    High-performance compact loudspeaker.

The powerful Electro-Voice ZX1 is housed in a lightweight, durable, high-tech enclosure. The ZX1's enclosure geometry has been engineered to provide maximum rigidity and acoustic performance. The velocity-compensated port design overcomes the limitation of many small loudspeakers and enables exceptional low-frequency response without vent noise. The ZX1's long excursion, high-output, 8" woofer with weather-treated cone delivers smooth, low-frequency performance with exceptional reliability.

A sophisticated crossover network integrates the ZX1 with the EV DH2005—a 1", exit-true compression driver with extended frequency response and high-output capability. Full-bandwidth overload protection is provided for reliable, long-term operation without audible effect.

    Portable, Easy, with Clear Sound

    By DenB

    Comments about Electro-Voice ZX1-90 8" 200W Passive PA Speaker:

I have owned these for 6 mos and they are an acoustic players dream. I run a passive pair with a Mackie mixer. I also have an active ZXA1 that I use for various things. They are loud for their size and will throw a clean acoustic/vocal sound around a small/med venue just fine. I got them because of the size/weight/wattage combination. Both speakers fit in a rolling gator bag with my mixer on top. Literally a one trip set up. I highly recommend for coffeehouse, small bars, home, and restaurant settings.

Amazing sound from a tiny speaker

    By rywilly

    Comments about Electro-Voice ZX1-90 8" 200W Passive PA Speaker:

I searched high and low for a speaker that would be as small and light as possible yet still be able to handle lots of power. I know that is a lot to ask for, but I have found the ZX-1 to be exactly what I was looking for.Obviously, the 8-inch woofer will not be able to put out a massive amount of bass, but the tweeters are amazingly powerful and clear. There are no annoying mid-range frequency spikes that some other brands of speakers have, which means they sound good even when you don't have an EQ. When using them as floor monitors (without an EQ) the vocals have high definition and acoustic guitars sound nice. When using as mains with subs, they make great mid/high drivers. For a very small venue such as a coffee shop, they work fine without subs, but you will probably want to use an EQ to boost low/low-mid frequencies and remember to turn low-cut on.The speakers also look nice, are extremely portable, and are very easy to lift onto stands.

    EV small winner

    By shcoop

    Comments about Electro-Voice ZX1-90 8" 200W Passive PA Speaker:

I have owned a pair of these for over a year now. They apealed to me because the small size and weight of this cab made them easy to move to a gig, and they are EV quality. Also the shape of the cab made it easy to use as mains for a small gig or floor monitors for a biger gig (I also have a pair of EV SX100). Overall sound is excellent with note that bass from 8" woofer is limited by physics (if you really need more bass use with a subwoofer).Minor complants: the handle is poorly shaped, not really a handle as much as a groove in the back. The cab material is not as durable as my old SX100's, it's harder material more prone to cracking and chiping not as flexable. Don't drop these you can damage the cabs. User rotatable horn driver is easy to change from mon to main dispertion great feature. Overall the sound quality is excellent but they are a bit pricy at $600. for a pair of speakers this small. If you need a pair of PA speakers your girl singer can carry in to the gig get these.

    Very Nice!

    By Tony Bowers

    Comments about Electro-Voice ZX1-90 8" 200W Passive PA Speaker:

I wanted a smaller speaker that still sounded really good. When it arrived i compared my old T-52s, an sx300 and the zx1. At all volumes the sx300 was my favorite. To my surprise though I thought the zx1 and the T-52 were equal at low volume. The Zx1's are perfect for a restaurant or patio gig. They are darker than the sx300 and take more power to produce an equal amount of volume. The Zx1's also get honky when cranked. But come on, it is an 8" speaker in there. When properly eq'd the Zx1 was tolerable at medium volume. I am a very picky full time acoustic guitarist. I may send them back but I want to try them on a gig first. If you can afford it treat yourself to some sx300's. The zx1's are not bad. Very impressive for an 8" speaker. Trouble is anything sounds good at low volume. The debate continues.

    ZX90s rock

    By scottenj

    Comments about Electro-Voice ZX1-90 8" 200W Passive PA Speaker:

I own 4 of these and use them above SB122 subs with the special EV poles. For annoucements and background music to up to 150 people a pair of these on stand is great. For bigger venues I use 4 of these with two per channels and 4 SB122s and I can handle 400 or 500 people. The sound is very good, I have had many professional muscians blown away by how good these sound, they come up to me all teh time raving about them. I use a drive rack PA and a Crown XTI200 for the Zx1s and a Crown XTI4000 for the Sb 122s so I can pump out nearly 6,000 watts into 8 speakers and they will take it all. I love being able to pick a speaker up in each hand and easily walk with them.
