A Good Buy

Comments about Fostex PMO.4n Powered Studio Monitor Pair:

If you are expecting professional high end monitors for your home studio keep shopping. I bought these because of the price and several good reviews of the quality. They were right on target with their reviews. These were purchased as an addition to my Tascam DP 24 because I was tired of having my head restricted by headphones. The sound quality that these produce meet my expectations and have enhanced the sound of my previously recorded material. For my home studio these are more than enough. The price was attractive and in comparison I feel I am getting my bang for my buck.
No frills when it comes to features. The level knobs are on the back of the monitor which is not the best location, but other than that there are two connection options which afford the user connection options. They both have active lights on the front that are neither too bright or too dim.
Over all the sound quality is what I would rate as in the middle. Not the best but by far not the worst. For my use in my home studio they perform just fine. They are attractive and the highs and lows are just fine for my needs.
For the price I paid I am satisfied all around and to date have not had any issues with these monitors.

NICE

Comments about Fostex PMO.4n Powered Studio Monitor Pair:

These speakers are the best you can get at this price range, and honestly I've heard some higher-end monitors in big-boy studios that didn't sound nearly as good as these. Fostex very rarely lets me down.
Pretty simple features, but how much do you need in this area? Everyone complains that the knobs are in the back, but having small kids and stupid friends, I'm actually glad they're out of reach... the levels are where I set them and they stay that way.
Sound quality is clean and untempered by the speakers themselves. That is to say, they're great for mixing... you hear your sound as it is, not polished or empowered by the speakers.
Got them cheap, and they have cut the time my mixes take to finish down dramatically (no more burning a cd and running out to the car or to some other stereo for a real-life reference!), so therefor, the value to me is superb.

Comments about Fostex PMO.4n Powered Studio Monitor Pair:

First off, I have not had these very long. Second, I have never owned a set of studio monitors prior. I have recorded in studios though, so I've heard the power of good ones, but it also depends on the room you are in.

I have been doing my bands mixes for awhile now with headphones. I was told that practice was taboo in the world of recording, so I decided to get some monitors. I wanted something reasonably cheap, and that would be easy to tear down and setup.

I didnt know exactly what to look for so I basically went of consumer reviews. For the most part they are right. They sound good! Like listening to music in a car with the upgraded sound package. I actually do that in my car when I mix and master songs for my band because my car had good speakers and a subwoofer. My headphones tended to cut the bass, so it sounded good with headphones....but then when your in your car, it's like a Three 6 Mafia concert. Now I can get it good from the get-go

They have pretty decent bass response as well for as small as they are. You can listen to rap and feel the bass. They are nice and clear. They also have some aesthetic value as well

To use them with an interface you will need 2x 1/4" balanced TRS cables, to use them with your computer's headphone jack, go to radio shack and get a rca to stereo 3.5mm.

Comments about Fostex PMO.4n Powered Studio Monitor Pair:

This is an excellent value. Flat frequency response and very clear sound. Surprising bass tone from a 4 inch speaker. I was initially going to buy one of the more expensive Rockit sets, but the Fostex outperformed.

Great Monitor for an even better price

Comments about Fostex PMO.4n Powered Studio Monitor Pair:

I bought a pair of these bad boys many moons ago and they are still going strong. Only a couple cons:
    1) like MOST monitors not a whole lot of low end, however you should be mixing with a sub anyways, so minor detail.
    2) Definitely could use an XLR input, a lot of subs only have XLR out to go to your mains, and impedance issues can plague you if you try to use an XLR-1/4" cable.
    3) The volume knob could use some stopping points to it so I could set each monitor exactly the same, also a dB level indicator along with the it.

OVERALL however excellent pair of monitors, I do not regret getting them over KRK's one little bit.

Comments about Fostex PMO.4n Powered Studio Monitor Pair:

I bought a pair of these of few months ago to fit my grad student budget and space constraints. The only problem i had with the way these things sound is that they made all my old mixes sound terrible! These monitors have plenty of power, clarity, and a nicely "flat" response. A couple of things could be better: 1- xlr inputs would be nice 2-easier to reach and read volume knobs. Other than these two minor things, i could not be happier.

Comments about Fostex PMO.4n Powered Studio Monitor Pair:

I've used these for over a month now and have had no problems. If something ever happens to them I won't hesitate to get another pair.
Since I'm a newbie at studio recording and equipment I'm going to rate this an 8. There may be units with better features out there but these are great for me. They are connected to my Tascam 2488neo and sound great. As far as features there are two types of jacks. RCA and 1/4" unbalanced. A volume switch. External power cord and on/off switch.
Again I like the quality but since this is my first set of studio monitors I don't have anything to compare too. However everything I've recorded sounds great to me. A distinct tonal difference from each channel and crystal clear.
I don't think you'll find better monitors for the money.

Comments about Fostex PMO.4n Powered Studio Monitor Pair:

When I bought these speakers it was because the sale price was so good. My budget and space wouldn't take anything larger. Had them for a year and oh wow, did I ever get a great deal. The sound is certainly accurate enough for my ears, and although they could use a little more bottom end, I can always add a sub at a later date. Can't get over the air they move. Don't think you'll easiy find a better value for the price. (unless you are really lucky or purchasing used.)

Just got 'em, hooked 'em up and was very happy and impressed! I ran a couple of RCA's to my Tascam DP-02 and boddaboom-boddabing! Very honest and transparent sound. What you put in is what you get! Volume/lows/highs..perfectly acceptable! Got the black one's on sale. Awesome deal! For the money, you can't go wrong here!
