Portable audio interface with great I/O and quality Guitar Amp and Cubase LE 4 software.

ESI's UGM96 USB Audio Adapter offers you an ultra-mobile, guitar-and-microphone-to-USB audio interface that allows you to connect 2 guitars (via the Hi-Z instrument inputs) or 1 guitar and 1 microphone simultaneously to your PC or Mac.

The backside offers a stereo output that you can use for monitoring with headphones. This makes the ESI UGM96 adapter the perfect companion for guitar recording applications on the road or in your studio. You can use the UGM96 audio adapter to jam with a guitar and microphone, process the signal with your PC or Mac notebook or desktop in realtime and listen to the mix directly via headphones. No special adapters or extra power supplies are needed. Simply plug the UGM96 adapter between your guitar, headphones, the microphone and your computer, and you're ready to lay down some tracks.

ESI bundles the UGM96 USB guitar and mic adapter with Cubase LE 4, the powerful multichannel recording software from Steinberg. ESI also includes the Virtual Guitar Amp plug-in from Gallo Engineering that can be used within Cubase LE 4 on both Mac and PC and even standalone (Windows only) via the UGM96 adapter's control panel software. On the Mac, Virtual Guitar Amp also works nicely in other applications such as Garage Band.

Not dependable sound quality on output

    By Ryan Summers

    from Orlando

Comments about ESI UGM96 Guitar and Mic USB Audio Adapter:

96kHz is cool. Class compliant is cool. Feature-packed little box is cool. BUT headphone/monitor outputs are very inaccurate. The D/A converter in this is not good. It reminded me of pluggin headphones into an M-Audio Transit. It's unusually bright with missing low end in your mixes. It's neat, but not a dependable listening device.

    Noisy and unreliable

    By Matt-5mRkY

    from Charlotte, NC

Comments about ESI UGM96 Guitar and Mic USB Audio Adapter:

Received this as a gift to use with my Macbook. Have spent many hours tinkering with various settings in both GarageBand and Mac system preferences to no avail. Eventually I tried running it through my Presonus preamp - it works OK for a while but then reverts to static and noise. The only way to clear it is to restart Garageband. Using a relatively new Macbook w/ 4GB RAM.

Software Patches Needed for PC and Mac

    By daltonblue

    from Utah

Comments about ESI UGM96 Guitar and Mic USB Audio Adapter:

Cubase LE4, must register software to one computer only in order to use hardware, (not a logical requirement, since I was purchasing hardware that came with software and not the other way around). Other bundled software needs patches. On my PC, the agreement to license on some software opens in German or other language but not English; for the PC. On the iMac the agreement opens in coded form and there is no link to click to accept it. Not loading correctly. May return item within thirty days after waiting well over thirty days for it to be shipped. Don't know yet if hardware will work since there are software issues. Disappointment. Website for patches or updates not listed with software. Must have internet connection to register software. If hardware not working based on software, over all rating not high. No website listed in package for tech support or to download patches.

    A soundcard for guitar players

    By handson

    from Oakland, California

Comments about ESI UGM96 Guitar and Mic USB Audio Adapter:

I bought a laptop and needed a soundcard. I'm a guitar player. This soundcard seemed to be exactly what I needed. I was a little reluctant because I did not know esi. But I decided to give it a try for $100.-. Setting up was a breeze. My favorite application is Amplitube Fender. I literately don't hear any latency. Band in a Box sounds good. Realband works without hickups, and that is quite an achievement. The Studio Devil amp that comes with it is nice. A tech 21 type of emulation. The guitar sound you get from it is british (XTC came to mind). If you are a guitar player and you need a sound card consider this one. (Oh yeah, I'm running vista 32 bit)
