Since 1985, Focusrite has been a leading manufacturer in the professional audio field. Focusrite mic pres have played a key part in the recording of hundreds of hit records and they’re a top choice of leading artists, recording studios and engineers around the world. This experience has been used to great effect when designing the input section of iTrack Solo, which features a clean, low-noise, low-distortion preamp. iTrack Solo also provides phantom power for professional condenser microphones.
With a guitar input alongside the microphone input, you are free to record both vocals and your instrument simultaneously to separate tracks in your software*. You could even use both a microphone on your guitar and the guitar input at the same time to get a different sound.
Unique halo signal indicators, also found on Scarlett 2i2, let you know that you’ve got a good volume for recording. Red means that your signal is clipping, and that you should reduce the gain. The halo will momentarily turn amber as the signal returns to a healthy level, at which point the halo will turn green again.
A large monitor dial provides a tactile control for the volume of your speakers and headphones, whilst a high quality headphone amp provides a clean yet loud signal to headphones connected to the front panel socket. The direct monitor switch routes audio directly from the inputs to both the headphone and speaker outputs. This allows you to hear the incoming signal with no latency, which can be distracting and affect your performance.
On the rear panel you will find phono outputs allowing you to connect iTrack Solo to a pair of powered speakers, or to your home Hi-Fi system. The speaker volume can then be controlled using the large dial on the front of iTrack Solo meaning everything you need is within reach.
iTrack Solo will also work with Mac and PC allowing you to record with your desktop or laptop. There is an included version of Ableton Live Lite and Focusrite’s Scarlett Plug-In Suite, which provides essential effects for recording – Reverb, Compression, Gate and EQ.
*Please note that at current, GarageBand for iOS will record two simultaneous inputs to a single stereo track, which cannot be separated using iPad. The two separate signals can be separated by transferring your session to a Mac. Other apps are available which allow recording to two separate tracks simultaneously.

This is my first home recording unit, so I had no Idea What to expect. I was genuinely surprised at how easy it was to set up and immediately start using. I love the sound, and I have to say that if you're just starting into home recording like me, this is a perfect unit to get you going. I highly recommend it for its ease of setup, ease of use, and great sound. This was an easy five star rating to give, actually five stars plus in my book.

I've only had the iTrack Solo a few days but have already been able to lay down a couple recordings. It is exceptionally simple to use with apps like garage band and sound quality is top notch. I love the gain indicator setup. It's fast and simple. It will work with the new iPad/iPhone5 style plug if you have an adapter.
Overall the design is good, it's easy to use, and sound quality is excellent. The important things are all here, so if you are in the market for a versatile, multi-platform, portable recording device, I would buy this one in an instant.
Laptop/Computer use is EASY and the USB connection is a perfect setup.
My ONLY negative is the proprietary cable on the back of this thing for iPad/iPhone use, but the cable is pretty rugged, so should last. I'll be buying an extension to keep any added stress of twisting/pulling off of it and since it is impossible to move your iPad around or have it at an angle with the short cable.
Improvements: Having your iPad laying flat isn't completely ideal. If Focusrite were to redesign this, my only improvements would be a groove in the top to have my iPad sit in at an angle, doubling as a stand, and a standard 30 pin cable plug on the side with a slightly longer cable to connect my device in this manner. If I break the cable at least then I could replace it immediately, until I could get a shielded manufaturer replacement. Garage Band doesn't have a nice vertical layout or I'd just recommend a standard dock on the top.

Very good pre-amp system with high sound quality. I have used it only with garageband on mac so far and lag is non existent. So much so I can connect my guitar to the pre-amp and from there to garageband and play with no lag.
