    Great Value for the Money

    By Just Jimmy

    from Vidalia, GA

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

Focusrite pretty much got it right with this unit. The controls are very simple and straightforward, and the transparency of the sound is very nice. I use this in conjunction with an Equitek E100 studio mic (my personal favorite in home recording), and it controls the high SPL very well. The compressor is very simple and only includes controls that are necessary in a home studio environment, and the "Squash" feature is very useful in dynamic situations. Overall, I highly recommend this channel strip to anyone who is looking for a solid and cost effective addition to their home studio.

    British Delight!

    By e.scarab

    from Lexington, Ky

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

This unit is about the best one can do for the price. It is extremely versatile and veeeery clean. The fact it adds very little coloration (unless it is wanted) makes it extremely versatile. If you want more color, simply set the threshold at its highest setting so the compressor doesn't actually kick in, turn up the make up gain, and then dial in your pre gain. You might be surprised at the results. Many people rave about the Golden Age pre and the Joe Meek 3Q is also very good. However, they are only good if that particular sound is what you are going for. This channel strip gives you countless more options. And let's face it, with all the quality saturation and tube simulation plug ins out there today, if you want tube "warmth", simply dial in your favorite plug in! I am still confused why some reviewers at some sites complain about the compressor. Frankly, I find it not only very functional and usable, it is as simple to set up as it gets. You cannot go wrong with this unit!

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

Short and sweet, fantastic for the price! can you touch anything for under $500? Probably not, although ART has some great stuff in the low end price range, but if you're after Focusrite sound and stability, buy this NOW! I know I know, I sound like I work for Focusrite, I assure you I don't!

    Not right for my voice

    By Hesgotpipeskid

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

I purchased this pre after I got my bluebird and it just didn't work for me. I'll be honest it was very transparent and good with loud vocal non-coloration but its NOT warm at all its very transparent but very harsh almost metallic, not smooth. I've heard that if you're going tube mic get a solid state pre and if you're going Solid State mic go tube pre in this case I would agree. I also tried the BlueTubeDP and for my taste not warm but you can make some killer RATM vocals with the tube distortion.

The sound of Green for very little green!

    By David-I1qj0

    from Kansas City, MO

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

This pre instantly reminded me of the Focusrite "Green" preamps that I had used in past studios. Excellent, clean sound with very usable features. I don't find myself using the mid-scoop eq very often, but it's handy when needing to remove an offending tone. HPF and compressor are VERY useful, and the "squash" mode of the compressor is very interesting when using the unit as a direct box for bass. Bottom line... same great sound as higher-end Focusrite preamps for a fraction of the price. Great unit.

    Great Pre

    By RUFiO125

    from Wilmington, DE

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

This thing is nice. I have only had it for about a week, but I am very pleased. Haven't really used the mid-scoop EQ yet. The High-pass filter is great and the compressor is very easy to use for someone with little experience with compression. My only complaint with the compressor is that I wish that there were a ratio knob, but oh well. The no-latency monitoring is NICE, just what I needed. The selectable display meter thing is a nice little touch. Makes vocals and acoustic guitar sound great with my AKG condenser, but this thing stands out for bass. Really great for adding some punch and overall gain to your bass tracks. One more thing-- my bass uses single coil pick-ups (Epi Thunderbird IV) and it generates quite a hum through this strip when I engage the "Inst." button, but minimal noise when it is simply a line in... Don't know if its the bass or the channel strip. Otherwise, I am in love with this thing, I recommend it. Can't wait to record with it this weekend!

    Great Unit!

    By Totem415

    from San Francisco

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

Awesome pre-amp. We were using 2 Joe Meek pre-amps in the studio that didn't have enough gain, that had obnoxious pumping compressors, and overall put out a pretty frumpy sound. With this Focusrite unit, the difference is night and day. I LOVE the way this unit is set up. If you read the simple instructions and follow them, getting a good clean, well-articulated signal is easy . . . with plenty of fudge room. The compressor on this thing is excellent, transparent, and very musical. It's also very simple to operate. It's designed so you can't get yourself in trouble with the settings. It makes me wonder what an Avalon or some other real fancy mic pre sounds like. Some day . . .In the mean time, I highly recommend this unit. For the price, you can't go wrong. Buy it already!

Focusrite quality at a very low price point!

    By Homestudioguy-yX4z0

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

I have had this TMP for less than one week and have only run my RODE NT-2 large diaphragm condenser through it thus far. Many nice and different sounds variations available. Very Clean! Very Easy to use. Am currently running my Lexicon Dual Channel Multi-effects Processor through the (Stereo) Latency Free Monitoring section. Provides singer options of effects while sending dry signal to recorder? Compressor is excellent and easy to use. The Variable Mid-Scoop EQ is nice addition and makes very discernable changes. Looking forward to running my electric guitar and 5 string bass guitar through it as well as other mics and sound situations.

    Very nice channel strip

    By Homestudioguy-yX4z0

Comments about Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip:

I'm just a home studio guy with an ART Tube MP Studio, an ART MPA Gold and an ART Pro VLA running into my Yamaha AW16G. I recently purchased this Focusrite Trakmaster Pro primarily because it is a Focusrite and is within my current budget. I would love to own the Focusrite VoiceMaster Pro but this will certainly do for now. It has a great sound and allows me to run program signal through my Lexicon Processor back in to the Trakmaster via it's latency free monitoring section. The mid-scoop eq provides me with enough parameter to tame the Studio Projects C3 when necessary, assist the RODE NT2 a little , and smooth out even more the incredibly smooth sE 2200A. I really like having the XLR on the front and the pre amp is incredibly clean. The pushbutton multiple metering modes is also very nice. I am glad MF is selling these. (Now if they'd only pick up the sE Electronics microphones.........)
