I gigged with this mic for the first time last night and was thoroughly impressed. I've been singing through 58s for many years and figured it was time to upgrade. Immediatly I noticed a huge difference in the fullness and presence of the sound. Through my in ear system, it sounded like I was in the studio. After singing a few ballads, I was sold. The epressivness that you can project with this baby will improve your performance--IF you're a singer. You gotta really mind your Ps and Ts or you'll have a nasty, ugly boom. That's gonna take a little getting used to. But the response of the mic makes it well worth it. If I didn't know and better, I'd think I was singing through a condenser. That is until I got 6 inches away from it.The cardoid pattern on this mic is very tight. You wanna be right on it (one of the reasons the "poppiness"). Backups at about 3 to 4 inches away. I can see how this mic would be awesome for snare drum. I'll have to try that some day.As for durability, I'll let you know in a year. The grill doesn't seem to be all that heavy gauge, so I'll be handing this mic with care.Anyways, I'll be ordering another for my very jealous guitarist. Maybe I'll get him the Pink Pearl. ;)

Comments about Heil Sound PR-20 Dynamic Handheld Studio Microphone:
It has a much flatter frequency response than an SM58, so subtle nuances like whisper-singing don't get lost. As I found out, this means good and bad nuances - great choice for a strong vocalist for a lot of feeling, not great for imprecise singers because little imperfections are much more noticeable. Guess I need to practice some more!

I used to have an Audix 2 until I had problems with the male conectors of the mic. I then purchased this Heil Mic and it has been one "Heil" of a microphone! I use it to rehearse and to play out and it delivers a great warm sound comperable if not better than the Audix 2! If there is a problem with this mic for me, it would be that it can be so sensitive that you could use a pop filter on certain P's and T's. Other than that, I'm happy with the product and will check out other Heil products as they are needed! Thanks Heil!!
Comments about Heil Sound PR-20 Dynamic Handheld Studio Microphone:
I was testing this mic and recorded vocals and acoustic guitar with it. (in a professional studio, mind you) This sounds awesome on vocals. It's got a bump up at 3kHz to cut through on stage. I eq-ed that out for the studio vocals and it was flat and smooth. It actually sounded pretty good on a mono recording of acoustic guitar. The transient response is a little better than most dynamics, but you aren't going to hear every little nuance as with a condenser. But I actually prefer that on vocals. The room I was in had a node at about 200Hz, but it didn't get picked up in the mic. So if you are doing home recordings and don't have an acoustically treated room and don't want to "hear" the room, this would also be ideal, because of the off axis rejection and such. I was using the preamp on the Focusrite Control 24 and had it actually cranked all the way, so your preamp better have some gain to it. Unless you are putting it on snare or electric guitar cabs, of course. Overall, I'm happy I got it and would like to try it in a live setting.
Comments about Heil Sound PR-20 Dynamic Handheld Studio Microphone:
For a near entry level price this mike is a real bargain, if I dare use that word with this level of quality. Three capsules that you can change in a snap, mike clip, and foam wind screen, all in a quality case. The sound of this mike is excellent. The articulation and vocal nuances come across quite nicely. If you sing in a pro or semi pro situation do not hesitate to buy this mike. If you're a real singer you can't go wrong.
Comments about Heil Sound PR-20 Dynamic Handheld Studio Microphone:
This mic has been imensely usefull in my flegling home studio. I prefer it over any regular old 57, 58, or what have you. The vocal clarity on it is amazing, It dosent sound like a vocal mic. It sounds like your voice only louder. Also sounds very good on a snare. I highly recommend getting one even if it's just to see what all this fuss is about.
Comments about Heil Sound PR-20 Dynamic Handheld Studio Microphone:
I have been a long time fan of Bob Heil products, back to when Heil Sound ruled the conncert arena's with the best PA gear. So when Bob Heil introduced a new line of microphones I had to purchase them. I bought a pair of PR-20's and I was totally blown away with their overall performance... hands down this is the best live vocal mic and at a price that no one can pass up... the performance and sound quality is outstanding. The band I am with where using Beta 58's, but no longer since we switched to the new Heil Pr-20's... Not only is the Pr-20 a great mic in the audio sense it is built like a tank, and it is made in the USA!
Comments about Heil Sound PR-20 Dynamic Handheld Studio Microphone:
Demo'd this mic at the NAMM show and I'm completely convinced that this is the best PA mic currently avialable. Go away audix, shure, and audio-technica - the Heil will blow you all away with it's rich natural tone and outstanding frequency response. I'm replacing all of my band's mics with this one.
Comments about Heil Sound PR-20 Dynamic Handheld Studio Microphone:
This mic and the PR30 give me exactly what I'm looking for in vocal mics. I really hope the days of SM57s and 58s as standard on-stage mics are few now that Bob Heil has unleashed these mics. :) The PR20 sounds far better than the 57/58s. I did A/B testing with the PR20 and my SM58, and the 58 couldn't hold a candle to this mic. The PR was smoother, fuller and richer sounding from the lowest chest voice to the highest head voice. Comparatively, the 58 sounds thin and when I hit it in my head voice, it turned harsh. The 58 had plosive and sibilance problems just not found in the PR20. The PR20 is my new on-stage mic, and I've also used it in the studio along with the PR30.
