Media - Sound, Lights, Video - are my profession. When I was asked to do sound for a small beach wedding several hours away, my problem was equipment that would fit in a fuel-efficient car.

When these speakers popped up on the SDOTD, my problem was solved.

The built-in MP3 player - which works with SD and USB inputs with both panel and remote controls - was the first to save me some space.

The adequate 250w RMS amp in each speaker saved more space. I have some JBL powered speakers, they sound great, but they're pretty heavy. The Gem Sound speakers weigh less than 25 pounds each, so I can tote one down to the ceremony on the beach (powered by an emergency car starter and a power inverter), then carry it back to its mate at the poolside reception and never break a sweat.

With 1/4", RCA and XLR inputs on 2 channels, a MP3 Player making a 3rd channel, and a Mix Out controllable with the included remote, you'd be hard pressed to find a more feature-filled system for this kind of money.

I set up and linked two speakers for a test and was cranking out tunes via USB less than 5-minutes from the box.

BOTTOM LINE: I do sound for a living, and these won't be my first choice in a critical situation, but for smaller or mobile applications, the Gem Sound PXB150USB 15" Powered Speakers can't be beat.

I got a good deal on these as the Stupid Deal of the Day. I'm planning to use one or both of them as monitors for live performances.

The sound appears to be OK. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad.

Physically they are larger than I expected -- but the fact that they say 15" should have clued me in. The cases are solid with lots of handles and very lightweight for powered speakers. (a little over 30 pounds each by my scale.) The make decent (but large) monitors with a wedge built into the cabinet to set them at a fixed angle, and they have a pole-mount socket.

Of course if you mount them on a pole, the five foot long power cord is going to be a problem, but it's a standard plug so you can buy a real power cord for it.

The controls on the back are labeled well enough that I could figure out where to plug in microphone and/or line inputs and where to get XLR output of the "mix". This is fortunate because there is no manual. No tech specs. Nothing! That's why I had to use my scale to weigh them!

I tried the GemSound web site. It does not even mention these speakers! In fact it's a pretty lame web site.

All in all it makes a pretty good stupid deal of the day. I'm glad I bought them, but there are better choices if you are paying street price.

Great value as SDOTD. They have so many options on how to connect to them. I have completed approx 8 hours of break in at increasing volume levels. The sound get better as the speakers are broken in. I have used them for monitors at one performance so far. They sounded better than the mains the band was using that night. I bought the 2 year warranty just in case. Pretty great so far. limited bass as with any plastic cabinet but usable. I like them alot.

So far so good. Middle of the road sound quality, commensurate with price point. Great output. The highs are crisp and clear. The lows are articulate but understated. You can expect that with the ABS plastic cabinets. I love all the connectivity. Comes with remote for MP3 player. Super lightweight and portable for outdoor events. I picked them up at a great price as a stupid deal and bought the 2 yr extended warranty to be safe.

The PXB150USB are amazingly light for all the power they put out. The high frequency reproduction is exceptional, which is rare in most 2-way PA speakers. The bass and treble controls come in VERY handy and the USB/MP3 player gives you amazing versatility. I've been able to use these for guitar and keyboards as well as vocals. The price is just plain amazing.

Ordered this speaker pair on the Stupid Deal of the Day sale. My band was planning on using these for the main output from the mixer. One of the speaker's woofers blew out almost immediately and that one had to be sent back. The other speaker began fuzzing as if something in the tweeter was loose and it got worse with volume. Will be returning them both for a refund.

Using These For A Karaoke Company

Comments about Gem Sound PXB150USB 15" Powered Speakers Pair with USB/SD Media Player/Wheels:

I own a Karaoke company that does multiple bars and restaurants on a weekly bases. We bought these speakers because they were extremely inexpensive and we needed a 3rd system that was very portable. Currently we use 12" Thump (Mackies) on one system and 15" Thump (Mackies) on another.

These speakers are lighter than the 12" Thumps that we use. The wheels are amazing and make it so easy to move around. The design overall is very attractive and they do not look like your typical "cheap" speakers.

The sound is well worth the money. The highs seem crisp and clear. It makes the vocals sound good. I actually think that the vocal sound better in a big room with these speakers over the Thump 12's or 15's that we have. I read all the reviews about the lack of bass on these speakers and it really concerned me. I like bass, and I think it helps fill a room and make everything sound better. The bass on these speakers IS weak but if tweaked correctly with your soundboard and the EQ on the back...They can sound good. You WILL NOT get the deep window shattering bass that you will get on more expensive 15's. It is much more flat and when you turn it up loud you can tell how flat it truly is. Still bang for the buck these are very good speakers for what I do. They fill a room that's about 1800 square feet with more than 75 people in it every week. They don't overheat and don't clip.

I would recommend these a very acceptable "Middle-Low Speaker". I rate the Thumps a 7.5-10. I would Rate these 6-10.

Comments about Gem Sound PXB150USB 15" Powered Speakers Pair with USB/SD Media Player/Wheels:

Three nice handles with wheels. Locking screw for pole mount. Just under 30 lbs each, which is lite for 15" powered speakers.

The pair comes with two remotes and two MANUALS, and the controls on the back are labeled well.

One speaker would be perfect for one mic, one guitar playing along with the built in MP3 player. The built-in mixing can balance the three sources. No 48vdc Phantom Power on the two XLR inputs. Some users are trying to use Phantom Powered mics. The speaker grilles get dented easily.

Easy to daisy chain XLR line out into next speaker XLR input. Three inputs XLR, RCA, 1/4 inch.

I didn't notice the lack of low end bass that many users report. The built-in equalizer has separate Treble and Bass control.

The MP3 works from SD or USB Flash drive stick. Nice. It would be nice to have Bluetooth linked option, but that can be added into the RCA jacks and powered by the USB port.

I have not yet used this with my whole system, but am impressed by the USB input to create a giant mp3 player. I have used the speaker as a stand alone sound source for my back yard. If the sound of my mp3's is any indication, it will do wonderfully the next time my small Catholic school has a play and I add these two speakers to the other speakers in my system.

I bought a set of these back in Feb. to start a DJ business on the side. I also bought a behringer EuroLive 18 active subwoofer to go with them. They are great with the subwoofer. I can rock a pretty good sized room about 400 people. I was going to buy another pair to open up the high sound when the sale went away. I just checked with MF today and noticed the pair of these are back on sale and bought them. These are great speakers if you have a subwoofer to go with them otherwise they do not have very good lows. They work for what I need them for and you should give them a try if your interested in decent speakers for a cheap price.
