty. Eventually I will get one more set to use in line array for outside shows or venues. The only drawback would be the plastic cabs are easily scratched and don't resonate like a wood cab would, but for a top cab in a 3 way system its not an issue. With the EQ set flat and used independently without a sub, the speakers lack low end, but that is easily rectified with the built in 2 band eq. making these useful as a full range system. If that was the intended use I think I would opt for the 15" version. Its to early to assess the dependability of them but the fact that they carry that EV logo gives me piece of mind. If you are looking for a great set of speaker or monitors (that wont break the bank, QSC anyone?) then look no further EV has you covered with the ZLX line. And yes I have used QSC and sold them so what does that tell ya?

Bought these from Guitar center as I couldn't afford the k12s. They were a waste of time. Thank god they returned them, . I played one gig with them. For acoustic guitar and vocals they were nice, at low volumes the DJ set was ok. When I needed extra power for the DJ set the limiter cut in, they can't handle any bass at all. They also scratch so easily it's ridiculous. I'm used to gear that is durable (yamaha mostly) and these are so cheaply made that if you don't baby them they will end up dented and scratched within a week.

Two caveats: I've had these for a short time so I cannot comment on durability, and I'm rating them "for the price". I've played music for 35 years and carried untold quantities of back-breaking PA gear. I have used Meyers powered cabinets and they sound AWESOME. They will also break your back and your bank account. My girlfriend can carry one of these EVs in each hand and two will fit in the back seat of a small car with room to spare. We used them as FOH for an average-sized country club room this weekend with a 5-piece band and they rocked (no subs). I used one the next night as a monitor for keyboard and vocals and I was completely satisfied. I'm sure you can buy better speakers if money is no object, but if you're like me and you actually have to live on a budget I doubt you could do better for the price. I am very happy with these speakers so far.

            Comments about Electro-Voice ZLX-12P 12" 2-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

I picked up 1 of these specifically for use as a floor monitor while also picking up a pair of cheap Harbingers on a SDOTD just for comparison. The EV is a far better sounding speaker with various internal EQ curves depending on your usage. (Speech-Club-Live-Music). However, there are a few important issues lacking on it that make the Harbinger, arguably, a better overall option. First, even with various internal EQ options and level controls, the EV is more prone to feedback than the Harbinger. (I've found the "Speech" setting work best for me). Second, due to the exterior design of the speaker, it can only be oriented on the floor one way, and that's with the tweeter facing to the left, so if you wanted to put a pair of these on the floor you wouldn't be able to orient them opposite one another. (Harbinger you can orient any way you want). Third, it scuffs and nicks very easily, so the cover is a must own. Overall, these may be better suited as PA speakers than floor wedges, but for the price + protecting your investment there are better options out there.

                Comments about Electro-Voice ZLX-12P 12" 2-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

After trying just about every amp and monitor out there I decided on the EV 112. Best bang for the buck. It has a very clean sound and can handle keyboards really good. Its compact and has plenty of low end. I have come to the conclusion that no one makes a great keyboard amp anymore. There is a bit of noise when you go full up on the volume..but its gone at about 3/4 volume.
