Comments about Heil Sound PR 22 Noise-Rejection Microphone:
This microphone is clear. It will accurately reproduce what it is fed. As other reviewers have stated it blows the SM58 out of the water. I used my new Heil and my buddy used his 58 at our last gig. I got compliments all night long about how clear my vocals were. The audience could make our every nuance and word. You should practice with the mic before a gig to get used to the coverage pattern. It takes about 10 minutes or so but well worth the time. I would definately recomend this mic.
Comments about Heil Sound PR 22 Noise-Rejection Microphone:
I bought this mic to replace my SM58. After comparing the two head-to-head, my 58 now sounds to me like it has a sock around it. The Heil is crystal clear while keeping the bass tones that the 58 just doesn't have without getting muffled. I then compared it head-to-head with a Beta 58A, a Beta 87A, and a Sennheiser 935, and the Heil was clearer than all of those as well.
Comments about Heil Sound PR 22 Noise-Rejection Microphone:
Recently I decided to look into the large dynamic mics such as the Shure SM7b and had the good fortune to stumble across an old EV 676a overhead dynamic (broadcast). I love the EV and so I wanted to reproduce the results in a handheld model. I purchased an EV ND767a and a Heil PR-22. I was impressed with both mics, and felt the Heil had just a bit more openness, clarity, and range compared to the EV. It does remind me of condenser qualities one finds in the studio. I have been using an SM58 (preferred over the Beta 58) for 30 years. Using the Heil feels somewhat like driving a new car compared to the SM58. The 58 will never sound as good to me anymore. That being said, the EV is just slightly toned down compared to the Heil, which I prefer on my vocals. Both mics are outstanding and represent a great value. Take the plunge.
Comments about Heil Sound PR 22 Noise-Rejection Microphone:
I've owned this guy for about 3 months, and have used it on plenty of sources. It works great as a vocal mic, male or female, it shines on guitar amps, and will knock the smack out of the 57 on snare any day of the week.Make sure you and your vocalist are aware that this has a bit of a tighter pattern than a SM58 or B87C. Takes some getting used to. Not a good or bad point, just different. The optional windscreens are perhaps a bit much, but may come in handy if something happens to the one I use most often. I had a female vocal complain about the smell of the silver grill one night, so I swapped it for the black, she was good to go.The carry bag is key. Toss this thing in a road-trunk, your car, etc., and it's well protected.
