Several years ago, before I had bought any DJ equipment, I considered this setup. Now that I've done a lot of research, bought my gear, and am now spinning at parties and scratching, I can offer you this bit of advice from the trenches: Gemsound = crap. I still can't believe that I even considered this pile of trash; I'm forever glad that I didn't fork over for it, otherwise my journey into DJing would have cost me a lot of unnecessary time and money. These are not turntables that you can "learn on" and then upgrade from. All you can "learn" on these is the value of saving up for some direct-drive decks. These Gemsound decks are toys that are of no use to anyone who wants to learn to DJ. Your mixes will slide apart no matter how well you actually perform, as these cheap belt drives don't hold a steady pitch. The mixer has a crossfader... and that's about all it has in common with a REAL mixer. Forget scratching; the crossfader will die in a few hours at most, minutes if you let a real scratch artist play with it. Bottom line: don't waste your money. I passed up cheap "instant DJ" kits like this and bought my equipment piece-by-piece. If you REALLY want to DJ, and you are looking at this setup because it's cheap, I recommend that you save up a little more for at least a pair of Numark TT200s or Stanton STR-80s and a Tascam XS-4 mixer. You can buy a Gemsound kit and play on it for a few frustrating hours before it craps out, or you can invest in quality equipment that you may use for years.

Low quality, but a low price too.

By DJ Lucid Loki

Ok, well I've had this box set for 2 years now. You definitely can't scratch with the tables because unless you use just the right amount of pressure on the records the needle jumps. The tables cannot hold a pitch for very long at all so if you are just starting out I would NOT recommend this set because you will only get discouraged and quit. On the plus side if you do stick with it, then switch to say some technics you'll notice a world of difference 10X over. The only good thing I can say about this set is so far nothing has gone bad on any of the items. Some people just don't know how to take care of their equipment, so it's not going to break after a week.

Good for a beginner

These tables are decent - there is, however, one huge flaw. The platter will bounch up and down if you touch it. This is huge if you plan on doing much scratching because it will cause the needle to bounch. They also aren't incredibly torquey which makes scratching even more difficult. It's possible though, and if you are just a beginner I highly recommend these for you. You will be frustrated at first, but after practice you will appreciate that you learned on less than perfect gear. That way, once you get that $$$ Technics Cadillac you've been looking at, it will be like heaven!

Best deal ever

Platter is a bit more loose than desired, but still your best bang for your buck for anything in this pricerange.

Awsome decks for scratching, well worth the $

By DjScope

I use my 2 decks mainly for scratching, and the get the job done. No errors have popped up with the decks or the mixer. Highly recommend to the beginning DJ.

Rather something to start with than nothing!!

By Danx90

For a starter, the material is rather convincing for beginners and hope the tool will prove to be explicit in what you want to do because it does not always meet the want in both input and output!

You get what you pay for.

I bought these not knowing what to expect. The turntables held up pretty well, but it's really difficult trying to scratch on them. I absolutely dread trying to scratch. You shouldn'try to scratch while doing an event, because all what will happen is the record will skip. There also isn't a lot of torque. The mixer is pretty solid but the headphones did not last at all. They were flimsy and were not built very well. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is serious about DJing. You really get what you pay for.

Crap

By oYC1n6dr0

I've had these for about 2 years now. The first year they were hardly used. Never used them to scratch with, just play records. Something inside started smoking and now my 45's play at about 145 and the 33's play around 12 RPM's. I played with the adjustments, had GemSound send me a new motor and nothing. So I said ok I'll just use the other table to listen to my records. Now that one is acting up. I think there is some flow in the pitch control. I do not recommend these tables at all. You can't even play records let alone scrach with them. Stanton tables are the best bang for you buck.

First system

This was my first mix system. I would say that it's pretty cool execpt for the turntables - they just bounce alot and it ain't easy to scratch on them, but they are cool!
