Play vinyl and CDs with the hands-on control of a full-size direct-drive platter.
Since the advent of the CD format in the DJ realm, performance DJs have dreamt of a solution that would combine the classic feel of a turntable with the ability to play both CDs and vinyl. With the release of the Gemini CDT-05, that dream has now become a reality.
The CDT-05's sturdy aluminum platter is driven by a CPU-controlled high-torque direct drive motor, suited for vinyl playback or CD manipulation. In both analog (vinyl) and digital (CD) modes, DJs are provided with a variable pitch control, with selectable ranges of 4, 8, 16, or 50 percent, along with pitch bend function as well as master tempo. Additionally, 3 DSP effects (Filter, Zoom, and Echo) with variable parameter and a forward/reverse switch can be accessed in either mode.
During CD playback, the CDT-05 affords 3 hot starts, frame accurate cue, and seamless loop, for ultimate flexibility in the digital domain. The motor can also be disengaged, for DJs that prefer CD decks with a passive, non-motor driven platter. Vinyl DJs will appreciate the removable straight tone arm system (sold separately) as well as the versatility of having an all-in-one unit to move forward with the digital revolution, while preserving the legacy of vinyl.

I bought this turntable knowing that I would be able to learn scratch techniques with actual vinyl, but I would also have my entire music library readily at my disposal for parties and such because of its ability to play cds and mp3s. A feature that makes it especially killer is using the cd and vinyl funtions at the same time. So I am able to create a beat on a cd and I can play an acapella track on vinyl at the same time or scratch on top of it with any record. It really is like having three turn tables at your hands, but with a traditional two table set-up. I also have a Denon s3000, and I like it a lot, but this table responded a little better with scratching on the vinyl simulation. The only thing that is a drawback is that it is slightly larger than a traditional turntable and so it is harder to find a case for it. Besides that, once you understand how to use the features and controls, it is an awesome piece of equipment.
I keep hearing Gemini is a horrible brand. This product (at least) has changed my mind totally - what a well built product. It is similar to the numark cdx in almost every way except that you can use real records too.I use numark virtual vinyl with this and it works so well - scratching is something I am now really into just because of this. Looking to buy a 2nd cuz the numark icdx ain't cutting it compared to this. Easily the best value
I've bought this back in 2006 for a gig as a last minute choice to purchasing Serato. Right now its holding up pretty well with the cd function and use of vinyl when needed. Only one issue i have so far is that on one of my turntables, the cd function is producing some type of electric feedback when i touch the platter to scratch cds. The sound makes the cd sound as if it is static from an old vinyl record. Wish i could find out what to do to alleviate that problem. Other than that I have no complaints at all about this hybrid.
I've had this hybrid since june of 2007 and it is a lot of fun. The versatility is great. You can play records and CD's at the same time, and beatmatch them both. Scratching is great on the CD section and the record. The response isn't as good as butter rugs but the sound is very accurate. I wail on this turntable a lot the time, and I've never had any problems with it breaking, not responding, etc. From what I've heard, this is the only safe product that Gemini makes so watch out, but trust me this CDT is reliable. Buy it buy it buy it.
