Comments about Fxpansion BFD Eco Software Instrument:
Outstanding sounds! Easy to manipulate and control, very versitile. Comes with a decent array of drum kits (percussion is cheesy and lacking quite a bit). Got this at a very reduced price. I realize, of course, that it was reduced to lure me into buying the expansions....and I will.
Using this with Cakewalk Sonar because the drums that Cakewalk provides are really just midi samples from a Roland machine. I needed the sound and feel of a real drummer and BFD delivers.
So many ways to control the outcome, it really is a pleasure to work with.
COMPLAINTS: Really hard to read the interface at times, due to the fact it opens in a really small window with no way to resize it. It doesn't really interface with a DAW seemlessly, you have to work on setting up the track before you can begin recording. Very hard to control with midi keyboard as well as it does not recognize all of the drum options.
I highly recommend this software for anyone who needs a drummer.
Comments about Fxpansion BFD Eco Software Instrument:
I'm a newbie at using this type of software but I do have a lot of experience mixing bands live. That said I would like to state a few observations. 1) the install and basic set up is very simple. 2) being able to experiment with and create drum tracks with out opening up my DAW is a plus. 3) the combinations of the different drums, mics and set up techinques truly creates a extreamly live sounding track. 4) not being a drummer, the grooves section of the program is a huge benefit. 5) Although you can use your own DAW tracks to control each of the drums/percussion tracks , you still only end up with one "feeze-able" midi track. and while I can see some benefit to this I feel that eco's own dedicated mixer/editor does a better job. (IMHO). The down side is the manual. If you are a novice to this type of software as I am then it can be confusing as to what to expect as far as intergrating eco into your DAW as far as what everything should look like and how it should perform.I checked out as many of the youtube videos of current drum programs as I could and while the other brand names and models come with more kit pieces and options at a much heftier price I purchased eco while it was on sale at Musicians friend( down from it's reg price) and for what I got (less the learning curve aggrivation) was probably my best bang for the buck of 2011.I gave it a rating of 9 not because of the quality of the sound but for me to give it a 10 it would have to come with better instructions like a step by step set up scenerio. From loading the the program to the end result. Possibly a downloadable turtorial like some of the DAWs supply.
Comments about Fxpansion BFD Eco Software Instrument:
Just got it yesterday, but have to say this package is a great value! Except for choosing the mics, it's almost like having all the control of recording the real kits yourself, just made a lot easier. Sound quality is great - I'm controlling the software kits using a Roland TD-7 kit, and I'll just keep the volume off the TD-7 brain now. Eco sounds so much more real it's almost creepy (but it's not creepy). Very low latency using an ASIO driver-capable audio inteface. Very intuitive software for anyone with any recording experience. So far, I have no negatives with this product.
