OVERVIEW

Awesome speakers, awesome price.

Enjoy the beauty of clear, accurate monitoring with the Fostex PM-1 Powered Monitors. Active monitors with 120W of biamped power (75W for the LF driver, 45W for the tweeter), a bass response that is full and dynamic, and a high end with air to there, your mixes will shine (and your budget will smile)!

Low-Frequency Driver

The 6-1/2" LF driver delivers tight response and pure music reproduction by employing the latest technology in cone material. A mixture of cut and milled fibers is made from aromatic polyamide and impregnated with resins to simultaneously achieve high rigidity and optimum damping. An olefin film is thermally bonded to its surface to control frequency response and enhance long-term reliability.

High-Frequency Driver

The 1" soft-dome tweeter uses Fostex's UFLC technology (polyurethane film laminated cloth) to achieve lightweight and high stability performance.

Deep bass response for a speaker of this size and value. Well balanced, and fairly accurate. It does tend to imbelish anything under about 60Hz, which will make you think you're putting out more bass than you really are. They sound good though, with the only noticable problem being a slight crackling noise at high volumes, but that can likely be cured easily by rolling back the gain on whatever is giving it input. Overall, they're nice for a home studio, a beginner, or even as reference monitors for something like SoundForge, Sonar or Acid. I wouldn't recommend them for anything nicer than Digi001 though, because they won't be nearly the same quality as your equipment.

I ordered my first set of these a couple months ago and the first set I got one of the woofers was bad and had to be sent back, I got a second set and within 30 days the tweeters went bad. Contacting Fostex service is not easy either. Go with a better pair.

great value, good for mixing, great for listening

Great value, good for mixing, great for listening. I'm an amateur but mixes come out well on these and they're also great for just listening. I compared several at the music store and for this price, these are tops in my opinion.

Has Fostex lost thier minds?

By Kataz

from Hattiesburg, MS.

Fostex must have lost their minds to let such an awesome pair of quality studio monitors go for this little of price. The high end as well as the low end response on these babies are unbeatable. Mixes come out crisp and clean. I'm talking about the way you hear it coming of these babies in your studio is the same way its going to be heared in any stereo environment. Fostex really shows love on this deal. Good looking out!!!

Great bang for your buck

By Monstermakesman

from Woodhaven, MI

I was previously using a pair of Nady speakers with all my equipment feed through a Yamaha p.a. I've got to say these speakers sound great, and the free stands they threw in with these work out well. If they don't sound too great at first try playing with the options on your sound card. I'm using an M-audio Delta and there are a lot of options available, I played with them for about three hours before I was satisfied, but I do that with anything I plug in. In short, they rock, dont go getting a three piece speaker system for your recording studio, they just can't compare.

Nice product

These monitors take a heavy beating. They sound great, they stand up to high volumes, and run cool the entire time. Should here these pump out some near field activity during an intensive war game!! studio functionability is rated way up there.

Best bang for the buck!!

By Anonymous

Go to the store and audibly compare these PM-1's to anything near/around it's price range (heck, I even did a comparison to monitors costing much more), and you simply can't beat the overall sound quality of these near-fields...

Great Buy

By Anonymous

I have a home recording studio and was in the market to replace my old stereo speakers with a "real" set of studio monitors. I didn't want to spend more than $300. Normally, all you can get are the smaller 5" woofer monitors in this price range. But wow, these PM-1s are 6.5" and come with free stands at same price! Great price. Normally these are $349-$399 range, without stands. I like the sound I am getting. I can adjust sound levels and mix much easier now. It truly does allow you to mix so that CDs sound good on most any other device. Like butter.

Compare them to others...

By yo

I had the opportunity to work with the PM-1's during a session and WOW - it really doesn't make sense that these are priced as low as they are comparably to other nearfields (w/6 1/2" woofers) that cost much more. These were used in a Nuendo 24bit/192k recording environment and yielded extremely accurate/fairly flat/non-colored response (again, for the $$$ ya gotta hand it to Fostex). Once final mixes were sent out for mastering and back - the pre-glass masters sounded amazing through them. Compare 'em to similar spec'd monitors that cost more - trust me, you'll be surprised!!

Excellent monitors

By Bingo

from Avondale, AZ

I've got a Yamaha S80 and a drum machine for which I needed some studio speakers. These babies are sweet. Sound is crisp and full, with plenty of bass and distinct highs.I don't know if it was just a limited time deal, but Musician's Friend also threw in a pair of free monitor stands. Awesome deal, and the shipping was free on everything.
